The Dandenong Ranges have attractions to suit every season, interest or mood. Whatever you enjoy from bushwalking to a bargain jaunt through the antique galleries or markets, the search for an enduring work of art, or a picnic or meal The Dandenong Ranges are for your participation. The Dandenongs have a special charm, no matter what season. The emergence of bulbs and flowering shrubs after a dormant winter, bring a never to be forgotten kaleidoscope to the hills. Spring washes the hills in colour. Everything is growing; rosellas swoop between neighbouring birches, oaks, maples, elms and cherries. The kookaburra laughs at the intruder and the parrots flock in the high branches of the gums. Lyrebirds, honeyeaters and bell birds sing unwritten parts in the symphony of sound in The Dandenongs. In summer the parks and gardens provide a welcome respite from the stifling urgency of the city. Relaxation is the theme... swimming in public pools, hiking along the forest, walking tracks, golfing, picnicking beside a small stream, or riding Puffing Billy... everyone'has his favourite, or special spot.

3 In autumn The Dandenongs come into their own. They are superb, in tonings that are beyond a poet's words or an artist's brush strokes. Many a roadside painter can be seen trying to match his artistry with Nature's. Liquidambers turn flaming red, gold and purple, and the golden rust of birches and maples silhouette magnificent sunsets across the distant city skyline. Autumn coolness makes crisp evening views of Melbourne a memorable fairyland of lights, cast into a distant perspective from a quiet hillside outlook. Some love The Dandenongs most in the winter, when the promise of a snowfall can lure them to the hills on a moment's notice. If they wait an hour or a day, they might miss the incomparable sight of gums and tree ferns covered in delicate white, the blanketed paddocks of 'Holly Hill', or the contrast of early blooms colorful above the snow. The Dandenongs support a diverse range of businesses and recreational activities, that capture the enthusiasm of both tourist and resident alike. The three main fields of local endeavour include many varied and excellent restaurants, nurseries, antique shops, hand crafts and art galleries. Restauranteurs now ensure that gastronomes in search of.good food, atmosphere and entertainment may "eat their way across The Dandenongs" without fear of exhausting their enthusiasm. The mountain nurseries present the gardener with an extensive range of cultured plant life. Azaleas, rhododendrons, camellias and an endless variety of trees and shrubs. The galleries of The Dandenongs offer an extensive collection of art and artifacts, ranging from the most modern paintings and sculpture, to the best examples of the traditional artists.
