Biroul operează în domeniul arhitecturii contemporane, de interior și al designului de produs. Biroul realizează o varietate de proiecte în Belgia, de la locuințe unifamiliale, cluburi de noapte și clădiri de birouri până la mobilier. GBA se străduiește să creeze idei care au ca rezultat un concept formal limpede care apare printr-o continuă înterogare și realizare. 22 / 23 Was established in 2005 in Ghent by architects Koen Baeyens and Basile Graux. The practice operates in the field of contemporary architecture, interior and product design. The office is realizing a variety of projects in Belgium ranging from single family dwellings, nightclubs, office buildings and design furniture. GBA strives to create ideas that result in one clear formal concept that emerges through continuous questioning and production.

5 Această casă de colț din secolul al 19-lea este situată la zona țărmului Muide cu o priveliște unică asupra vechilor docuri ale portului orașului Ghent din Belgia. Această amplasare unică în centrul orașului formează piatra de temelie a proiectului. Prin crearea de spații deschise cu decupaje amplasate strategic, această casă din secolul al 19-lea surprinde mai mult decât o bucățică din mediu. Proiectul a început prin rectificarea casei dărăpănate de toate excesele. Esența a fost conservată prin intermediul fațadei, a casei scărilor și a șarpantei, fiecare dintre ele servind ca un strat dur care să învăluie noile spații. Camerele și spațiile de locuit sunt concepute ca o stivă de volume, o sculptură albă introdusă în carcasa existentă. Priveliști Mai multe decupaje amplasate strategic oferă o varietate de vederi bine definite. Fiecare decupaj înrămează un strat diferit al mediului/ sitului, oferind posibilitatea de a se concentra pe fapte posibil interesante și pe detalii care se găsesc răspândite în jur. Și, probabil, aceste perspective dau ochilor un loc de odihnă. Fiecare nivel are un decupaj principal care este întărit de calitățile spațiului interior. De exemplu, intrarea de formă triunghiulară ce se deschide spre o alee mică creează o imagine a unui fragment al orașului. Concentrându-se pe ceea ce la prima vedere pare a fi o bucată de grădină, minții i se dă posibilitatea să să caute modele, detalii, materiale și anomalii. La primul etaj, în camera de zi, proporțiile spațiului se simt largi (5,5 m) și scunde (2,8 m). Aici, acest decupaj extrudat în fațada principală atrage vizitatorii să pășească în fereastră pentru a obține o imagine a malului apei. Pentru al doilea etaj, spațiul este mult mai introvertit. Înălțimea acoperișului ascuțit și șarpanta veche din lemn oferă acestei camere un sentiment vertical în timp ce fațada veche blochează părți din vederea către apă. Deoarece deschiderile sunt amplasate jos, ceea ce se vede este suprafața apei și bărcile ancorate la țărm. Odată ce ai ajuns pe terasă se obține însă o vedere panoramică a întregii zone. Dezvăluind totul dintr-o dată. Materiale In interiorul casei această abordare aduce contrast cu fiecare nivel. O interacțiune a elementelor originale cu noul îmbunătățește fiecare material. Contrastul este intensificat de culori și texturile materialului selectat. Poliuretan alb alături de cărămizi vechi, ipsos alături de scări din lemn şlefuite... Fiecare material îl influențează pe celălalt. Funcțiunile uzuale pentru pentru trai sunt inversate față de o casă convențională cu grădină. Acest lucru înseamnă că dormitoarele sunt situate la parter, camera de zi se găsește la primul etaj și bucătăria și sufrageria ocupă ultimul nivel, având o terasă închisă adiacentă. Primul motiv al acestei dispuneri este cel de intimitate. Tramvaiul este mijloc de transport public comun în Gent și se oprește frecvent în fața casei. Dormitoarele sunt mai puțin susceptibile de a fi utilizate în timpul zilei și sunt, prin urmare, mai bine situate la parter. This 19th century corner house is located at the Muide waterfront area with a unique view on the old city harbor docks of Ghent, Belgium. This unique location in the city center formed the corner stone of the project. By creating open spaces with strategically located cutouts this 19th century house captures more than a glimpse of the environment. The project started by stripping the dilapidated house of all excess. The essence was conserved by means of the façade, the stairwell and the roof truss, each of them serving as a rough coat to envelop the new spaces. The rooms and living spaces are conceived as a stack of volumes, a white sculpture inserted in the existing casing. Views Several strategically located cutouts offer a variety of well-defined views. Each cutout frames a different layer of the environment/location, giving the opportunity to focus on possibly interesting facts and details that are scattered around the site. And perhaps these vistas give the eyes a place to rest. Each level has one main cutout that is reinforced by the internal space qualities. For example the triangular shape entrance is opening towards the small alley creating a view on a fragment of the city. By focusing on what at first sight seems like a meaningless piece of garden the mind is given the opportunity the look for patterns, details, materials and anomalies. On the first floor (livingroom) the proportions of the space feels wide (5.5m) and low (2.8m). This extruded cutout in the front façade appeals to the visitors to step into the window to get a view on the waterfront. For the second floor the space is more introverted. The height of the pitched roof and old wooden truss gives this room a vertical feeling while the old façade is blocking parts of the views on the water. Because the vistas are low, the inhabitants get a view on the surface of the water and the parked boats. Once you get on the terrace you ll get a panoramic view of the aria. Revealing everything at once. Materials Inside the house this approach brings contrast to each level. Interplaying the original and new elements enhances each material. Contrast is enhanced by the colours and textures of the selected material. White polyurethane next to old bricks, plaster next to sanded wooden stairs Each material influences the other. The living functions are inverted with respect to a conventional terraced house. This means that the bedrooms are located on the ground floor, the lounge can be found on the first floor and the kitchen, dining room occupy the top floor with an adjacent enclosed patio. The first reason here is for an element of privacy. The tram is a common public transport in Ghent and frequently stops in front of the house. Bedrooms are less likely to be used during daytime and are therefore better situated on the ground level. On the second hand the vistas you ll get by moving the main functions upwards are much more interesting. The light is stronger and penetrates deeper into the house. The architects have aimed to create a symbiosis between contemporary residential living and the charm of a 19th century Belgian corner house.

The view of the green, wooded area is an important principle. A transparent volume gives sufficient privacy and protection. The client can also fully enjoy the backyard through the transparent volume. The expansion provides space for a living room, dining area and a terrace. The basement is defined by the slope of the terrain down to the courtyard and opens out to the garden. The basement level, together with the volume of the floor, extends and acts as a concrete base for the transparent volume on top. Two covered parking spaces and a storeroom are provided within the basement The construction is 5.80m deep and 14.35m wide. The roof retracts so that the cornice height is 5.90m across the surface.
9 PLAN DE SITUAȚIE SITE PLAN La cererea clientului a fost efectuat un studiu cu privire la modul în care o nouă construcție de înaltă calitate poate completa programul rezidențial existent. Vederea către zona verde, împădurită, este un principiu important. Un volum transparent oferă suficientă confidențialitate și protecție. Clientul se poate, de asemenea, bucura pe deplin de curte prin volumul transparent. Extinderea oferă spațiu pentru un living, o zonă de luat masa și o terasă. Subsolul este definit prin panta terenului care coboară către curte și se deschide spre grădină. Nivelul inferior, împreună cu volumul de la parter, se extinde și acționează ca o bază de beton pentru volumul transparent de deasupra. The house is built against the right neighbour. The left neighbour is a detached house. The house is 12.70m wide at the front and is tapered and parallel to the parcel toward the rear. The roof is retracted so that the cornice is at 5.79m. The challenging form of the plot and the orientation encourage us to look for a type of home that meets the sites conditions and also provides an architectural value. The requested program with limited living space was poured into a patio home with abundant light. By choosing this concept, the southern sun invades deep into the house. The living areas at the top are linked to a south facing terrace. The small terrace at the rear of the house composes the views to the wooded area. The entrance, sleeping area, bathroom and storeroom are on the ground floor. The client chooses a house with enough light and views, but with some privacy. The window openings are chosen in the privacy of the residents. Some windows are recessed so that filtered light enters through a few openings in the bricks. At the terrace on the top floor the front is covered with white slats. These are rotated so that the west sun may fall on the terrace overlooking the forest. The privacy at the front of the building creates introverted spaces on the floor. In terms of materialisation we ve chosen a light brown / beige brick with black aluminum joinery. The edge and the slats in the front are materialized in white aluminum.

16 Proprietatea este situată într-o zonă liniștită, împădurită. Casa este construită cuplată de casa din dreapta, în timp ce casa vecină din stânga este una independentă. Casa are 12,70 m lățime în față și este conică, fiind paralelă cu limitata din stânga a parcelei. Acoperișul este retras, astfel încât cornișa este la 5,79 metri. Forma provocatoare a lotului și orientarea ne-a încurajat să căutăm un tip de casă care să îndeplinească condițiile terenului și să ofere, de asemenea, o valoare arhitecturală. Programul solicitat cu spațiu de locuit limitat a fost turnat într-o casă cu atrium și lumină din abundență. Prin alegerea acestui concept, soarele din sud invadează adânc casa. Zonele de locuit din partea de sus sunt legate de o terasă spre sud. Terasa mică din partea din spate a casei dirijează vederea către zona împădurită. Intrarea, zona de dormit, baia și debaraua sunt amplasate la parter. Clientul a ales o casă cu suficientă lumină și vederi, dar și cu puțină intimitate. Deschiderile sunt alese pentru a proteja viața privată a celor care locuiesc aici. Unele ferestre sunt încastrate, astfel încât lumina filtrată intră prin câteva deschideri dintre cărămizi. La terasa de la ultimul etaj, fațada este acoperită cu lamele albe. Acestea se pot roti astfel că soarele dinspre vest poate cădea pe terasa cu vedere către pădure. Intimitatea de la partea din față a clădirii creează spații introvertite la parter. PARTER GROUND FLOOR În ceea ce privește materializarea am ales o cărămidă luminoasă maro/bej și o tâmplărie din aluminiu negru. Muchiile și lamelele din partea din față a casei sunt din aluminiu de culoare albă.
