4 4 5 ACCOMMODATION What you eed to kow whe bookig your studet accommodatio. CONTRACTS Accommodatio cotracts are kow as teacy agreemets or teacies ad are legally bidig for the full period oce siged. So uless there are exceptioal grouds for the teacy to be cacelled, you are liable for ret util the ed of the cotract or util a replacemet is foud. Teacies commece o Friday 13 September 2019 ad fiish weeks later o Friday 3 July Iductio week for ew studets starts o 16 September ad teachig begis o Moday 23 September It is importat to ote that all teacies cover the full academic year. If your course does ot match the stadard academic year e.g. ursig you ca usually exted the teacy period over the summer. Do t forget that you do t have to move out over the Christmas ad Easter breaks, the room is yours for the duratio of your cotract. You ca also stay o after your first year i all cases. MONEY MATTERS Ret is paid i three equal istalmets that coicide with your studet fudig paymets if you are a UK studet, who ca provide a guarator*, so it is importat that you apply for your studet fudig as soo as possible do t put this off! It is a good idea to try ad work out your budget at this stage ad choose your accommodatio accordig to what you ca afford. *Your guarator will most likely be a paret or guardia, ad they must agree to act i this capacity. If you prefer a quieter study eviromet, rooms are reserved for older studets at a umber of our city cetre locatios. If you do have ay particular requests, such as livig i a flat with older studets, please idicate this o your accommodatio request form. Every effort will be made to meet your eeds but this caot be guarateed i all cases. HEALTHCARE STUDENTS Nursig, midwifery ad paramedic studets have differet schedules due to placemet work, ofte gettig up whe other studets are goig to bed! For this reaso we strogly recommed healthcare studets choose Maryboe 3 ad share their flat with studets o similar courses. Rooms at Maryboe 3 will also be available if your course starts earlier tha the stadard academic caledar. DISABLED STUDENTS Accommodatio facilities for studets with disabilities are costatly improvig ad LJMU is committed to esure a high stadard of livig for all studets, whatever your eeds. BOOKING YOUR ACCOMMODATION 1MAKE YOUR CHOICE Read the iformatio here ad olie ljmu.ac.uk/accommodatio ad decide where you would like to live. 2 If SUBMIT YOUR REQUEST Oce LJMU is your Firm (first) choice, you ca submit your accommodatio request usig our simple olie form. The form will be available o our website from 1 February Bedrooms are allocated o a first come, first served basis ad you ca submit your request regardless of whether you hold a coditioal or ucoditioal offer. 3FINALISE YOUR BOOKING Withi 10 days of submittig your request you will be cotacted by your chose accommodatio provider by . You must follow their istructios ad make the iitial paymet requested i order to fialise the bookig of your room. you hold a coditioal offer from LJMU ad are usuccessful, ay paymet made for accommodatio will be refuded ad your teacy agreemet cacelled. 5 6 7 ACCOMMODATION for MOUNT PLEASANT STUDENTS The Mout Pleasat Campus is home to two Faculties: Liverpool Busiess School ad Arts, Professioal ad Social Studies. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION At LJMU most teachig takes place i Liverpool city cetre at either our Mout Pleasat Campus or City Campus. All of the accommodatio i this guide is located i the city cetre, so if your teachig is based i either of these campuses, you will have several optios withi walkig distace of the Uiversity. Some courses i the Faculty of Educatio, Health ad Commuity are taught at the IM Marsh Campus, located a few miles outside the city cetre i Aigburth. Further iformatio about livig optios ca be foud o page 9. Liverpool is a very compact city ad most LJMU studets ca walk to lectures. So please thik very carefully before brigig a car to Liverpool. As i most cities, parkig is expesive ad limited. If havig your car is importat to you, you should request accommodatio early to maximise your chaces of securig a space. For further iformatio o where specific courses are taught, please see the LJMU website. The followig accommodatio optios are ideal for studets udertakig courses i this Faculty. St Luke s View is oe of the ewest accommodatio optios available to LJMU studets, which opeed at the start of the 2017/18 academic year. It is well located for all courses i the Mout Pleasat Campus ad also close to the public trasport route to the IM Marsh Campus. The Later is the ewest optio of all as it opeed for the first time i September It is located o Lime Street, close to the mai railway statio ad shoppig areas. Cambridge Court is part of a studet village close to the Aldham Robarts Library ad the Joh Foster Buildig. All bedrooms iclude a private e-suite bathroom ad limited parkig is available at this site. Europa ad Albert Court are two good value accommodatio optios located i the lively Lodo Road area. Albert Court has a osite gym ad swimmig pool. Grad Cetral is the largest ad liveliest of all the accommodatio optios. The vast majority of bedrooms feature private e-suite bathrooms but a few bedrooms are available i flats with shared bathrooms at a lower cost. There is also a free gym. Ages Joes House ad St Adrew s Gardes are excellet choices for studets seekig good value accommodatio as they feature flats with shared bathrooms. Greville Street ad The Arch are the two relatively ew accommodatio optios available to LJMU studets i this campus ad are situated i the Chiatow area of the city. Horizo Heights ad Hardma House are two completely ew optios, both due to ope i August Horizo Heights is located directly i frot of Grad Cetral while Hardma House is located close to the Aldham Robarts Library ad the Joh Foster Buildig. 6 8 9 ACCOMMODATION for CITY CAMPUS STUDENTS The City Campus is home to three LJMU Faculties: Educatio, Health ad Commuity (health related courses) Sciece Egieerig ad Techology The followig accommodatio optios are ideal for studets udertakig courses i these Faculties. Maryboe is a large three phase complex ad is ideally located adjacet to the Avril Robarts Library ad the Tithebar Street buildig. Maryboe 1 features flats with shared bathrooms at very reasoable weekly rets. Maryboe 2 ad 3 are almost idetical ad fully e-suite, although Maryboe 3 is reserved for ew healthcare studets (see page 5). The Glassworks ad Byrom Poit are two ewer accommodatio sites located withi the City Campus ad are both fully e-suite. Vita Studet is also a relatively ew site ad cosists etirely of studios. Liberty Atlatic Poit is located opposite the Byrom Street teachig buildigs ad is oe of the largest sites offered to ew studets. It has a large umber of parkig spaces. Studets based i the City Campus ca also choose accommodatio based close to the Mout Pleasat Campus such as The Later, Grad Cetral, Europa or Albert Court. The locatio of our city cetre accommodatio ca be see o pages 12 ad 13. ACCOMMODATION for IM MARSH STUDENTS The IM Marsh Campus is located i Aigburth, about four miles from the city cetre ad is home to part of the Faculty of Educatio, Health ad Commuity. There is o accommodatio available o the campus itself. Studets who require accommodatio while studyig at IM Marsh ca choose ay of the city cetre optios ad travel to the campus for their lectures ad the social facilities. A few sites are particularly recommeded because of their proximity to public trasport pickup poits. Grad Cetral ad St Luke s View are two of the most popular sites with studets based at IM Marsh because of their proximity to public trasport ad lively atmosphere. The Arch ad Greville Street are also popular with studets based at IM Marsh because they are ewer sites ad both are located close to the mai bus route to the campus. St Adrew s Gardes also has a lot of IM Marsh studets but is far less expesive tha other sites listed here because all the flats feature shared bathrooms. Studets who choose to live i oe of the sites listed here ca request to share their flat with other IM Marsh studets if they wish. The Accommodatio Office will try to meet this request but it caot be guarateed. If you choose to live elsewhere it is ot possible to request to share with other IM Marsh studets, uless you pla to share with a fried who is also based at the campus. Travellig to IM Marsh from the city cetre is easy. Two trai lies have statios withi walkig distace of the campus ad it is also ear a major bus route. All ew studets who study at IM Marsh ad live i city-cetre studet accommodatio receive help towards their travel costs i their first year at LJMU. Liberty Gardes is located directly across the road from the Avril Robarts Library ad offers good value esuite rooms ad a umber of parkig spaces.
