The Warig status allows studets to receive fiacial aid for oe more semester ad gives them the opportuity to use fiacial aid while they work to improve their fiacial aid academic stadig. All Geeral Educatio Requiremets are offered o a regular basis. We offer 16 week term ad 8 week term, FLEX classes & special arraged classes for those with difficult schedule (visit with MSU Base office for more iformatio). Classes at the Miot Air Force Base are ope to the geeral public, with the exceptio of iteratioal studets, as well as military ad their depedets. The deadlie for civilias to register for courses at the Miot Air Force Base is the same as the MSU Add/Drop deadlie. Civilia ad military studets register for base classes through Campus Coectio. Natioal Academic Advisig Associatio (NACADA) The Natioal Academic Advisig Associatio (NACADA) is a associatio of professioal advisors, couselors, faculty, admiistrators, ad studets workig to ehace the educatioal developmet of studets. NACADA promotes ad supports quality academic advisig i istitutios of higher educatio to ehace the educatioal developmet of studets. NACADA provides a forum for discussio, debate, ad the exchage of ideas pertaiig to academic advisig through umerous activities ad publicatios. NACADA also serves as a advocate for effective academic advisig by providig a Cosultig ad Speaker Service, a Awards Program, ad fudig for Research related to academic advisig. The Natioal Academic Advisig Associatio evolved from the first Natioal Coferece o Academic Advisig i 1977 ad has over 11,000 members represetig all 50 Uited States, Puerto Rico, Caada, ad several other iteratioal coutries. Members represet higher educatio istitutios across the spectrum of Caregie classificatios ad iclude professioal advisors/couselors, faculty, admiistrators ad studets whose resposibilities iclude academic advisig. Record Keepig Tips How to Establish Good Documetatio Write coferece otes as soo as possible followig a studet appoitmet; memories fade quickly. If studet traffic makes it impossible to write complete otes immediately followig the coferece, make otes of saliet poits o a sticky ote for the studet folder or keep a ruig log of studet otes. Whe writig otes, remember that it is the studet s record too: He or she should have access at ay time to the writig i coferece otes (FERPA). 4 NACADA Cosultats Visit Campus The MSU Academic Advisig Task Force (ATTF), appoited i sprig 2014, was tasked with reviewig MSU s curret system of advisig ad makig recommedatios to improve advisig services. After studyig best practice models ad gatherig iformatio from studets, faculty, ad professioal advisig staff, the task force determied havig cosultats review our curret advisig program may provide MSU with valuable isight from perspectives outside the istitutio who are experts i the field of advisig. O February 2 ad 3, the ATTF was fortuate to have the opportuity to host two NACADA cosultats o campus for a advisig program review. The itet of their visit, arraged through the NACADA Cosultat ad Speaker Services, was to review MSU s curret academic advisig program ad to provide a fial report with recommedatios o how we ca further improve the services MSU provides. The cosultats both have a great deal of kowledge ad expertise i academic advisig from their professioal work experiece, educatioal backgroud, ivolvemet i NACADA leadership positios, ad through the work they have doe with the NACADA Cosultat ad Speaker Services. The cosultats were very busy while o campus ad had the chace to meet with may idividuals icludig admiistrators, faculty, staff ad studets. The task force would like to thak all who were ivolved i these meetigs, as the cosultats felt their visit provided them with a greater uderstadig of the advisig services provided at MSU. The cosultats will be providig MSU with a fial report highlightig their recommedatios i early March. The semiar was lauched i 2008 with great results. Kristi became Assistat Director for Graduate ad Udergraduate Programs i I 2012, Kristi worked with James Eckerty ad Laura Asbury, ew advisors to SPEA, o the Desig Your Ow Success program which allowed first-time probatio studets to utilize campus resources to improve their academic stadig. I 2013, this trio preseted Successful Itervetios for Studets o Probatio at IUPUI at the NACADA Aual Coferece i Salt Lake City, ad their program was selected for Exemplary Practice recogitio i the ew NACADA Pocket Guide, Advisig Studets o Academic Probatio. Kelly Reddick, Academic Advisor, East Carolia Uiversity Kelly Reddick works with studets who are i academic difficulty (icludig readmitted studets), studets who are explorig major optios, ad iteded ursig studets. Each sprig, Kelly teaches a academic skills ad developmet course for first-year studets who are o academic probatio. I additio, Kelly assists i the admiistratio ad moitorig of ECU s early academic alert system. Over the past year, she ad ECU s advisig team have focused o maximizig the use of a early academic alert system from a advisor s vatage poit to further reach studets who may be strugglig academically. Julie Preece, Cliical Professor, Brigham Youg Uiversity, Cythia Wog, Educatioal Psychologist ad Assistat Cliical Professor, Brigham Youg Uiversity Julie Preece is a cliical professor with a backgroud i couselig psychology. She bega her academic life i the Couselig ad Career Ceter at Brigham Youg Uiversity FEBRUARY

I 2008, she was asked to serve as the Iterim Director ad the Director for the Academic Support Office (ASO) at BYU, a positio she worked i util 2013 whe she retured to a cliical positio where she teachers ad coordiates uiversity courses ad works as a part-time academic advisor for the ASO. Cythia Wog is a educatioal psychologist ad assistat cliical professor i the ASO at Brigham Youg Uiversity. As a learig specialist, her primary role is to assist studets who struggle academically. I her work with studets, she cosiders herself to be oe part detective, oe part efficiecy expert, ad two parts geius. She also ejoys co-directig a peer coachig program, teachig learig strategies courses ad coductig research. The BYU Academic Support Office works with studets facig or returig with academic stadigs of probatio, suspesio, or dismissal. Julie, Cythia, ad ASO colleagues have researched the issues which lead to most studets academic demise, icludig metal health issues, ad what appears to make a differece to the success of studets who struggle academically. This research led to the creatio of a successful Peer Coachig Program ad the Optio Three Program, which was selected for Exemplary Practice recogitio i the ew NACADA Pocket Guide, Advisig Studets o Academic Probatio.
