2 SEOKYOONRECEIVESMCDOWELL COLUMNSSCHOLARPRIZE Seok Yoon receives prize. The 2017 Chowan University McDowell Columns Scholar Prize was presented to Seok Yoon, Associate Professor of Exercise Science, during the Seventh Celebration of Faculty Scholarship and Creative Achievements on Tuesday, November 14. The prize consisted of a cash award and a bookstyle clock, showcasing a photo of the historic McDowell Columns Building, and engraved with Yoon's name. Other 2017 prize finalists include: Timothy Hayes, Assistant Professor of English Mary Hellmann, Associate Professor of Music Edward Snyder, Assistant Professor of History Amy Wethington, Associate Professor of Biology Past prize recipients are: Gregory Taylor, Professor of History John Davis, Professor of English Ashley Doane, Associate Professor of Psychology Tom Brennan, Associate Professor of Printing Production Trey Gilliam, Associate Professor of Religion

The 2017 Brown Lady Academic Bowl began Friday, November 10, wit h t he Depart ment of Hist ory ending it s onegame losing st reak by defeat ing t he Depart ment of Music, which st umbled on a series of Shakespeare quest ions and never recovered. The vict ory gave Hist ory it s 20t h win in academic bowl compet it ion. Hist ory's vict ory was followed by a School of Business win over Academic Affairs. On Monday, November 13, t he Depart ment of Biology, a t eam t hat is capable of winning t he t ournament, if it just put it s Solomon/ Sampson debacle behind it, defeat ed St udent Affairs. Meanwhile, t he Depart ment of English st aged a comefrom behind win t o defeat t he Depart ment of Psychology, a t eam t hat has never won a game. Much like Friday's and Monday's games, Wednesday's games brought no surprises. The Depart ment of Communicat ion Art s, led by t he powerful duo of Kendall But ler and Zoe Gray, eliminat ed a hapless School of Educat ion t eam. Then t he Depart ment of Criminal Just ice fell t o t he Kyle Davisondominat ed Depart ment of Sport Science t eam. No, t hey are not all hist ory quest ions. Ending t he est at e t ax w ill not prot ect m illions of sm all businesses and t he Am erican farm er. When you have bragged about sex ually assault ing w om en, you shouldn't t w eet about ot hers w ho have sex ually assault ed w om en. Again, Russia did m eddle in last year's elect ion. Am erican leaders shouldn't " t rash" t he count ry w hile t raveling abroad. If you haven't been sex ually assault ed, you should t hink before you offer an opinion on t hose w ho have been.
