Anne: M y ear ly connection w ith China has led to my continued inter est and involvem ent w ith the Confucius nstitute. began my fir st tr ip to China in 2005 w ith the San Diego State Univer sity College of Ar ts and Letter s Educational and Cultur al Tour. The tr ip w as over -w helm ing w ith so m any histor ical places to visit and cultur al Journey to China Scholarship Gala. Although ever y city in China is special for its location, histor y, cultur e and food, Shanghai is still #1 for m e. The Shanghai M useum, visiting the Peal Tow er and str olling The Bund w er e m em or able m om ents. Suzhou w as an intr oduction to silk and its incr edible histor y and influence and im por tance in w or ld tr ade. One cannot for get Hangzhou and the beautiful West Lake and the boat tr ips. This tour w as r ecognized as the SDSU Delegation of San Diego U.S.A. and w as gr eeted at the air por t in Chongqing by the Reception Team : Chongqing Global Com m er ce Co., Ltd. 2 thr ough the Qutang Gor ge, Wu Gor ge, Lesser Thr ee Gor ges and view ed The Gr eat Dam Pr oject. The city of Wuhan featur ed the Yellow Cr ane Tow er. The Ter r a Cotta War r ior s in the city of Xian w as a m ajor highlight along w ith the W ild Goose Pagoda, Ancient Walls and a stage show of the Tang Dynasty. The final stop w as Beijing w ith its am azing sites: Tian'anm en Squar e, For bidden City, Tem ple of Heaven, The Gr eat Wall and the fam ous acr obatic show. This oppor tunity to tr avel w as under the leader ship of Dean Paul Wong of the CAL and Dr. Lilly Cheng, Dir ector of the Chinese Studies nstitute, continued w ith the follow ing tour s. actually becam e acquainted w ith Dean Paul Wong w hen attended the Gr oundbr eaking Cer em ony for the College of Ar ts and Letter s building on Septem ber 10, n 2007, joined the SDSU China Cultur al and Educational Tour. The them e of the tour w as?fr om the Easter n End of the Gr eat Wall to the Wester n End of the Gr eat Wall? (Silk Road). n 2010, par ticipated in the SDSU China Study Abr oad Pr ogr am. n 2015, joined the Pr incipals? Delegation fr om Confucius nstitute at San Diego State Univer sity or ganized by the Souther n Base of Confucius nstitute Headquar ter s/office of Confucius nstitute Affair s, Xiam en Univer sity. This w as my fir st visit the Souther n Base C Headquar ter s. t w as an infor m ative visit to the Confucius nstitute Headquar ter s and its affiliation w ith the Chinese M inistr y of Education in its m ission to pr om ote Chinese language and cultur e w or ld w ide. n 2016, w ent on the Education and Cultur al Tour on behalf of the M ichael Li fam ily to attend the 30th Shenm o nter national Pr incipal Sum m it. SDSU Shanghai Summer Program. May, 2010 becam e involved w ith C as a Fr iend of the Confucius nstitute as one of the eight individuals fr om the 2005 tour upon the r equest of Dr. Lilly Cheng. w as able to par ticipate in the Confucius nstitute Gr and Opening on M ar ch 26, 2009, volunteer ing in the Calligr aphy Cor ner dur ing the Reception. Ther e ar e sever al r easons w hy attend C events. Fir st, as an educator it is one w ay to better under stand the histor y and cultur e of China. Secondly, enjoy the inter action of m eeting new people and par ticipating in the cultur al activities. Anne: Although San Diego has had a long histor y of Chinese cultur e, it is im por tant for C to continue to be r ecognized by the gener al population as a r esour ce for the incr easing Asian population and pr ovide that know ledge and under standing.
