3 Wh en che designers at JMKA Architects took on che project, chis once classic mid -century home had been dressed as a colonia l - right down to che clapboard aluminum siding. Th e goal of chis renovation was to bring ic back to ics mid -century roots, with th e mod ern conveni ences th e hom eowners desired. Before the renova t ion, th e kit chen lacked style and und erwent t he mo st signifi cant transformation durin g th e overhaul of the hom e. The design team kn ew th ey want ed to evoke th e mid- century vibe chis kitchen lacked, while allowing it to flow with the rest of th e hom e.. Th e most obviou s change in chis kit chen came with th e color select ions. Mid- centur y desig n is about pastel color s, simp le flat panel door s, and app liances with round ed corn ers & metal pu lls. Wich th ese tr end s in mind, the JMKA design team sec out to craft the perfect kitchen for thi s I 9 50s home. Th e kitc hen was tr ansform ed from a contra ctor- sty le tra ditional design int o a sleek, midcentur y modern kitchen with all che bells and whiscles. Thi s on e-of-a-kind design featur es a floor-to -ceiling overhaul th at is bath ed in nat ura l light. Crisp co l ors, fun accen ts, and fun ct ional design create d th e,.perfect culinary sanctuar y and gat herin g place for chis hom e. Th e stunnin g oak floors feature 2 1 /4" quarter sawn red oak to blend with th e floorin g in th e rest of th e open layout. Th e cohesion wit h the o pen floo r plan from the dinin g co living to kitchen areas creat es the ideal flow for thi s mid -centur y design. In order to echo th e cathedral ceilmg found in che main living space, che desi gners raised th e ceiling in t he kitch en, creatin g an expansive, open space. The wind ows were replace d to enh ance che flow of natu ral light, yieldin g a bright, warm area. Cus tom overlay was create d for che cabin ets in order to provide a uni que design remini scent of che era. Th e upp er cabinets featur e Benjam in Moore whit e (PM-2 ), while th e lowers provide th e perfect balance wi ch Antique Gloss (CSP- 69 5) and Apple Blossom ( 4 79). Carefully sele cted by che JMKA des igners co pcovide the perfect fo cal point, the y are mid-century pendants by Ascron with a flare in orange. The eye is immediatel y dra wn co th ese striking fixtur es. Th e applian ces in the kitchen offer modern co nvenienc e whil e ble~ding perfeccly with the mid-century styl e of the space. The refri gerato r is a 36" GE Stainle ss Steel Profile; che Oven is a 30" Bosch single wall oven with cookcop; the H ood is a Zep hyr Guse und er-cabin et ; and th e Dish washer is a Bosch Ascenca Ser ies Stainless Steel. W ich carefu l accencion co detail, the JMKA Archit ects desi gn team has transformed chis once outdated kit chen into a modern masterpi ece evocat ive of mid-c entur y style. Bright colors, sta inl ess stee l app liances, and rich oak floors flow easily with che rest of che hom e.
