2 CULINARY Theoretical Academic Individual Project New Orleans, LA 28,000 sq ft Spring 2012 LO C AT I O N This Culinary Institute of New Orleans is located in the historic St. Roch s Neighborhood, an area that prides itself on a spectacular food culture. This structure aims to become an icon in an up-andcoming district. PROGRAM This project is a Culinary Arts College, with associated restaurants. The emphasis is on steel construction view of culinary institute DESIGN This project defines the edges of the site by creating a protective U. The courtyard is activated by shifting the focus to the teaching kitchens, all seven of which protrude out into the space, providing entertainment, protection from the elements, and food for special events. Their importance is further emphasized through visual connections created by pulling away the facade where the kitchens overlap. 3 U R BANBUILD Under Construction Collaborative (23) New Orleans, LA 9,500 sq ft Fall 2012 PROGRAM This is a Commercial Center comprised of five apartments, four generic retail spaces, a cafe and courtyard, and micro business pods. All with considerations for a phased build out. phase I PHASES Phase I: a landscape strategy focused on micro-business pods is implemented. Phase II: construction on the core building begins through an incremental build out. Phase III: micro-pods are displaced and distributed down the commercial corridor phase II DESIGN We focused on a branding identity that could unite the disparate program elements. phase III RESPONSIBILITIES I worked on the initial development of the plan of the cafe and courtyard spaces in a team of three. I then assisted on the development of the pods for Phase I and spearheaded Phase III of the project. Additionally I worked to set up the exhibit and wrote the fundraising book. focus cafe focus courtyard
4 F URNITURE B U S S TO P Competition First Collaborative (12) Fall 2009 This project focused on the creation of an informational kiosk and bus stop. Due to budget constraints, we decided to use a cheap and common material in a way that was beautiful. We crisscrossed lengths of 2 x4 boards and connected them at three points, using the seats and the display panel to help solidify the structure. It was placed at the corner of Hickory and Leonidas street. BENCH information kiosk Competition Finalist Collaborative (6) Spring 2009 This project focused on rethinking the traditional bench. A single rope weaved through the frame to create the main support, while nylon threads formed seats. SHELF the bench front the bench detail Individual Project Summer /4 2 This project focused on modular and demountable furniture. It is self supporting without fasteners. 5 S U KKAH 2.0 Collaborative (6) New Orleans, LA 100 sq ft Fall 2010 LO C AT I O N This was the second year the Tulane School of Architecture and Tulane s chapter of Hillel worked together to bring well designed Sukkahs to Tulane s campus for Sukkot. DESIGN The concept behind our Sukkah was for it to be a beacon of light in space, which earned it the name, The Lantern. With that base, we wrapped the form with pieces designed as an abstracted ribbon. This worked to contain the space in an element that both dovetailed with the rules for Sukkah as well as the location where it was placed, a small courtyard adjacent to the Campus Commons. Finally, as mandated by Jewish law, the roof was composed of natural materials, open enough to see the sky. 6 T H E AT E R Theoretical Academic Individual Project San Lorenzo, Rome 160,000 sq ft Fall 2011 LO C AT I O N San Lorenzo is a district of Rome that hosts the La Sapienza University. Because of this the area has taken on a young and artsy personality. P R O G R A M This is a mixed-use Theater University. It provides for two theater spaces, classrooms, student housing, and commercial spaces v i e w f r o m a b o v e D E S I G N The design focused on the juxtaposition of a large formal and a small informal theater space. To create this, the formal theater pulls away from the whole, leaving a courtyard in its absence. The grand staircase, leading towards the lobby, is widened to act as seating for the exterior stage. Commercial and housing units ring this piazza in order to activate it.
