3 Potentate s Message Greetings Fellow Nobles and Friends AAD Potentate Pavlovich with Imperial Sir Dale Stauss A successful Ceremonial was held at our AAD Temple on Saturday June 21st. I want to thank the Ritual Divan under the direction of Chief Rabban Richard Sellman for their hard work in performing the Ritual presentation to our new Nobles. I also want to thank my wife, Lady RaeAnn for hosting the women s program for the new Noble s spouses and families. There were representatives from the Ladies Auxiliary, Daughters of the Nile and Shriners Hospital for Children at the luncheon to share their story. The wives and families were then invited back to AAD Shrine for the presentation of the new Noble s Red Fez. We recently returned from the 140 th Imperial Session held in Minneapolis. The meetings were very informative. I was very impressed by the Hospital presentation and the Shriners children who got up on stage to share their story about how Shriners Hospitals for Children positively impacted their lives. Their parents also thanked the Shriners for their help and support. I came back with a greater understanding and respect for Shriners International. We truly are honored to be a part of one of the greatest philanthropies on earth! I recently hosted the Past Potentates luncheon at our Temple. We had a great turn out of Illustrious Sirs. They were given an update of the Imperial Session and toured the recently completed kitchen. We also discussed issues that are relative to our Temple s past, present and future. I received valuable advice and suggestions at the luncheon. I thanked them all for their past service to the Temple on behalf of the Divan and their fellow Nobles. We will be having our Stated meeting on Tuesday August 5 th. I hope to see many of you at the meeting. Asst. Rabban Ron Pete will be making our first Stated Meeting dinner in our recently completed kitchen. Nobles, this is your Shrine Temple. Come to this meeting or the next to see and hear what new and exciting changes are happening. Yours in the Faith, Potentate Ted Pavlovich 3

4 2014 AAD NEWS SUPPORTERS MEMORIALS SUPPORTERS In Memory of Jean Christopherson Ted & Donna Callahan Clifford & Shirley Boe In Memory of Albert Jensen Masonic Male Chorus DONATIONS Anonymous Dune Buggy Patrol The AAD Shrine Dune Buggy Patrol recently purchased a 50 car hauler trailer so we can transport 4 Buggies to parades, etc. rather than towing each Buggy individually. This will allow for less wear and tear on the Buggies. So far we've used the trailer for Parades in Hayward, six Parades on the 4th of July on the Iron Range, Imperial Session in Mpls. and the Hibbing Parade. We ll probably do about parades this year. We also participated in the International Association of Shrine Motor Corp Competition at the Imperial Session in Minneapolis. We took 2nd Place in the Four Wheel Medium Class! Noble Scott Twining also competed in the Obstacle Course Competition and took 2nd Place.Way to go Dune Buggy Team! We also participated in the Shrine Parade in downtown Minneapolis as we escorted the AAD Shrine Divan in the parade. It was a great experience. Thank you to all of the Dune Buggy members participating in these events. The Potentate of AAD Shrine; Ted Pavlovich, and the Venerable Master of the Duluth Valley Scottish Rite; Ken Smith, are thrilled to announce this celebration of Freemasonry to promote fellowship for all area Masons, their friends and families. There will be live music, kid friendly food and entertainment to promote goodwill and cooperation between Appendant Bodies, to support area Blue Lodges and to support our various Masonic charities. Remember to mark your calendars for the Great Masonic Get Together. Shrine Units performing throughout the day Cash bar will be available $10 donation suggested. Greetings Nobles, It often surprises me when one of our Nobles from Aad Shrine is called to the Supreme Architect of the Universe and has made no estate plan or has not expressed his wishes to his loved ones. As Shriners we all have a special place in our heart for our great philanthropy, The Shriners Hospitals for Children, and yet we don t give or plan to give to our hospital which does wonders for our children. As Aad Shrine Donor Relations Representative, I would invite you to call me and ask how I can help you make plans or share ideas how you can give to our Shrine Hospital. In a future Aad News I ll be discussing options that may be of interest to you. Best wishes, Richard Ike Eisenmann, PP Donor Relations Representative Cell 2014 Summer MSA Sioux Falls, SD Register online at this website General Noble Registration, $65/per Noble We look forward to seeing you there! 6 FROM THE MEMBERSHIP CHAIRMAN Nobles, it was great to see ten new Nobles created at our recent Hot Sands, but that is just a small portion of the number we need to create this year. Our Potentate challenged every club and unit to bring in five new Shriners this year. Has your club or unit done this? From the number (10) it would certainly seem not. We have so much to offer as Shriners. It's the greatest place for Master Masons to have fun! That's why we joined. Then years later, our early Nobles realized that we also needed a philanthropy and Shriners Hospitals were created. Today, we have helped over 1 million kids and we have 22 hospitals to support. We need members and only you can help. We have two extremely good programs going at AAD this year. Any Noble who was dropped for non-payment of dues can come back into the fold by simply paying $79 for 2014 dues--no reinstatement fees, no back dues. Just send $79 to the Shrine Office and BINGO! you're a Shriner in good standing once again. The second program is called "TWO FOR DUES." Any Noble being the top line signer on two petitions for new Nobles will be excused from paying dues for So, get to your Blue Lodges, talk about the Shrine. Get those two new Nobles and your dues are covered for next year! What more can you ask for? Your dues are paid and you will have brought two new Shrine Masons to YOUR temple! I cannot stress enough how important it is for us to grow in numbers this year. Will you do YOUR part? Ron Pete, Assistant Rabban Membership Chairman WANTED AAD Drum & Bugle Corps is looking for new members. Applicants need not have previous experience. However, Bugle players with past experience would be helpful. We provide the instruments, the uniforms, dues & inigagon. We meet at the Shrine Center 7:00 P.M. Thursdays. Come and check us out. We are a fun loving group of guys that are in need of your help. Call: Dave Hartwick Capt Dale Johnson Sec Director s Staff News Greetings, there will be no Ladies Night in July or August. The next regular meetings will be July 29th and August 26 th. Reminder, on August 9th there will be an All Masonic Get Together at the Shrine Temple, please check the AAD News for times. On September 9th the Directors Staff Corn Roast will be held at the Shrine Temple and this will be our Ladies Night. The Director s Staff was in the Bay Days Parade in Silver Bay on July 13 th. We will be in the Spirit Valley Parade on Thursday July 31 st. Thank you to Jack Byrd for rebuilding the engine in our Willies Jeep and it works great! There will be a dance open to everyone at the Shrine on Aug 19 th, 6:30 till 9:30, Big Band music, cash bar, $5.00 cover charge. Thank you, Gene Rands 6

7 Border Shrine Circus The Border Shrine circus was well attended. The Potentate of both AAD and Khartum were able to attend. Due to being in Canada the elephant was not able to get across the border. I don t think she had any DUI s but she was denied crossing. The two bears were there. The 12 year old bears are quite well behaved. At one point the female would not co-operate for pictures but after getting a drink of water she went right back to work getting her picture taken. We had at least 5 clowns attend and they were very busy visiting with the kids young and old alike. The high wire cycle act was really something to watch. During intermission there were horse rides, pictures with the bear, the inflatable slide and the inflatable bouncing house. The First Nation brought in several buses of kids all ready for a good time. As we stood holding the doors open for people to enter we could see the anticipation on their faces. At the end of the show we stood holding the doors handing out suckers and balloons. It was rewarding to see the smiling faces and hear the thank you as people filed out. The little ones tired themselves out trying not to miss a thing. I think it is safe to say that fun was had by all. A big Thank You to the Border Shrine Ladies, for the Sloppy Joe lunch that was served in between the performances. Don Ewald High Priest & Prophet Imperial Session 2014 Minneapolis, MN 7
