3 WHAT S ON EXHIBITIONS SAVING THE CITY 24 January to 8 April, Free (main gallery) First shown at the Venice Biennale 2016, this exhibition presents thirty years of factory-built housing designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (RSHP) and highlights the need for a revolution in housing supply, towards welldesigned, fast-build, high-performance, affordable homes. MAPPING NEW HOMES IN BRISTOL 24 January to 8 April, Free (foyer space) What s happening in Bristol to tackle the housing crisis? This exhibition showcases research by UWE Architecture students that shines a light on what s being built and what s in the pipeline for Bristol housing. In partnership with UWE. BUILDING BETTER HOMES Arnolfini: Wed 24 January, 18:30, 9/ 7 Find out how the research and experience of socially responsible architects Sarah Wigglesworth, Alex Ely (Mae Architects) and Simon Bayliss (HTA) has been put into practice to build better homes for all at a range of scales. This event is in partnership with UWE and is the public launch event for the academic conference Health: The Design, Planning and Politics of How and Where We Live (25-26 Jan). In partnership with RIBA South West. HOME BUILDING: IVAN HARBOUR Watershed: Tues 27 February, 18:30, 9/ 7 Expanding on themes in the Saving The City exhibition, Ivan Harbour (RSHP) discusses the practice s approach to tackling the housing crisis. Projects include PLACE/Ladywell - a mixeduse development with temporary accommodation, and Y:Cube - starter residences for young people. All events require booking. 4 SITE VISIT: WE CAN MAKE Filwood Community Centre: Wednesday 21 February, 11:00, Free Discover more about We Can Make, a citizen-led housing initiative that supports communities to create their own homes. The project has brought together residents, artists, academics, designers and policy makers to deliver affordable housing. In partnership with Knowle West Media Centre and White Design. TRINITY TALK: RESURRECTION MAN Trinity Centre: Wednesday 20 March, 19:00, Free As the Trinity Centre undergoes its own restoration project, find out how architect Tim Ronalds has breathed new life into old buildings from the Hackney Empire to Wilton s Music Hall. In partnership with Trinity Centre, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic England and Up Our Street. NEWS White Design BRISTOL DOORS OPEN DAYS: DATES ANNOUNCED FOR 2018 Bristol s biggest architecture festival returns this year from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 September Make sure you put the dates in your diary! HOUSING THE HOMELESS Wednesday 14 March, 18:30, 8/ 6 From affordable housing to hostels that provide residents with much needed space, privacy, care and attention, architect Peter Barber shares a range of projects tackling homelessness. Morley von Sternberg BRISTOL URBAN DESIGN FORUM Managed by the Architecture Centre, the Bristol Urban Design Forum (BUDF) continues to champion high quality design in the city. The forum offers independent and expert advice from a panel of built environment professionals on major planning applications.

5 NEXT GENERATION NEWS CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: SHAPE MY CITY 2018 Celebrating its fifth successful year, our careers and participation programme is open for applications. Shape My City is for year olds interested in built environment and creative design professions. Primarily targeted at girls and young people from BAME backgrounds, it is open to all. Deadline: Monday 19 February what-we-do/shape-my-city EVENTS ACCESS ALL AGES: FAMILY ARTS FESTIVAL ON TOUR February, Across the city, Free Throughout February we will be hosting a series of creative events for young and old alike to celebrate the new Age-Friendly Standards. From Olympic athlete to film star, historic explorer to pop star who is your hero and can you model their dream house? SHIPPING CONTAINERS AND SHOEBOXES! Drop-in workshop: Saturday 7 April, 13:00-16:00, Free Help bring our housing season to a fantastic finale by becoming small space designers for the afternoon. Be inspired by compact shipping container housing and create your very own home from a shoebox! GALLERY ACTIVITY 24 January to 8 April, Free Always free, always fun and open to everyone! Families of all ages are invited to get creative in our gallery activity area make : space, inspired by our housing exhibitions.
