Mogologolo Mountain Estate is located on the mountainside above Ohrigstad, portion of the Middeveld situated in the Escarpment Region of Mpu malanga.

The Escarpment region is known for its good rainfall and this evergreen corner of South Africa provides an ideal backdrop for ecotourism opportunities. TZANEEN Mpumalanga means Place where the sun rises, translated from the local language, SiSwati, and is bordered by Mozambique and Swaziland in the east and Gauteng in the west. It is situated mainly on the high plateau grasslands of the Middeveld, which roll eastwards for hundreds of kilometers. In the north-east it rises to mountain peaks and then terminates in an immense and breathtaking escarpment. As a modern and progressive region, Mpumalanga offers both the new and the old creating a truly exceptional atmosphere for tourism, from game viewing and bird watching and its associated conservation and wildlife programmes, the ancient ruined cities of its indigenous peoples and old wagon routes of the European Voortrekkers escaping the confines of the Colonial rule of the Cape and the more modern versions of agricultural and industrial tourism, and finally to the wonder of its vast array of panoramic and breathtaking towering mountains, waterfalls, canyons along its scenic routes. The area is crisscrossed by a network of excellent roads and railway connections, making it highly accessible to the tourist. It is also well served by a number of small airports, which service modern hotels and guest houses, private game reserves and lodges. This infrastructure provides for conference facilities, sporting activities, historic tours and game viewing. HOEDSPRUIT Ohrigstad experiences a mild climate with summer rainfall and light showers during the winter months. Temperatures range between an average of 25ºC in summer and 17ºC in winter. The MME site is well suited for development as it has extensive north facing slopes, providing the best orientation for the warming of houses as it passes overhead but avoiding the harsh westerly rays of the setting sun. The relatively undisturbed site, located within the Savannah Biome, covered with mixed Mountain Bushveld and Thornveld is in relatively good condition. Ohrigstad has strong links with both the indigenous tribes, who moved into the area during the migrations of the Nguni people searching for grazing for their herds and the Boer Republic. Caves, hill and mountain faces, serve as a window into the lives of the hunter and gatherers, San and Khoisan, who inhabited the region long before the earliest influx of Nguni people who brought their herds, and mined red ochre, and finally became smelters of iron and copper. A second Nguni immigration advanced the art of iron-smelting and the building of stone-walled houses for their settlements. The movements of warring clans, roaming the hills and plains in search of grazing for their cattle and safety for their people have resulted in a diverse set of peoples. In later centuries Mpumalanga witnessed the rise of some of the earliest recorded South African states predating and in some cases predicating the early nineteenth century Zulu kingdom. BURGERFORT STEELPOORT OHRIGSTAD The area has seen the full range of warrior clans, who lived by war for survival, the Ndebele, Swazi, Shangane, and Pedi have all controlled the hills and plains at some time. PILGRIMS REST The site itself, with gentle slopes and plains and good drainage features, offers a suitably topography and ecologically balanced site for a number of different development opportunities, an eco-estate in the north east on the lower slopes of the mountainside comprising large plots of approximately 4000m², smaller village units, a hotel with its associated tourist facilities and glamping chalets and finally the natural environment which extends around these developments and up the mountain. GRASKOP All the units within the eco-estate will be subject to rigorous architectural design controls, defining the vision of the estate as a whole as well as the building and landscaping requirements, through a Home Owners Association. Whilst a broad range of choice will be allowed for the individual eco-estate units, the overall character will be identified through external elements such as roofing forms, colours, textures, finishes and materials, which along with landscaping create a cohesive architecture, monopolise the topography, natural features, views and proximity to both the Bushveld and the mountain and at the same time acknowledge the unique cultural heritage of the area.
