1 By: T: David Knx ELS partnership bard Date 21/10/15 Subject Skills and Emplyability - Guilds Classificatin: Hspitality, Leisure and Turism is the mst advanced guild s far with a wide range f supprt acrss the sectr, culminating in the Big Hspitality Cnversatin with a date yet t be decided. There was a HLTT zne at the Kent Chices 4 U Live event in March. An emplyability passprt is being reviewed with The Abbey Schl, MidKent Cllege, The Rsemary Shrager Ckery Schl and East Kent Cllege. Other key stakehlders include Visit Kent and Springbard UK, Tm Oultn is currently wrking with them fr feedback n the pilt and agreeing the next stages. We have crdinated the schls engagement fr Rsemary Shrager and her apprenticeship scheme this year. Between February and May twelve events in lcal schls were held. The feedback has been very gd, and the schl has received a gd level f applicatins fr the September start. The guild plans t create a web-based prtal t assist emplyers t signpst changing emplyment and skills needs t ensure prviders can meet existing demand and deliver skills pipelines in advance f future requirements. The prtal will prvide training and skills infrmatin, advice and guidance abut entry paths t the sectr and a means fr emplyers t ffer wrk experience, apprenticeships, part and full time wrk and prfessinal career pprtunities. The prtal will link with Kent Cunty Cuncil s Kent Chices 4U site. A scping meeting has taken place with Visit Kent abut whether Transprt and Lgistics wuld be set up as separate guilds, hwever frm discussins with emplyers it was agreed t keep them as part f this guild. A meeting fr the steering grup is being planned fr Nvember t review current status and a new date fr the Big Hspitality Cnversatin has been cnfirmed 27/1/16 at Ashfrd. Cnstructin and the Built Envirnment An initial steering meeting tk place in February. Key stakehlders at this stage include trade rganisatins, FE Clleges, schls and cntractrs. Thse present at the meeting frm the educatin sectr included MidKent Cllege, Flkestne Academy, KAFEC and TrAC SAS. The guild frmat was established after several successful steering grups t discuss hw we might as lcal authrities use prcurement t increase the quantity and quality f yung peple ging int the sectr. A call fr actin has been sent ut t create a single pint f cntact and a guild website, which will publicise utreach pprtunities available thrugh the guild t schls. Land Securities have nw attended the last meeting and we are wrking with them n their emplyment strategy in Ebbsfleet, which will create 600 pprtunities year n year until 2022.

Speakers included Jseph Buels f Mascalls Schl, wh spke abut study prgrammes and best practice in schls, and Ed Dean f Land Securities, with a fcus n the emplyment strategy in Ebbsfleet Valley. The next meeting f this guild is being planned fr Nvember t review utcmes and actin pints frm last meeting, with updates frm key stakehlders. Case Study frm TrAC Hi Tm Thanks fr getting in tuch TrAC has recently been very busy in Kent with ne cmpletin and int emplyment and tw starts in the last 3 weeks plus 12 due t start by mid-september f which verall 8 have been generated by KCC pr - here are the facts and figures which may help t shw prgress. This has created links t a wide range f emplyers we need t see hw we can develp the guild thrugh this prtal. A meeting has nw taken place with ur Arts and Culture team wh already have set up a Cultural Transfrmatin Bard, which has the same principle f ur Guilds, s a new meeting has been arranged t see hw we can wrk with this grup. They have already created an Arts Award prtfli, which is similar t ur emplyability passprt

3 with the arts Cuncil England. Skills and Emplyability Service Inspire is a schl based learning prgramme which they have created t prvide pprtunities fr students t learn utside f schls. Develping creative and leadership skills and intrducing them t the wrld f wrk. Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing - We are currently talking t different training prviders t under the level f training available and t under the issues arund recruitment and hw we can address this and mve this guild frward, with the relevant emplyers invlved. The Engineering and Cnstructin event take place at Detling Cunty shw grund with a lwer than expected turn ut frm the schls and the reasns why are being reviewed by Tni Clarke. A meeting has taken place with Greenwich University abut degree level apprenticeships and hw this guild culd link tgether. Guy Rbinsn wh is ur new Emplyability Develpment Officer has nw started and will be tasked with driving this guild frward; we are due t attend the next ECITB frum t start this prcess. The land based and envirnmental sectr - The third Land Based & Envirnmental Guild meeting tk place n 30th June at Thanet Skills Studi. S far the meetings have been schl/prvider heavy s the next meeting will include emplyers like Thanet Earth and rganisatins Like LANTRA, Prduced in Kent and the Kent Agricultural Sciety. We will be develping the Kent PLC website as a hst page fr all resurces and linking this with the Natinal Farmers Unin yuth magazine which prmtes the sectr t schl students. Life Science - we are currently wrking with Kate frm Pfizer s wh is part f the BiGateway which was launched at the end f June Recently we had a meeting with Canterbury Christchurch arund develping a degree level apprenticeship in life sciences, s are lking at hw we can take this frward and have made links with East Kent Cllege. A meeting has taken place with East Kent Cllege, Canterbury Christchurch University and Pfizer s t discuss setting up a degree level apprenticeship. All parties expressed an interest in wrking tgether t set up a guild in life sciences.
