1 Rm Selectin FAQ s What are the imprtant dates t knw? Residency Requirement: As a fur year residential liberal arts cllege, all students are required t live n campus. The release prcess t live ff campus takes place in the fall f each academic year. If yu have nt already received a release fr the academic year, yu are required t live n campus. Please see the full plicy n the CSB Residential Life website.

2 Criteria t be eligible t select husing: Must cmplete Fall 2018 Husing Intent Frm n later than Thursday, March 1, Must register fr Fall 2018 classes at least 24 hurs prir t the selectin prcess yu are participating in. In additin, please remember, yu must have a full grup fr fall t select husing at yur best time. Fr example, yu must have fur peple wh will be here and wh are registered fr fall term t live in a fur-persn apartment. In rder t participate in rm selectin, yu must REGISTER FOR CLASSES FOR FALL 2018 NO LESS THAN 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE OF YOUR SELECTION TIME. Yu will nt be able t pick yur husing withut becming registered fr Fall Only students wh need husing n campus fr Fall 2018 need t participate in rm selectin. Thse wh will be abrad in the fall will nt participate in rm selectin. Instead, they will be cntacted later in spring term t regarding their preferences fr husing in the spring f Students wh have been ffered a release t live ff campus and wh have signed their acceptance frms will nt participate in rm selectin. Individuals wh are nt eligible t participate in rm selectin are: Students granted ff-campus releases wh have returned their acceptance f release agreement Resident Assistants (RAs) Cmmunity Advisrs (CAs) and their rmmates Fall Study Abrad participants Thse wh fail t register fr classes 24 hurs in advance f their selectin prcess. Thse wh fail t cmplete a fall husing intent frm (due by March 1 st *) *Thse wh cmplete the Fall Husing Intent frm after March 1 st may still participate hwever they be placed at the end f their chrt fr selectin and will nt have a gd number. What if I am nt registered fr Fall by my selectin time? Yu wn t be eligible fr Senir Majrity Selectin, Suite Selectin, Sphmre Single Rm Selectin, regular Rm Selectin r any selectin prcess. Yu will nt be able t access the selectin prcess nr will yur rmmates be able t pull yu int their living grup. Yu will be ineligible & yur grup wuld nt be able t include yu in their grup, if they are nt a full grup they cannt pick husing and thus they wuld be unable t participate in the prcess. Hw are Selectin Numbers Determined? Students are srted in the fllwing manner t determine selectin times: Chrt grups are assigned t each individual: Rising Sphmres 1 r 2 semesters in cllege (Chrt D) Rising Junir 3 r 4 semesters in cllege (Chrt C) Rising Senir 5 r 6 semesters in cllege (Chrt B) Rising SR+ 6 r mre semesters in cllege (Chrt A) Within each chrt grup individuals are assigned randm selectin numbers within a set range f numbers. The numbers are created/applied using a randm number generatr in ur husing sftware prgram. Access lists fr the nline selectin prcess are srted accrding t yur selectin number. The best number in the prcess is #1, the clser t #1 yu are, the better yur selectin number. The ranges fr selectin numbers are as fllws: Chrt D: 1726 t 2300 Chrt C: 1151 t 1725 Chrt B: 576 t 1150 Chrt A: 1 t 575

3 Why shuld I have mre than ne chice fr husing? The reality f rm selectin is that nt everyne will be able t get their first chice f husing. It is imprtant t have a number f different chices ready fr rms in the event yu are nt able t pick yur first chice. Nt all senirs will live in apartments with private bedrms (Luetmer/Cllege Ave/Centennial Cmmns) Sme senirs will live in Old East r West Apartments. Nt all junirs will be able t select apartments. Sme junirs will select husing in Lttie/Margretta/Brian. Nt all sphmres wh want ne will be able t select a suite r a single rm. The majrity f sphmres live in duble rms. If yu are a rising senir please be aware that there are apprximately 116 beds in Centennial Cmmns, Cllege Avenue Apartments ffers 14 beds in tw persn units and there are 136 beds available in Luetmer in the selectin prcess. These (and all campus apartments) will be available as part f Senir Majrity Selectin*. A limited number f these apartments are in tw persn apartments and mst are in fur persn apartments. Nt every senir living n campus will be able t pick a tw-persn apartment nr will all fur persn grups be able t live in Centennial Cmmns r Luetmer. It is wise t discuss alternative chices with their living grup. Be ready t select in Centennial Cmmns r Luetmer. Cnsider that yu shuld discuss what yur plan wuld be if Centennial Cmmns, Luetmer and Cllege Avenue were full: be ready t chse husing in McDnald, Wirth, r Zierden (als part f the East Apartments) r which buildings in the West Apartments yu wuld prefer. Remember, Senir Majrity Selectin requires pre-registratin t participate yu need t indicate yu want t be part f this prcess n yur CSB Fall Husing Intent Frm! If yu are a rising junir, understand that husing in Centennial Cmmns, Luetmer and Cllege Avenue will almst certainly be full. Yur living grup shuld make plans t select husing in McDnald, Wirth, r Zierden (n the East Side f Campus near the HCC) and/r in the West Apartments. Plan n a living grup f 4. While mst junirs will live in apartments, there is nt requirement nr is there any guarantee that junirs will live in apartments. Cnsider that it is pssible and even likely that apartments will fill up and yu may be selecting husing in Lttie/Margretta/Brian. Wuld yu want t be in a fur r six-persn suite? Wuld yu want t select a duble with a private bathrm r ne f the large crner rms in Margretta? If yu are a rising sphmre, and yu are hping t select suites**, yu will want t cnsider hw yu will break up a six-persn grup and where yu wuld want t select duble rms in the event that yu d nt get a suite (remember all suites are part f the suite selectin prcess fr sphmres). There are nly 136 beds in suites and apprximately 500 rising sphmre students, nt everyne will be able t select a suite. Please be aware t select a suite yu must pre-register fr Suite Selectin yu need t indicate yu want t be part f this prcess n yur CSB Fall Husing Intent Frm! Each living grup member must als attend a Rmmate 101 wrkshp t be eligible fr suites! What happens if we dn t have enugh peple t fill an apartment? YOU MUST HAVE A FULL LIVING GROUP FOR FALL SEMESTER IN ORDER TO SELECT HOUSING. If yu have yur heart set n a suite/apartment but are shrt ne persn, yu may use the Find a Rmmate functin in the Husing Prtal. Remember, it is yur respnsibility t make sure yu have the right number f students fr a rm yu must have a full grup fr FALL t select husing. If yu request a 4-persn apartment and nly have 3 peple, yu will nt be allwed t select an apartment, hwever yu can be placed n a waiting list. Yu will still want t select sme type f husing in Lttie/Margretta/Brian hwever as there are n guarantees yur grup will be able t mve ff the waiting list and int an apartment. We will wrk with grups as space allws. The best ptin is t be a full grup fr fall, we understand this is nt always easy with a large numbers f junirs studying abrad. Yu may have t be flexible abut yur plans. Yu cannt select different types f husing, like apartments, if yu are nt a full grup. And remember, even if yu are a full grup yu still need t have ideas beynd apartments in mind when preparing fr selectin (see previus sectin Why shuld I have mre than ne chice fr husing ).

4 Please Remember - Yu d nt have t have a full grup fr spring t participate in rm selectin we dn t need t knw anything at this pint abut yur living grup fr spring. If yu have a vacancy in the spring, yu can have smene switch in wh is returning frm abrad r frm a rm dwn the hall. If yu dn t have a spring rmmate lined up, we will assign a rmmate t the grup frm thse returning frm abrad, incming transfer and internatinals students and ther CSB students seeking n campus husing. What if the persn that I want t live with next year is transferring here frm anther schl? Yu may select her as a rmmate, but t d this yu and the transfer student must cntact the Residential Life Office (in writing is fine) n less than 1 week (7 days) in advance f yur selectin time and tell them that yu will be living tgether. The incming transfer/readmitting student als must be enrlled fr Fall 2018 (nt just admitted) in rder fr yu t hld a space fr her in campus husing. She will nt receive a selectin number in the prcess but yu will be able t bring her in as a rmmate prvided yu have cntacted us a week prir t yur selectin time and she is enrlled. What if rising junirs/senirs want t live with a rising sphmre?(by Sphmre, we mean this year s First Year students) If yu wish t live with a sphmre in a Lttie/Margretta/Brian Hall, yu may select at yur grups best selectin time. Junirs and senirs will have first pririty fr the apartments. Upper class students wh want t have a sphmre (this year s first year student) in their living grup will be unable t select an apartment during the general selectin prcess. This is because all grups cmprised cmpletely f junir and senir wmen have the pprtunity t select first. Yur grup will nt be allwed t select husing in apartments and can be placed n a waiting list in regards t apartments. Yu will still want t select sme type f husing in Lttie/Margretta/Brian at yur best time hwever as there are n guarantees, and it is unlikely, yur grup will be able t mve ff the waiting list and int an apartment. What if I have a special medical cnditin r ther special needs that require a specific type f husing? If this is the case yu must cmplete a Husing Accmmdatin Request Frm n later than March 1 st. Please submit all requested letters f supprt n later than March 16. The Request and supprting materials shuld clearly demnstrate hw the medical need crrelates t the requested accmmdatin thugh pre-assignment r assignment f special husing that cannt be secured n yur wn thrugh the regular Rm Selectin prcess. Yu will need dcumentatin as utlined n the Request frm a bard certified medical/mental health prfessinal. Hw can we select a suite? Why d sphmres have t attend the Rmmate 101 Wrkshp? If yu are a RISING JUNIOR OR RISING SENIOR, yu can select a suite rm during the General Rm Selectin Prcess fr junirs and senirs n April 19. Yu can live with ther junirs/senirs and/r yu can pull rising sphmres in with yu. If yu are a RISING SOPHOMORE, yu will need t attend ne f the Rmmate Selectin wrkshps and yu can then try t select a suite during the suite selectin prcess n April 23. If yu are nt able t select a suite, then yu will need t decide hw t break up yur grup and select husing in the general sphmre rm selectin prcess n April 25. Suite selectin happens in advance f ther sphmre selectin t allw a bit f time t make an alternate plan. Suites are selected n April 23 in the Suite Selectin Prcess which fllws the General Selectin fr junirs and senirs. Yu must pre-register fr this when yu cmplete yur Fall Husing Intent Frm. In rder t be eligible t select a suite thrugh the pre-selectin prcess each grup member must attend ONE f the Rmmate 101 Wrkshps! Withut the wrkshp sphmres are nt eligible t select suites. Als, yur grup is nt eligible unless they are a full grup (a full grup is ne that has enugh peple t fill the space fr fall semester). This is a requirement as living grups with fur t six members are much mre difficult t navigate than a tw persn living grup. Yu have additinal living space t agree upn hw t manage (bathrms, living rms,

5 etc.) and time has demnstrated that 6 persn living grups in particular ften run int difficulties thrughut the curse f the year. Our gal is t help living grups ensure that they have had the cnversatins necessary t frm a slid living grup that will hpefully be successful in the cming year and have the tls ging int the experience t cmmunicate with ne anther abut their needs hnestly. Again, each grup member needs t make it t ne f the wrkshps ffered in rder t be eligible t select a suite as a sphmre (it des nt guarantee that yu will get a suite; hwever, yu can t try fr ne if yu dn t attend the wrkshp). What husing is pre selected? McDnald 6-persn, 3 bedrm apartments (there are 4 f these). One bedrm Apartments lcated in the Cllege Avenue Apartments (there are 8 f these). Hw des Pre Selectin Wrk? Pre-selectin is just like rm selectin except that yu simply cmplete an nline frm by March 1 st indicating yur interest fr a space. The grups with the best selectin number frm thse wh apply are made ffers. They can they accept r decline the pre-selectin ffer. Once all spaces are full, they are full. If yu dn t btain husing in preselectin yu will be ntified that yu did nt get the husing, yu applied fr in pre-selectin and yu then participate in the regular rm selectin prcess. What if I want t live in a single rm? If yu are a RISING JUNIOR OR RISING SENIOR, yu can select a single rm during the General Rm Selectin Prcess. If yu are a RISING SOPHOMORE Single Rm Selectin takes place n April 23 and is just like rm selectin in that it is based n chrt grup using the selectin number, yu will receive fr rm selectin. If yu are nt able t select a single rm, then yu will need t lk fr a rmmate and select husing in the general sphmre rm selectin prcess n April 25. Try t have anther living plan in mind s yu can adapt if yu aren t able t select a single. What happens if I am nt able t pick a Single Rm? There will be a single rm waiting list available fr thse nt able t select a single in the Single Rm Selectin Prcess. Hwever, there is n guarantee that additinal singles will becme available. We hld single rm selectin and the regular rm selectin n different nights fr rising sphmres in an effrt t allw yu a little time t get yur plan B int place if yu cannt select a single. If yu dn t btain husing in the Single Rm Selectin Prcess yu will be able t participate in the regular rm selectin prcess n April 25, hwever yu will need t identify a rmmate fr a duble rm t pick at yur best time. If yu are nt able t identify a rmmate in time fr duble rm selectin, set up an appintment t see the Directr f Husing n April 26 r 27 and she will assist yu as space allws in identifying a rm fr the cming year. What if I dn t have a rmmate but want a duble rm? Yu must have a full grup fr fall t select. The Residential Life & Husing staff has rganized rmmate mixers fr first year students wh are lking fr rmmates n February 28 th frm 9:00 t 10:00 pm in Crna LL. In additin t attending rmmate mixers, students wh are lking fr a rmmate may use Find a Rmmate functin in the Husing. Yu can cntact thers wh are in the same situatin and hpefully find a rmmate in the prcess Remember, it is yur respnsibility t make sure yu have the right number f students fr a rm yu must have a full grup fr FALL t select husing t pick a duble rm yu need 2 peple. We will d ur best t help yu and cnnect with yur thers as we are able, but it is yur respnsibility t engage and lk fr a rmmate. Please be sure t talk t yur RD r stp by the central Residential Life & Husing Office in Mary Cmmns s that we knw wh yu are and can d ur best t cnnect yu with thse wh are als lking fr a rmmate. If yu d nt have a full grup, yu will have t wait t select husing until the selectin prcess clses. Yu will need t set up an appintment t see the Directr f Husing after selectin is ver and she will assist yu as space allws in identifying a rm fr the cming year.

6 What happens if I can t lg in at my designated time? Yu can appint a prxy t lg in fr yu! If the persn with the best time in yur living grup is nt able t access a cmputer r is unable t lg n t select at their selectin time a prxy shuld be designated. The prxy can be any CSB student they designate t act n their behalf, it can be smene they plan t live with r just smene they trust wh is able t select n their behalf at the designated date and time. The prxy lgs in like nrmal t their prfile in the husing prtal. Once there they will click n a link act as prxy fr Jane De then they will basically be in Jane s prfile acting n Jane s behalf. See nline tutrial fr pictures f what yu shuld expect t see when setting up a prxy, when accepting t be smene s prxy and when acting as the prxy n smene s behalf. Yu can als change yur prxy if needed at any time. Visit the CSB SharePint Site fr mre infrmatin. What is the Senir Majrity Selectin Prcess fr Campus Apartments all abut? Due t direct feedback frm students, and cncerns brught t Residential Life n behalf f students by the CSB Senate, a selectin prcess fr the campus apartments where living grups that have a majrity f members wh are part f the rising senir chrt (thse wh started at CSB in 2015 r earlier) will be able t select husing in advance f General Rm Selectin. This allws the senirs, thse wh have been at CSB lngest t have access t their first preferences fr husing in their last year at CSB. Other campuses, including SJU, utilize a senir majrity rule fr Campus Apartment Selectin r ther chice husing spaces. We have adapted these prcesses t cmplement ur regular prcess as fllws: Living Grups with a majrity f residents wh are part f the Senir Chrt (thse wh started at CSB in the fall f 2015 r earlier) will need t submit a request t participate in the Senir Majrity Selectin Prcess in the 2018 Husing Intent frm. Selectin will be dne using the same selectin numbers as used in the regular selectin prcess. Yu may nt have yur selectin number yet but they were already generated when ff campus selectin was cnducted this fall. We will use yur selectin numbers t rganize registered grups based n the best number in each grup. APRIL 10 th will be nly fr grups selecting 2 persn apartments. All members in each living grup must be in the senir chrt. There are 16 tw persn apartments in Luetmer with private bedrms. There are 8 tw persn apartments in the Cllege Avenue Apartments with private bedrms. And last, there are 3 tw persn apartments with shared bedrm space in West Apartments. If a living grup is nt able t select a tw-persn apartment in the tw-persn prcess, they will be able t frm a 4-persn grup and register fr the Fur Persn Senir Majrity Prcess by April 17 at 8am. Grups need t enter the 2-persn prcess with a plan in mind s that they are able t regrup quickly fr the 4-persn prcess. APRIL 19 th will be fr all 4 persn apartments. Remember Participatin in Senir Majrity des nt guarantee that yu will be able t select an apartment with a private bedrm (Centennial, Cllege Ave r Luetmer). It merely gives grups cmprised cmpletely f senirs r 3 senirs + 1 junir the first pprtunity t select apartments n campus. Be ready with yur back up plans f where yu wuld want t live in McDnald, Wirth, Zierden r West shuld Luetmer and Centennial Cmmns be full when yu g t select! Nte: Grups f fur senirs select first fllwed by the grups f 3 senirs + 1 junir. All ther cmbinatins f junirs and senirs in living grups will participate in General Rm Selectin All remaining apartments will be selected in the General Rm Selectin Prcess What if I am studying abrad in the SPRING f 2019? Yu will g thrugh rm selectin as usual fr Next fall, yu will be asked t cancel yur husing fr spring semester n later than Nvember 1 st, ntices will be sent frm the Residential Life Office regarding this infrmatin and are imprtant fr yu t read and respnd t next fall. Yu will als receive infrmatin frm ur ffice next fall regarding designating a prxy and rm selectin fr

7 What if I am studying abrad in the FALL f 2018? Yu will NOT g thrugh rm selectin. Yu will receive infrmatin befre the end f this academic year regarding yur preferences and requests fr spring husing in Start talking with friends wh will have vacancies in the spring due t ne r mre members f the grup ging abrad, graduating and student teaching as we can ften help yu swap spaces. Nte if yu are ging abrad in the fall yu d nt cunt t make a full living grup fr the rm selectin prcess, yur friends must have a full grup fr fall in rder t select husing in the rm selectin prcess. Please nte that if fully vacant apartments becme available fr spring, they are assigned t grups based n their selectin numbers/randmly and nt just because yu fund a full grup t switch in with. This is dne t be as cnsistent as pssible with the rm selectin prcess fr thse returning frm abrad. The best way t assure yur plans wrk ut is t switch int a space with at least ne persn remaining as an anchr. Yu are nt guaranteed a switch if yu are asking t switch int an apartment where everyne is leaving after fall this is because we ften get multiple requests fr the same apartment that is ging t be vacant. Please be aware, the Off Campus Prcess fr will take place while yu are away next fall. If yu want t apply fr Off Campus Release in please be sure t make yurself familiar with the ff campus prcess nw. Ask questins nw and get the scp s that yu can wrk with friends frm all crners f the glbe next year as yu apply fr a release. DO NOT sign any leases fr husing ff campus withut a release in the prcess! Off-Campus Selectin: Members f the rising junir and senir chrt may apply fr the ff campus Release each year. Submitting an applicatin r participating in ff campus selectin des nt guarantee that ff campus residency will be granted. T avid these prblems, please fill ut and submit the applicatin fr ff campus Selectin. Sign Up fr the prcess is due Octber 15. A limited number f students will be released frm the residency requirement each year. Student may apply as individual* r as a grup. If students are applying as a grup, all members need t apply and must mutually request each ther n the applicatin frm. Students may nly enter int the selectin prcess nce each year (either as an individual r as a grup). Living grups may be cmprised f an individual r up t six members. Grups will be released based n the best number in their grup (just like the rm selectin prcess each spring). Each individual will be assigned a selectin number upn which the selectin prcess will be based. Selectin numbers will be assigned t students randmly within their respective chrt grups. T be eligible students must be in gd standing (if yu are n either academic r disciplinary prbatin at time f applicatin yu are nt eligible fr the prcess). In past years' ff campus selectin prcesses, nly senirs have been ffered releases in the first rund f the prcess. Furthermre, nt all senirs wh applied were ffered releases.
