Agngarayngay MONTH OF CONTACT NUMBERS DATE ADDRESS SUBMITTED August 2018 JUNE Title of Activity CHAPTER ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN DURING THE MONTH OF JULY Indicate your chapter activities undertaken during the month such as Chapter GMM, Professional Development Seminars, Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives, ACTIVITY NO.1: TAIWAN TOUR ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN BENCHMARKING: A Date May 28 to June 1, 2018 Perspective from TAIWAN Total Attendees Thirteen (13) Venue Taipei Taiwan Objective of the Activity This tour will provide the members insights on the best architectural and design practices Taipei. The group will visit heritage sites and the cities modern facilities. The delegates will also visit Tamkang University, the first private university in Taiwan with 4 campuses and serving 27,000 students enrolled in 59 programs. The Ministry of Interior through the Architecture and Building Research Institute will provide lectures of their Green Programs and a tour in the Living 3.0, which focuses on Intelligent Living Space. 2 HERE ARE THE MILESTONES DAY 1 All participants arrived at Taoyuan International Airport around 10:30am. We took the Metro Rail Transit to Ximending Area, where our hotels are located. After leaving our bags, we walked to the Office of the President of the Republic of China (Zhongzheng 5:00pm, then to Peace Park (Zhongzheng 5:20pm, then to National Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Park (Zhongzheng 5:40pm. 3 DAY 2 In the morning, all participants were instructed to assemble at the Hotel Lobby of Diary of Ximen II Liu Fu Branch (Wanhua District), where majority of the participants are checked-in. We were picked up by the Tourist Bus sponsored by HCG, at around 8:30am. Our first stop was at Yehliu Geopark (Wanli District). We arrived there at around 10:20am. Then, we reached Shifen Old Street (Pinxi 11:45am. We took our lunch at the local restaurant. It rained later in the afternoon, so we were not able to go to the waterfall at Shifen. Next stop was the National Revolutionary Martyrs Shrine (Zhongshan 3:00pm. After watching the ceremonial changing of the guards, it started raining again. We left the shrine after a while and was brought to the HCG Showroom. We gave our Certificate of Appreciation there. After this, they dropped us at the Shilin Night Market (Shilin District) afterwards. We ate our dinner and bought our souvenirs, and went back to our Hotel at around 8:00pm. 4 DAY 3 We assembled at the Hotel Lobby at around 8:30am. We headed for Taipei 101, and arrived too early at 9:40am. The Observatory opens at 10:00am, so we took our group pictures outside while waiting. We reached the 89 th Floor 10:25am. We stayed there for a while, went 11:20am to go to LRH Architects and Associates Firm. We arrived at their office at 12:30nn. The Principal Architect, Ar. Li Ren Hsiao ( 蕭力仁 ) presented his Company Profile and his famous projects. Afterwards, we quickly went to the Architecture and Research Building Institute Ministry of the Interior. We arrived at 2:00pm. They toured us around their Intelligent Living Space 3.0 Facility, where research on cutting-edge technology is incorporated in buildings. After the tour, we headed to their conference room to meet with the head of ARBI, Mr. Sammy / Lu Wen-Hung. The tour and meeting ended at 4:30pm. 5 DAY 4 Sta Mesa Group We left the hotel at 10:30am and headed to Taipei Zoo (Wenshan District) via MRT. We arrived at around 11:30am. We studied the layout and its facilities. Afterwards, we rode the Maokong Gondola / Cable Car (Wenshan 1:30pm. Then, we headed to Jiufen Old Street (Ruifang District), which is two hours away from Taipei by bus. We got there at around 5:00pm. The buildings there are built on the mountain side, much like Tagaytay, with great view of the ocean. We left 6:00pm, and arrived at our 8:00pm. PUP Group The program commenced at 2:00 PM and started with Archt. Jenny Ling presenting an overview of the Tamkang University - Tamsui Campus (Tamsui District). She went on to discuss the credentials/merits of the Department of Architecture. She proceeded to discuss the course curriculum and syllabus together with a PPT presentation. She also emphasized one of the primary focus of the department, which is the inclusion of topics on digital architecture, complemented by the use of their advanced robotic arms and cutting equipment. They presented the Certificates of Appreciation and tokens to Mr. Mi and Archt. Ling. They also gave tokens to each member of the PUP faculty group and followed by an official group picture. The group was toured within the various laboratories of the department specifically the areas where the processes of cutting and manufacturing of the student s works are done with the aid of their advanced digital programs together with their cutting equipment and the robot arms. Then we went on to the open grounds, where various installation of finished works by students are showcased. The group proceeded to the new building of the Center of Ocean and Underwater Technology Research Facility of TKU where we watched a video presentation of the research focus of the center and how the location of the TKU-Tamsui Campus made it an ideal site for the research center and its underwater works. The group then went back to the conference room and watched the video presentation of the professor responsible for handling the programs involving digital and robotic architecture. An open forum followed the presentation. An early dinner followed at around 5:30pm hosted by the Dept. of Architecture, TKU.
