3 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Darren Smyth Head of Commercial at Shannon Airport Darren Smyth is the Head of Commercial at Shannon Airport, part of the Shannon Group plc, the commercial semi state company established in It includes Shannon Airport, Shannon Commercial Properties, Shannon Heritage and the International Aviation Services Centre. Working in this group of businesses from heritage to tourism to aviation to regional development, we have asked Darren to share his views on Design and why design matters in retail, in consumer products, business services and events. Darren will give insights on how he thinks design can impact on consumer reactions and interactions; and why design is relevant to all sectors and business sizes. Darren is a board member of Retail Excellence, Ireland s largest representative body of retailers and serves on the all-party Oireachtias committee on retail based in Dáil Éireann. Lorna Ross Group Director, FJORD Dublin IMPROVE Lorna s design career has been an interesting journey spanning more than 25 years, with stops in the world of fashion, wearable technology and, most recently, health care. She is a futurist at heart, recognised for her ability to anticipate shifts in the social, cultural and economic context for design. She was one of the pioneering researchers to focus on wearable technologies and built a reputation for research activity in this arena. She later identified the theme of health as an emerging arena for design to thrive.

4 PANEL OF SPEAKERS Fiona Kearney Director of the Glucksman Gallery, UCC ASK Fiona Kearney is the founding Director of the Glucksman, a contemporary art space on the campus of University College Cork. In this position, she has curated numerous exhibitions of Irish and international art, as well as establishing the Glucksman s annual Craft + Design Fair, which will celebrate its 10th year in November Alanna Gallagher Columnist with the Irish Times Selector/curator of The Edit shortlist at Showcase. Alanna Gallagher is a columnist with the Irish Times and writes on many topics including fashion, beauty, interiors, and things to do. She curates the The Edit collection at Showcase, Ireland leading Gift, Craft and Design trade show. Alanna will share her views on Design in everyday life. She is passionate about placing design speak into the everyday. Kieran McCarthy Design & Build Director at KMC Homes Kieran McCarthy is a home designer and project manager. He is design & build director at KMC Homes. Kieran has pioneered the new home design & build approach having travelled as far as New Zealand in his study. KMC Homes goal is to make building an architecturally designed home as simple and stress free as possible..

5 PANEL OF SPEAKERS CREATE Neil O'Driscoll COO, Platform Avenue Platform Avenue delivers SaaS Submission Management software to clients in the Television, HR, Grant Management, and Local Government sectors. As the COO of Platform Avenue, Neil is responsible for bringing enterprise software from conception to global markets. Neil has a background in engineering, teaching, and managing IT strategy & software development projects. Marlon Dijkshoorn Director of Irish Door Systems Marlon Dijkshoorn is the Managing Director of IDS - Irish Door Systems Ltd. IDS is fast becoming a main leader in Ireland for the manufacturing of superior door systems. Innovative solutions and creative technologies allow us to achieve ground breaking advances in door production. 6 PANEL OF SPEAKERS MC: MÉABH RING Sean O Sullivan Head of Enterprise in LEO South Cork From his experience he sees the value Design at work in all business sectors especially for smaller companies. Designing products and services around the end consumer can be the unique selling point has been one of the most successful years for Cork micro enterprises. It had led to the creation of almost 260 jobs for County Cork. Almost 70 companies using Cork County Council s Local Enterprise Office (LEO) structure helped provide new jobs across a wide range of sectors including food, tech, retail, and professional services. The LEO offices in Cork North, Cork West, and South Cork granted 1.2m in financial supports in 2017 for manufacturing and internationally-traded micro-enterprises throughout the county. THINK DESIGN Méabh has worked in product development in the gift, craft, design and retail sector for almost 20 years. She sees the value and relevance of design across all business sectors. Working in marketing and as a mentor with the Local Enterprise Offices, Méabh sees how design thinking can help generate revenue and grow businesses. BOOK HERE TEST
