There were currently 67 Registered Practices on the List of Band 3 Architectural Consultants. HKIA received a letter from Development Bureau (DEVB) on 16 June 2017 regarding default adjudicator nomination under Security of Payment legislation (SOPL). Having considered the views of members of DEVB s Task Force on SOPL, DEVB decided to adopt the claimant propose-respondent select procedure. DEVB also informed that the drafting of the Bill was commenced. It was preparing to issue a joint letter to DEVB proposing amendments to the draft procedure to retain the rights of the contracting parties to mutually agree on the nomination of adjudicator without intervention of Adjudicator Nominating Body. The. Proposed amendments to the HKIA Agreement between Client and Architect, Guidelines to HKIA Members on Participation in Invited Submission for Architectural Consultancy Proposal and Code of Professional Conduct had been presented at the members forum on 3 July 2017 and adopted at the Special General Meeting on 18 August Meetings attended HKIA attended a focus group meeting of Construction Industry Council regarding forecasting of demand and supply of Site Supervisory Personnel, Technicians and Professionals in Hong Kong Construction Industry on 31 July HKIA attended an exchange session of Architectural Services Department on Works Policy on Buildability Evaluation System for Public Works Building Projects on 15 August nd HKIA Adjudicator Accreditation Programme The training programme would be held in 2 schedules, one on weekday evenings and one on weekends. 2 7. HKIA BIM Seminar Series The first seminar was successfully held on 15 August 2017 (Tuesday). Two members from BIM & IT Committee had presented on the topics of How to migrate to BIM painlessly and effectively and BIM Modeling Workflow BIM Architectural Design and Documentation Primary Tool respectively. Nominations Ms. So Ching and Ms. Rachel Chow were nominated to CIC on 16 June 2017 to represent as the regular representative and the alternate representative respectively in the new Committee on BIM. Mr. Lui Cheuk Ho Ronson and Mr. Wong Chiu Lung Dennis were re-appointed by Hong Kong Housing Society on 14 July 2017 to represent in the Technical Advisory Subcommittee on Hong Kong Quality Building Panel for Voluntary Building Assessment Scheme for the new term of 2 years between 1 July 2017 and 30 June Mr. Hai Tuen Tai Freddie and Mr. Cheung Man Ching Anthony were re-nominated to Development Bureau on 18 July 2017 to be the regular representative and alternate representative respectively in Harbourfront Commission for the new term of office of 2 years between 1 July 2017 and 30 June Mr. Chu Hok Wang Clement was re-appointed by BD on 19 July 2017 for being a member of the Advisory Committee on Barrier Free Access for the new term of office of 2 years between 1 August 2017 and 31 July Mr. Chan Chui Man Truman was nominated to Buildings Department to represent in its Technical Committee on Code of Practice for Site Supervision for the new term of 3 years ending HKIA Third Quarterly General Meeting Honorary Secretary Report 21 September out of 18

3 30 June Mr. Ip Kar Wai Kelvin was nominated to Buildings Department to represent in the ad hoc Working Group on Provision of Safe Access and Facilities for Repair and Maintenance of External Features under APSEC. 2. Local Affairs The following written submissions were delivered by HKIA : Completed questionnaire for Survey on photovoltaic application in Hong Kong to the consultant of by EMSD on 22 June Written submission on Anti-Siphonic Pipe at Sunken Trench by HKIA nominees to BSC/ASPEC to BD on 29 June Written submission on Draft BEAM Plus NB 2.0 to BEAM Society Ltd. on 11 July Written submission on Proposed pedestrian footbridge system in Mongkok to Highways Department on 21 July Written submission on Proposed Boardwalk underneath Island Eastern Corridor delivered to CEDD on 29 July Interim public consultation for Detailed Feasibility Study for Environmental Friendly Linkage System for Kowloon East delivered to CEDD on 11 August Multi-stakeholders consultation on Review of Building (Planning) Regulations delivered to Buildings Department on 18 August Projects Old Town Central Lamppost Design Competition HKIA was one of the supporting organizations for Old Town Central Lamppost Design Competition. The competition was launched by Hong Kong Tourism Board on 1 August Submission of entries has closed on 11 September Transitional Social Housing Project HKIA was invited by Transport and Housing Bureau to participate in the Project aiming at providing transitional social housing units to needy families at an affordable rate through joint community efforts. The Project was being coordinated by Hong Kong Council of Social Service and launched on 19 September Events Planning and Urban Design Committee held a closed-door informal discussion with Planning Department to exchange views and ideas for the Urban Design Study for Wanchai North and North Point Harbourfront Areas on 16 July Lunch meeting with new Secretary for Development and other key personnel of DEVB was held on 28 August Board of Educational Affairs (BEdA) 1. Continuing Return of CPD Declaration Form 2017 Professional Deadline of submission : 30 September 2017 Development As at 24 August 2017, 1,365 members (31%) had submitted their (CPD) CPD Declaration Forms. 4 CPD Research Fund applications (including 1 late application) were received. The Research Fund Vetting Committee which consisted of So Ching, Rosman Wai and Arthur Tong vetted the submissions. With endorsement by Council, the following applications were granted the Research Fund Applicant : Yik Wai Yuen Wilson Research topic : Design with Flow : A Resilient Family House Typology Development in South China Applicant : Poon Kam Yiu Kenneth Research topic : Understanding the current situation of elderly homes in Hong Kong Each of the awarded application will receive a sum of HK$25,000 with 50% funding granted upon successful application and the other 50% funding granted upon completion of research and final approval by the BEdA. Awardees were required to complete the research within 12 months, unless with prior approval by the BEdA. Annual Awards A total of 65 entries were received Judging was held from 17 to 24 June A Finalist Exhibition was being organised to showcase all the finalist projects to the public. Young Architect Award 2016 winning entry, Student Medal 2016 & 2017 awardees works would also be exhibited at the exhibition. New Members Certificate Presentation Ceremony 2017 Date: 18 November 2017 Time: Cocktail: 6:30pm 7:30pm; Dinner: 7:30pm 11:00pm Venue: Chancellor Room, L4, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Wanchai entries were received. Judging was held from 20 to 23 June Teams of 7 finalist designs were interview by 6 jurors in the evening of 23 June winning entries & 2 Special Mention entries were selected. Winning entries would be made into a prototype under the sponsorship by HoneD. The Young Members Committee was working with Merci Media, the PR Partner, Prize Presentation was scheduled for 2 December 2017 at Hysan Place, and exhibition for 3-16 December 2017 at The Lee Gardens 1. In collaboration with the Ebenezer School, a group of volunteer architects designed a 5-sense Christmas Tree, which visually impaired students could enjoy. There would be 2 workshops for students of Ebenezer School to co-build the Christmas Tree with volunteer architects. The 5-sense Christmas Tree would be launched on 3 December 2017 for a Charity Carnival of the School. Held on 22 July candidates who passed the HKIA/ARB Professional Assessment received their HKIA Membership Certificate and ARB Registration Certificate at the Ceremony. 6. HKIA/ARB Professional Assessment Orientation Held on 14 September Over 60 candidates sitting for HKIA/ARB Professional Assessment attended the sharing. Vice President Mr. Felix Li, Past President Ms. Anna Kwong, High-flyers in the past 2 years and Young Members Committee members shared their experience on coping with the examinations with the candidates so as to ease their stress and assist them to plan for their strategy on sitting for the Professional Assessment. 15 Special Projects Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\ Architecture (UABBHK17) The exhibition was sponsored by CSI under Create Hong Kong with a funding amounting to HK$5.3M. The Call for Exhibitors was officially announced on 29 June The deadline for submission of exhibitors proposals was 4 August 2017 and a list of exhibitors would be confirmed by September The proposed exhibition venues of UABBHK2017 include the following: 1. 17 3. The 16 th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition (VB2018) 4. HKIA Cross-Strait Architectural Design Symposium and Awards 2017 The exhibition is organized by HKIA Biennale Foundation and Hong Kong Arts Development Council, with HKIA as Partner. The exhibition is currently seeking funding from CSI under Create Hong Kong with a budget amounting to HK$8.6M. The approval is subject to CSI.
