1 F A C I L I T I E S P L A N N I N G & C O N S T R U C T I O N Planning & Building Schools of Excellence o NORWALK HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC FIELDS AND POSSIBLE STADIUM PROJECT (ARCHITECT: RACHLIN PARTNERS, CONSTRUCTION MANAGER: BALFOUR BEATTY CONSTRUCTION) DSA APPLICATION # Tuesday, June 13, 2017, Facilities, along with the Environmental Consultant (Ninyo and Moore), performed the site walk at Norwalk High School, to mark the boring locations for the underground utility locator in preparation for Preliminary Endangerment Assessment (PEA) Workplan Implementation, which is required as a part of the Department of Toxic Substances Control approval process. Tuesday, 6/13/17 In the week of June 19, 2017, Facilities, along with the Environmental Consultant (Ninyo and Moore), performed the soil sampling at Norwalk High School, as part of the PEA Workplan Implementation. 3 Board Update Page 3 Monday, June 19, 2017, Facilities, along with the Architect (Rachlin Partners) and their electrical engineering team, performed the site walk at Norwalk High School, to gather the information on the existing system on site. o GLENN HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC FIELDS AND POSSIBLE STADIUM PROJECT (ARCHITECT: RACHLIN PARTNERS, CONSTRUCTION MANAGER: BERNARDS) DSA APPLICATION # Environmental Due Diligence At the June 26, 2017 Board meeting, the Board of Education certified the Mitigated Negative Declaration Study Report in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act. Friday, August 25, 2017 Facilities along with our environmental consultant, Ninyo & Moore and the DTSC conducted a public hearing for the final Draft Preliminary Environmental Assessment (PEA) report. o LA MIRADA HIGH SCHOOL GYM & LOCKER RM BLDGS MODERNIZATION & EXPANSION (ARCHITECT: DLR GROUP, CONSTRUCTION MANAGER: BALFOUR BEATTY CONSTRUCTION) Wednesday, June 14, 2017, Facilities met with the Architect (DLR Group) and Construction Manager (Balfour Beatty), to review the value engineering suggestions and determine next steps for each value engineering item being presented by the design team. Thursday, June 15, 2017, Facilities met with the Stakeholders at La Mirada High School, to fine-tune the details of the use and the locker requirements for the team rooms in the Gymnasium and Locker Room Buildings. Thursday, August 3, 2017, Facilities, along with the Construction Manager (Balfour Beatty) performed a site walk at La Mirada High School, to check the existing conditions of the Gymnasium and Locker Room Buildings. Thursday, 8/3/17 SITE VISIT OF GYM & LOCKER ROOM BUILDINGS AT LA MIRADA HS Wednesday, August 9, 2017, Facilities met with the Stakeholders at La Mirada High School, to discuss the possible value engineering options being discussed. The comments from the Stakeholders were shared with the design team to be incorporated into the design.

4 Board Update Page 4 o LA MIRADA HIGH SCHOOL INTERIM PE LOCKER BUILDINGS (ARCHITECT: WESTGROUP DESIGN) Thursday, June 15, 2017, Facilities, along with the Architect (Westgroup), met with the Stakeholders at La Mirada High School to gather the Stakeholder s input for the Interim Locker Building Project. The project is scheduled to be submitted to the Division of State Architect for Over-The-Counter plan check in late September On Friday, June 23, 2017 and on Monday, June 26, 2017, Facilities joined the Architect (Westgroup), and the Civil Engineer (FPL), to perform a site walk-through of the potential building sites for the interim PE locker buildings. The team checked the existing accessibility, available utilities, and the grading of the site to determine the exact building location. Friday, 6/23/17 INTERIM PE LOCKER AT LA MIRADA HS Monday, 6/26/17 o LA MIRADA HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUS-WIDE RENOVATION OF HARD/SOFT SCAPE (ARCHITECT: NAC ARCHTIECTURE)

5 Board Update Page 5 Thursday, June 29, 2017, Facilities, along with the Architect (NAC Architecture) and their Landscape Architect (SALT), met with the Stakeholders to review the schematic design and objectives of the project based on Stakeholder s input received at the previous Stakeholder meeting. Thursday, 6/29/17 Friday, July 21, 2017, Facilities, along with the Landscape Architect (SALT), met with the M&O Department, to discuss the irrigation system issues at La Mirada High School with the design team. The meeting was followed by the site walk at La Mirada High School, where the landscape architect obtained the detailed information from the site irrigation personnel regarding the existing conditions of the irrigation system at different parts of the campus. 6 Board Update Page 6 O BENTON MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUS-WIDE RENOVATION W/ ACCESSORY STRUCTURES PROJECT (ARCHITECT: DLR GROUP, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT: LYNN CAPOUYA INC, CONSTRUCTION MANAGER: CUMMING) DSA APPLICATION # Status: DSA Approve / Bidding Phase Anticipated Construction Start Date: Fall 2017 Project drawings and specifications have been prepared for bidding this month. Thursday, June 22, the Contractor performed the utilities disconnect at the leased portable restroom building in preparation for its return to the portable building manufacturer.

8 Board Update Page 8 O CORVALLIS MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUS-WIDE RENOVATION W/ ACCESSORY STRUCTURES PROJECT (ARCHITECT: DLR GROUP, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT: LYNN CAPOUYA INC, CONSTRUCTION MANAGER: CUMMING) DSA APPLICATION # Status: DSA Approved / Project Bidding Phase Anticipated Construction Start Date: Fall 2017 Project drawings and specifications have been prepared for bidding this month. o MORRISON ES AND LOS ALISOS MS HVAC/MODERNIZATION OF ADMIN. & MPR BUILDINGS PROJECTS (ARCHITECT: RACHLIN PARTNERS, CONSTRUCTION MANAGER: BERNARDS) DSA APPLICATION # & # Status: The project received approval from the Division of the State Architect O GARDENHILL ES AND HUTCHINSON MS HVAC/MODERNIZATION OF ADMIN. & MPR BUILDINGS PROJECTS (ARCHITECT: DLR GROUP, CONSTRUCTION MANAGER: BALFOUR BEATTY CONSTRUCTION) DSA APPLICATION # & # Status: Plan Check Review - Division of the State Architect. Wednesday, June 14, 2017, Facilities, along with the M&O and ITS Departments, met with the Architect (DLR Group) and Construction Manager (Balfour Beatty) to provide the constructability review comments to the 90% Construction Documents submitted by the Architect. The design team is incorporating the comments received from the meeting. The project is currently undergoing a plancheck review under the Division of State Architect, the state regulatory agency. Wednesday, June 28, 2017, Facilities met with the Architect (DLR Group) and Construction Manager (Balfour Beatty), to review the value engineering suggestions and determine next steps for each value engineering item being presented by the design team. Following the meeting, the Construction Manager (Balfour Beatty) performed a site walk to check the existing condition. o MEASURE G AND S CITIZENS OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE MEETING Tuesday, June 27, 2017, the Facilities conducted the Measure G and S Citizens Oversight Committee Meeting at La Mirada High School. The meeting was followed by the site walk of the existing Gymnasium and Locker Room Buildings.

9 Board Update Page 9 MEASURE G AND S CITIZENS OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE MEETING o DULLES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KINDERGARTEN PLAYGROUND RENOVATION (ARCHITECT: DOUGHERTY ARCHITECTS) DSA APPLICATION # Bids for the Dulles Elementary Playground Project were opened on August 3, 2017 and a recommendation has been made to award the project to the contractor at the August 21, 2017 Board meeting. Construction is scheduled to start in early September and to be completed by the end of October. o ESCALONA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PLAYGROUND ADDITION (ARCHITECT: DOUGHERTY ARCHITECTS) DSA APPLICATION # Bids for the Escalona Elementary Playground Project were opened on August 3, 2017 and a recommendation has been made to award the project to the contractor at the August 21, 2017 Board meeting. Construction is scheduled to start in early September and to be completed by the end of October. o SANCHEZ ES PLAYGROUND ADDITION AND KINDERGARTEN PLAYGROUND RENOVATION (ARCHITECT: DOUGHERTY ARCHITECTS) DSA APPLICATION # Status: Construction

10 Board Update Page 10 Construction started on Thursday, July 6, 2017 and the project is 95% complete. Both the playground in the K-Yard and the addition to the main yard was open in time for the first day of school. The contractor will be returning to install updated gates which were part of an accessibility upgrade. KINDERGARTEN YARD KINDERGARTEN YARD MAIN YARD

12 Board Update Page 12 o LOS COYOTES MIDDLE SCHOOL ELECTRONIC MARQUEE PROJECT (ARCHITECT: DONALD KROTEE PARTNERSHIP) DSA APPLICATION # Status: Under Construction Demolition of existing monument sign and completion of pole in preparation of new electronic marquee. o LA MIRADA HIGH SCHOOL TEAM PORTABLE BUILDING REPLACEMENT PROJECTS (ARCHITECT: WESTGROUP DESIGNS) Monday, June 26, 2017, the Facilities conducted a mandatory pre-bid job walk with the prospective bidders at La Mirada High School. The Purchasing Department has conducted a bid opening on Monday, July 17, 2017, and the bid was awarded to R. Jensen Co. Inc. at the Board of Education Meeting on Monday, August 7, Next Steps: The Pre-Construction Meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, August 23, 2017, to introduce the team, and discuss the logistics and communication protocol during construction, which is scheduled to start in September 2017.

13 Board Update Page 13 Monday, 6/26/17 TEAM PORTABLE BUILDING REPLACEMENT AT LA MIRADA HS o LA MIRADA HS SYNTHETIC TURF SPORT FIELD AND TRACK REPLACEMENT PROJECT (ARCHITECT: TBD) Monday, August 7, 2017, Facilities met with the Geotechnical Engineer (Converse Consultants) to mark-up the boring locations for the percolation testing. On Wednesday, August 9, 2017, Facilities met with the synthetic turf vendor FieldTurf to open the (2) - 3 x 3 areas of the field, in preparation of the percolation testing. On Friday, August 11, 2017, Facilities, along with Converse Consultants, conducted a percolation testing to check the permeability rate of the existing soil under the football field. On Friday, August 18, 2017, FieldTurf patched the opened turf back to its original condition. Wednesday, 8/9/17 Monday, 8/7/17

14 Board Update Page 14 o NORWALK HS CTE CULINARY ARTS CLASSROOM CONVERSION (ARCHITECT: RACHLIN PARTNERS) On the following three days, Monday, June 19, 2017, Thursday, June 29, 2017, and August 7, 2017, Facilities, along with the Architect Rachlin Partners and their engineering team, performed the site walk at Norwalk High School, to gather the information on the existing system on site. 15 Board Update Page 15 Recently completed and upcoming projects include: o HUTCHINSON MIDDLE SCHOOL RENNOVATION OF PORTABLES AND CLASSROOM CONVERSION UPGRADES TO THREE PORTABLE CLASSROOMS AND CONVERSION OF BOOK STORAGE ROOM To accommodate the growing student population, two rooms were recently converted into classrooms. Additional power, data and interior work was completed to convert the space into a classroom.

16 Board Update Page 16 The ASB room was also converted into a classroom with the addition of A/C units and additional interior upgrades to provide additional teaching space. o BENTON MIDDLE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION OFFICE SWINGING GATE A Site Modification Request was received from the site to install a barrier to help control access into the reception area in the administration office. On August 3 rd 2017 a pony wall with a swinging gate was installed.

17 Board Update Page 17 Since our last report, Facilities Staff, in collaboration with our consultants, have certified one (1) project through the Division of the State Architect (DSA). School Site included: o Foster Road & Corvallis ( ) Project completed in 2000 We currently have two (2) projects left to certify, one of which is under review at DSA. o Various Sites ( ) Project completed in 2001 o Various Sites ( ) Project completed in 2001 Facilities Staff continue to work toward having the final project certified by the DSA Office. o Nuffer Elementary School RETURN OF THREE (3) LEASED PORTABLE CLASSROOMS It was determined that three (3) portable classrooms made up of seven leased units were no longer needed at Nuffer Elementary for capacity. During the week of June 7, 2017, contractors arrived to disconnect the utilities and began the demolition needed for the return. A crane was brought out to the site to remove the buildings and stage them for transportation. Once the buildings were removed the work began to fill the hole left behind and repair the blacktop in

Facilities Staff would like to thank the Principal and Lead Custodian for their patience over the summer break. o La Mirada High School CARPET REPLACEMENT IN SIX (6) LEASED PORTABLES Monday, June 19, 2017, contractors were sent out to replace the carpet in six (6) portable buildings at La Mirada High School.

19 Board Update Page 19 o Dolland Elementary School CARPET REPAIR AND PAINT IN SIX (6) LEASED PORTABLES Friday, June 23, 2017, contractors were sent out to repair the carpet in six (6) portable classrooms. The exterior door along with the ramps & railing was also painted as requested by the Principal. o Los Alisos Middle School CARPET REPAIR IN TWELVE (12) LEASED PORTABLE BUILDINGS During the week of June 21, 2017 contractors repaired the carpet in twelve (12) leased portables at Los Alisos Middle School. o Gardenhill Elementary School CARPET REPLACEMENT IN LEASED PORTABLE BUILDING Thursday, June 22, 2017, contractors were sent to Gardenhill Elementary to replace the carpet in the leased portable building that is used for the music program.
