In 1988, MCEDC was officiay incorporated as a non-profit organization after two years of a pubic-private joint effort to attract new businesses to Medina County. One of the major tasks faced eary on by this new county-wide economic deveopment organization was to bring about more coaboration within the county s poitica subdivisions, which incuded 17 townships, three cities, six viages, and the County itsef. Thirty years ater, I can proudy say that this mission has been accompished, and together, our economic deveopment team has served an integra roe in much of the growth and deveopment of Medina County. Looking forward to another fantastic thirty years! Industry giants such as RPM Internationa, MTD Products, and Westfied Insurance ca Medina County home for their goba headquarters, whie other eading industries have positioned division operations here. Internationa business attraction efforts have resuted in ocations by Swiss and Japanese-owned manufacturers serving the automobie industry. Medina County has been the fastest growing county in Northern Ohio for the past three decades, due to an exceent oca education system, a diverse business base, and historicay ow unempoyment rate. Communities in Medina County are known for their quaity of ife designations, incuding Money Magazine s Top 100 Paces to Live and Ohio Magazine s Best Hometown in Ohio. Education is a priority in Medina County. Unique among Ohio s 88 counties, Medina County uses saes tax proceeds to fund capita improvements in oca schoo districts. The County has aso supported the construction of two university centers since Workforce deveopment needs are now being met in new branch ocations of the University of Akron and Cuyahoga Community Coege. Economic deveopment toos which incude financing and property tax abatements have been enhanced by a major pubic infrastructure commitment from the Medina County Port Authority, which recenty competed constructing a 151-mie fiber optic ring to meet industry s increasing need for abundant broadband access. 3 Economic Growth in Medina County is fueed by MCEDC s Outreach In 2015 we aunched a new strategic pan. Under our three year pan we have: Over the past 20 years (from ), MCEDC assisted companies to create 7,300 new jobs and to invest biion in new capita. Capita investment from projects invoving MCEDC in the past five years represent 51% of the tota from two decades.
