3 photo: Trevor Patt photo: Trevor Patt Philharmonie De Paris Avenue Jean Jaurès Paris Designed by Jean Nouvel and inaugurated on 14 January 2015, the Philharmonie 1 is a mineral building with innovative forms, rising up like a hill within the Parc de la Villette The aluminium swirls wrapped tightly around the concert hall contrast with the rest of its matt exterior The exterior façade covering is composed of 340,000 birds, divided into seven different shapes and four shades ranging from light grey to black More than 200,000 birds in aluminum sheeting are installed on the facades' to symbolize a grand take-off The rooftop, 37 meters high, will be in the near term open to the public, visitors would have an expansive view of the city blending into the suburbs photo: Trevor Patt Jean Nouvel archi_traveler 3

7 photo: Luc Boegly photo: Luc Boegly Tetris rue du Nord Paris The project is part of an urban program aimed at regenerating underprivileged neighbourhoods in Northern Paris Nine residences and three artists' studios were built on three narrow plots The project was shaped by our intention to stay in harmony with the neighbourhood's scale and density while maximizing space and daylight available to future residents Perfect alignment with existing buildings and identical façade treatment erases the difference between the old and the new The «commonplace» exterior is balanced by the singularity of living rooms Each of the 3 buildings has one apartment per floor The staggered arrangement of day and night zones allows for the difference in ceiling heights: 3,40 m for the living room and 2,60 for the bedroom Each individual residence is marked by a large timber-framed bow window highlighting the increased height of double-aspect living rooms The principle equally applies to apartments and atéliers, as nowadays home and workspace tend to merge m² General consultant Moussafir es SIBAT SIEMP MAA photo: Luc Boegly 7

9 photo: Luc Boegly photo: Luc Boegly Daunay housing Impasse Daunay Paris This large block of 8 flats merges smoothly into the heterogeneity of the Impasse Daunay cul-de-sac Facing the street, the textured glass skin covering the facades pays discreet homage to the glass walls of the artists studios in this Père Lachaise neighbourhood The choice of glass, used here for the facade covering, parapets, transparent partitions for common areas or simply as windows, has an aesthetic appeal in its uniformity of material and stark simplicity in keeping with the project s general low key approach: just 8 housing units in a little cul-de-sac On the courtyard side, the retified pine cladding extends the ambiance of the neighbouring condominium s garden The orange colour of the communal areas has the effect of highlighting the glass s dominant hard characteristic The systematic nature of this monochrome look is counter-balanced by the vivid brightness of the common areas In the street, the colour is relatively unobtrusive and is visible only in the entrance photo: Luc Boegly Project is not public! 2009 Atelier du Pont MI_MOA 9
