A former director on AIA Honolulu s board, director for the Hawaii Architecture foundation board, and chair of the AIA s Young Architects Forum, Chris has consistently championed the interests of emerging professionals. This May, Chris was honored by the AIA with a Young Architects Award. Statement: One of the biggest challenges we have as architects is staying relevant. Vital to overcoming this challenge is extending our services beyond design and serving as trusted advisors to our clients. My service to the AIA has afforded first-hand knowledge of the organization s influence within the community. If elected, I hope to enhance AIA s already successful programs and services, grow and nurture its core initiatives, and strengthen its relationships with other professional organizations. It s only through collaboration and authenticity that we can elevate the design profession. Position: Treasurer, (One Candidate) Kurt Mitchell, AIA Qualifications: Kurt Mitchell, AIA is currently the Managing Principal of RIM Hawaii, LLC. He has also been the President/CEO of KHMA and has 40 years of experience in architecture. A graduate of the University of Oregon, he has led firms here and in California. Statement: When I came onto the Board in 2014, I indicated that we needed to raise the value and understanding that we as architects bring to the community. I am still working on it and there is a lot more that needs to be done. As professionals like yourself, I need to see that the AIA is doing what they can to help us raise that awareness. I m running for Treasurer to see how that can strategically happen. The outgoing Treasurer, has done a fantastic job in keeping the Chapter updated towards where we are. We need to continue that and up the game so that the AIA can be a value to you and the community. Page 5
