SPEAKERS Virginia Tanzmann, FAIA, LEED AP Vice President, Parsons Brinckerhoff Virginia Tanzmann, Parsons Brinckerhoff s West Region Manager of the Architecture and Buildings Technical Excellence Center, has carried direct profit/loss responsibility for the design of more than $2.4 billion in new, renovation and repair construction. She is experienced in specially funded programs, including large transportation projects, civic projects, seismic repairs, public school and California University bond-funded projects, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility, medical facilities, affordable and specialized housing, and retail and restaurant design. She is an extensively experienced architect with expertise in all phases of work, including master planning, programming and pre-design, full design and documentation, construction contract administration, project closeout, and post-construction activities. She has also performed technical reviews, constructability reviews, quality control, and value engineering for projects. Her experience includes several design-build projects. She has a long-standing sustainable design orientation to her work, and her team is currently working on two projects planning to apply for LEED certification. Virginia has taught environmental design, professional practice, and facility programming at the university level. Virginia founded her own architectural practice and led it for twenty years, building the firm to a team of 26. The firm was repeatedly named one of the 100 Largest Woman-Owned Businesses by the LA Business Journal. Since closing The Tanzmann Associates, she has served in a management position in several settings, leading a team of 45 architects and engineers at a large engineering firm, leading a university department charged with implementing a time-sensitive state funding program, and, at Parsons Brinckerhoff, heading the Architecture and Buildings Technical Excellence Center for the West. She believes the key to successful management is bringing together all the disparate parts that together make a unified whole - people and relationships, budget, schedule, and technical issues - in a way that optimizes competing priorities by focusing on desired outcomes.

3 4 of 7 3/9/ :15 PM Adele Chang, AIA Principal, Lim Chang Rohling & Associates Adele Chang is the founding principal of Lim Chang Rohling and Associates, an architecture and planning firm located in Pasadena. Her 32 years of practice include a broad spectrum of project types, ranging from high rise commercial / residential / mixed use complexes, to mid to high density housing and mixed-use developments, to the full range of markets of single family communities for developments nationally and internationally. Her firm s work also includes below-market-rate housing and sustainable communities. Her versatile design ability and sensitivity to each project s goals and objectives make her a valuable addition to any design team. Adele received her professional education from the University of Washington and Cal. Poly., Pomona. Prior to starting her own practice, she was an associate partner and senior project designer at the firm of McLarand Vasquez and Partners. She had served on the Design Review Committee for the City of San Marino and had also served as a judge for many regional and national building industry awards programs, including PCBC s Gold Nugget Awards, Builder s Choice and Residential Architect. She is sought after as a speaker for BIS, PCBC, as well as BIA meetings on design trends in housing. Alla Kazovsky, Architect Alternative Practitioner, Alla Kazovsky Architects Alla Kazovsky is an internationally-known creativity expert -- award-winning architect and creativity coach. For over 20 years she has been connecting her clients to their dreams. In 1978 Kazovsky left the Soviet Union as a political refugee. Upon coming to America, she finished high school, enrolled in USC's School of Architecture, and pursued graduate studies at Columbia University in New York, where she received her Master of Science degree in Architecture and Urban Design. This architectural education led Kazovsky to positions with prominent New York City and Los Angeles firms. Once Kazovsky became a mother, her life-long mission of lending creative space and aspirations to children crystallized. This gave her a visceral knowledge of the importance for encouraging creative expression. Alla invented and directed Children's Architecture Workshops held at SCI-Arc (Southern California Institute of Architecture). In addition, she has been invited to design curricula and teach workshops at various museums, such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and Skirball Cultural Center. Kazovsky's unique site-specific Discovery Carts helped thousands of families to gain greater understanding and enjoyment of The Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens. Kazovsky was a pioneer more than a decade ago when she introduced her KidPlay collection of Modern children's furnishings. As an award-winning designer, HGTV has created a segment about Kazovsky s work in their series Dream Builders. Additionally, Kazovsky has been writing LIVE BY DESIGN: How Architects (and Their Buildings) Can Inspire Us -- the first book of its kind to marry architecture and self-help. The premise is to connect the experience of life construction with the design process architects employ to create great buildings. Alla believes that anyone can come up with brilliant ways to work around their own life s challenges if they engage the architect within.

4 5 of 7 3/9/ :15 PM Ginna Nguyen Emerging Professional, Gonzalez Goodale Architects Ginna Claire Nguyen has a diverse portfolio of experiences, ranging from architectural constructions, art and media exhibits, printed publications and small business management. Ms. Nguyen received a Bachelor s degree in Studio Art from Pepperdine University and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She has volunteered on building projects in Mexico and India, and in 2008, received the Susan Cromwell Coslett Traveling Fellowship. As a member of the design team Gathering, she collaboratively conceived and fabricated award-winning pavilions in two international competitions: Sukkah City 2010 in New York City and Kobe Biennale 2011 in Kobe, Japan. Ms. Nguyen is currently an Architectural Designer at Gonzalez Goodale Architects in Pasadena, California, where her efforts are focused on affordable and special needs housing. Ms. Nguyen also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Architecture for Pasadena City College. Additionally, she is a member of the Urasenke Tankokai Los Angeles Association, actively studying and promoting the Japanese tea ceremony Chanoyu. She is also a founding Director and the acting Secretary of The Honoring Character Foundation. MODERATOR Jessica Mack, LEED AP Manager, New Construction Services, Southern California Edison Jessica Mack is the manager of Southern California Edison s New Construction Services. The group oversees the implementation of all new construction energy efficiency and demand response programs, including overall accountability for program operations and achievement of demand side management goals. Her role also encompasses educating building owners, architects, engineers, and developers about high performance building design and construction best practices. She holds a B.A in architecture with an emphasis on environmental design and construction management from the University of Southern California. Jessica is the current board vice-chair for the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) providing leadership, strategic guidance and member engagement. No refunds for cancellations will be given after that time. No refunds shall be issued for no-shows to the class. Registration may be transferred to another individual. AIAPF reserves the right to cancel any class where the minimum number of pre-registration registrants is not met. If such a cancellation occurs, registrants will be notified and given the opportunity to select an alternate and comparable class to attend. In the event such an alternate and comparable class is not available, then the registration fees will be refunded as appropriate.
