Wally Dickman Benefit Workin 4 Wally Committee Dear Friends: On January 7, 2007, our dear friend Wally Dickman, a lifelong resident of Canaryville, suffered a severe stroke which was followed by several surgeries, including a quadruple bypass operation. As a result, Wally has been unable to work for the past 2 years, causing financial hardship for him and his wife. In an effort to ease the financial burden that has burdened Wally and his wife Cathy, friends and family have united together to raise money with a friendship party. Wally, a City of Chicago carpenter with the Carpenters Union, Local 13, for 22 years, has always been the primary caretaker of his family. Wally has always had a passion for old trucks and road trips on his Harley. Unfortunately, this sudden event caused damage to his brain which has caused him to lose function of his right arm and walk at a slow pace, resulting in Wally needing full time care. Cathy, his wife of 35 years, has become his primary caretaker, taking him to and from doctor appointments and therapy. In addition, she has taken on all the everyday responsibilities of running a household. Because Wally needs full time care, Cathy is unable to work. As you can imagine, living as and taking care of a stroke victim can be, in and of itself, a very stressful and painful time. Wally continues to go to therapy in hopes to gain the strength needed to get full function of his arm and leg. He continues to be monitored by his doctors and is on several medications to assist in preventing further strokes or heart damage. In an attempt to relieve some of the stress from Wally and Cathy, their friends and family are hosting a benefit, "Workin' 4 Wally," on Saturday, August 29th, 2009 from 5:00-10:00 p.m. at De La Salle High School, 3434 South Michigan Ave. We, the committee, are seeking your help and prayers. Any donation, gift certificates, silent auction items, beverages, merchandise raffles prizes or monetary donations would be greatly appreciated. Please visit our website at webs.com for further information on ways you can help Wally and his family. You may also contact any committee member. Please send any donations to Workin' 4 Wally, c/o Pat & Denny Stack, 553 West 42nd Place, Chicago, IL. Any donation can make a difference. Thank you for your support and generosity. Sincere thanks from the Workin' 4 Wally Committee. Direct Monetary donations can be forwarded to: Charter One Bank c/o Working' 4 Wally, 600 West 42nd Street, Chicago, IL. 6 THE MAN WHO VERTISES HIS BUSINESS HAS ONE Page 6 - BRIDGEPORT NEWS ROSE PANTANO TO MY LOVELY WIFE, ROSE It s been one long, sad and lonely year without you. I miss you so much but as I told you so many times, you will always be the one I love... and that will never change. So until we meet again, and we will, rest in peace Sweetheart. TONY JACKIE MOORE IN LOVING MEMORY STILL MISSING YOU. MOM St. Jerome School May Be The Best Kept Secret in Chicago's Bridgeport Neighborhood! Since its founding in 1922, St. Jerome Catholic School at 2801 S. Princeton in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood has had the distinct privilege of educating several generations of families from the area. Now, as the Bridgeport area is experiencing expansion in the form of increased real estate development, the school is experiencing new growth as well. Along with its kindergarten through eighth grade classes St. Jerome also offers 3 and 4 year old half day pre-school programs with the option of an all day 4 year old program. These pre-school programs offer our students a great jump start to their education. Much of the school s growth and vitality can be attributed to the support and dedication of its principal, teachers and parents to provide the best education for our children. We are very excited about the new additions to our curriculum for the upcoming school year. These additions include the expansion of our technology program through the installation of "Promethean Interactive Whiteboards" in each classroom. These whiteboards are a powerful teaching tool that transform our classrooms into a truly interactive learning environment. St. Jerome is the only school in Bridgeport that currently offers this state of the art technology. St. Jerome's air-conditioned classrooms are equipped with 42" flat-screen televisions, cable access to over 50 educational channels, hard wired and WIFI internet access, new desktop computers for each class and new computers for our computer lab. Additional curriculum advancements include new reading and math textbooks, classroom libraries, and an online grading system in which parents can monitor their child's academic progress at any time. "These new additions significantly enhance our student's educational experiences, which show in our Terra Nova Test scores, which are consistently above the national average," said Principal Mr. Trumblay. St. Jerome School takes great pride in its commitment to providing a quality education and welcomes you to visit and see firsthand everything they have to offer your child.
