October 2013 End of Season Wrap Up Tigers A special mention must be made of our Tigers winning the A Grade Grand Final for the first time in 40 years!

The team is now aiming for a repeat performance in 2014 Kitcats This season was a first for 6 of the 8 Kitcat players.

Debbie and Kimberley were great coaches over the season helping the girls grow in their TBall skills. The girls all improved so much over the season.

Special Cats Well, what a Season we had to go from winning no games last year to Open C Reserve White Premiers was absolutely amazing.

1 October 2013 End of Season Wrap Up Tigers A special mention must be made of our Tigers winning the A Grade Grand Final for the first time in 40 years! Congratulations to JB and Stuart Bruce on coaching this group of talented players to their historic victory. The team is now aiming for a repeat performance in 2014 Kitcats This season was a first for 6 of the 8 Kitcat players. Eliza and Grace led the way for the other girls who learnt fast. We trained with the Alicats which was always fun and tiring. Thanks Ali. Debbie and Kimberley were great coaches over the season helping the girls grow in their TBall skills. The girls all improved so much over the season. Well done Jean, Noam, Hannah, Jamie Lee, Natalie and Kate. We hope to see you all return next year. We want to thank everyone in the Club for their support over the past 2 years. You have all been so generous in sharing your knowledge we have achieved so much and we know we can reach even greater heights. We laugh, we cry, we scream and shout and we have so much fun it almost shouldn t be legal. Also, big thanks to the ABC who played We are the Champions by Queen for us and are ready to follow us again next year. Look forward to seeing everyone again next Season

2 Pumas The Pumas started the season welcoming four new players to the team Bec Steinert, Kat Delavere, Kylie Henry & Vanessa Calvert and a big welcome back to Hanna Morris who returned partway through the season from her overseas studies. The first week we had a loss against the new team of the grade who all seemed way too young to be that good, we made a decision that week that we didn't particularly like to lose, so we only lost 2 games after that (unfortunately one was the Grand Final). A love for Mike (the MIKEN) was found by most of the team especially when it helped hit the ball over the cricket pitch for some fantastic home runs. Thanks to Sue Hamilton for giving us her time and support through the season. Wildcats This team of only 9 girls had a fantastic softball season The team spirit, sportsmanship & commitment of these girls showing up at all their games (bar a few) as well as every training was nothing short of outstanding. They all deserve to be mentioned: Gabby Chan, Isabel Hanson, Millie Green, Zoe Lusted, Kate Pierce, Chelsea Sefton, Nikita Skyba, Tarni Stepto and Claire Zillman Fantastically Coached by JB and assisted by Stuart Bruce - who where both fully committed to this team week in week out! Scored by Sonia Godfrey Chan as well as Carol Lusted & Maddy Chan - who all give so much of their time to Wahroonga softball club. It was an absolute pleasure to manage them They lost their second semi final to the better team of Killara on the day. Congratulations on such a successful season Wildcats. You made us proud! Bobcats What an exciting game. It's was close the whole game. Killara got off to a great start scoring 2 runs but we followed up with 2 runs of our own. That's how the game went, they scored runs then we scored runs. A turning point was Zoe's individual double play. It's was a beautiful hit line drive which was caught & lucky Shalea was screaming at her to play her base. Bree pitched fantastic & had 2 triple base hits. It was everything a grand final should be and more. Everyone played fantastic all year and we had a great season. Thanks to Paul & Corey for coaching these great girls... Cubs The Wahroonga Cubs Modball Team prevailed in an exciting match to win their Grand Final against the Killara Kookaburras Finishing 3 rd at the end of the minor round, the Cubs showed great spirit to beat second placed St Ives in the Preliminary final followed by Killara in the Grand Final. Over the course of the season all of the 12 girls have improved out of sight in both their batting and fielding thanks to a fantastic coaching effort provided by Fran Higinbotham and Tim Roberts. Well done girls! Lynx What a fantastic season the Lynx had making it to the Grand Finals. Our coaches Sue and Kristy were very proud of their team and achievements. Requests were made frequently for Division 2 play ups, the girls volunteered gratefully whenever asked. Our Lynx players are a group of cheerful, enthusiastic and dedicated players. Each player showed their strengths which ultimately saw our team get through to the Grand Finals. Thanks to all the parents for their support and encouragement this season - I know the girls loved having you all on the sidelines each week supporting them.

3 Presidents Report from the 2013 Presentation Evening As the season comes to an end it s wonderful to see so many of Wahroonga s teams featuring strongly in the final series across the junior and open grades. Eleven teams are playing in the Grand Finals this year! A Grade A1 B2 C Cres Cres Div2 Div3 Div4 Teeball 1 Teeball 1 Tigers Pumas Panthers Lions Ferals Special Cats Bobcats Lynx Cubs Alicats Kitcats McDonald s St Ives continued as Wahroonga s major sponsor in Thank you very much to Sam and Michelle Alvaro for McDonald s St Ives support. Several of our young pitchers and catchers received specialist coaching from Jim Smith this season. The coaching programme has now run for a number of years and has helped to develop the capability of Wahroonga s aspiring young pitchers and catchers. Wahroonga ran the Doug Hunter Modball Gala day early in the season. Six teams from Wahroonga, St Ives, Kissing Point, Stealers and Thornleigh played a round robin competition. A combined team from the Wahroonga Lynx and Cubs won the Doug Hunter trophy. So, Wahroonga will have the honour of hosting this competition again next year. Last year was the Special Cats first season at Wahroonga. The Special Cats is a mixed team of special needs athletes and their parents. They play in the Open C reserve grade. Long time Wahroonga player Mel Eustace plays for the Special Cats. In this their second season they have become a force to be reckoned with and made the grand final in their division! Congratulations Special Cats! You are an inspiration to all of us. Many Wahroonga players have been selected to play in North Shore representative and development teams. It s good to see that so many of our players keen to take their softball to the next level. We also have several players that played representative softball at State, national and international levels. These are significant sporting achievements and it is great to see Wahroonga players participating at the elite level. I had the pleasure of attending North Shore Softball Association s 50 th anniversary dinner last weekend. It was a chance to celebrate the success and reflect on the history of North Shore.

4 I had the pleasure of attending North Shore Softball Association s 50 th anniversary dinner last weekend. It was a chance to celebrate the success and reflect on the history of North Shore. The resounding theme of the evening was; North Shore has great spirit, purpose and people with a strong passion for the sport of softball. Wahroonga Softball Club shares these values. Congratulations and many thanks to Sue Hamilton and the 50 th Anniversary organising committee, it was a great evening. Our coaches have a love for the game and they are committed to helping our players improve and achieve their goals. We also encourage parents to be involved as coaches, scorers, managers and umpires. It is important that our club promotes involvement in these non-playing roles to our members. We need to continue developing new talent to ensure the future strength of our club, and the North Shore softball association. So don t just be a spectator, please get involved. Membership numbers were up slightly on We had a total of 180 players registered this year. Wahroonga fielded nine teams in the morning junior grades and nine teams in the open afternoon grades. This year we introduced online registrations for players and officials. This has simplified registrations and payments and improved the accuracy of player registration data. Credit card payments can now be accepted using online registration. Feedback on this system has been positive and we will continue to use online registrations in I would like to thank all our coaches, officials and the committee. I hope that everyone enjoyed the season and look forward to seeing you back again next year. Andrew Cooper President Wahroonga Softball Club Wahroonga s Sue Hamilton honoured with Service Awards At the 2012/2013 Softball NSW Awards Dinner North Shore Life Member and Wahroonga stalwart Sue Hamilton was doubly honoured with a Service to Softball Award from Softball Australia and Softball NSW. Sue's only comment after the shock wore off was to say that she was truely humbled.

This is an encouragement award presented to a Div 2 or Div 3 player North Shore Winners Three Wahroonga players received North Shore perpetual awards on Grand finals day: Bella Serhan was a joint winner of the Heather McCann MVP Trophy. This is awarded to the player who earns the most points MVP point in the morning grades. JB, Rachel Lack, Lauren Tapp, Mikaela Mahony and Kaia Parnaby, receiving the Presidents Trophy from Andrew Cooper Ashleigh Bruce received the John Mason Trophy, which is awarded to the highest achieving A grade player. Ashleigh had 19 at bats including 6 hits, 2 singles, 3 triples and 1 home run. Katrina Bulmer was awarded the May Mansell Umpires Trophy, it is awarded to someone who has made a major contribution to umpiring. Andrew Cooper was jointly awarded the Mike Jones Trophy, which is awarded to someone who has made a valuable contribution to their club. Congratulations to Bella, Katrina and Andrew.
