6 Erwin Building Kischova Prague House Erwin, which filled an empty corner site, is reviving the corner and makes it more attractive The House accepts the height of surrounding buildings and highlights the corner by shaping its volume The facade is divided into horizontal strips filled with window openings and façade cladding panels The underground floor is designed under the whole area of the courtyard and its roof is made as a green chill out area Thus provides the view from flats to calm greenery The facade is made up of titanium-zinc panels and horizontal strips The window openings on the facade are alternating with the plastered fillings and titanium-zinc panels Project is public! 2012 QARTA Architektura Nazar 6

7 Cooperative House Elisky Krasnohorske 1037/ Prague Built during the "second wave" of Cubism, after World War I, the Cooperative Houses - once a Teacher's Union, now an upscale residential block in Prague's tony Jewish quarter - have a playfully colorful façade, atypical of the monochromatic Czech Cubist style Project is public! 1921 Otakar Novotny Nazar 7

8 photo: Marek Novotný Villa Charles Terronská 200/ Prague The site is located in Prague 6 Bubenec, on the street of Charles De Gaulle The definition of open spaces and distances from surrounding homes is designed, so that these spaces were equally placed and thus preserve as adequate privacy for residents of existing homes and for future residents of the proposed new building The house is divided into two volumes (the branches of "L" shape), which are separated by a common communication kernel The first volume is airy and movable The facade is made of sliding wooden sunshades and thanks to them may constantly change The second volume is contrary solid, firm, and is made of sand stone The proposed building is five floors high with basement Project is public! 2012 QARTA Architektura Nazar 8

9 Kolbenova Metro Station Kolbenova Prague The aim of the brief was to design this metro station vestibule into an existing brutal concrete structure built as a pedestal for an eight-floor building The site is placed in an former industrial outskirt of Prague, freestanding factory and solitaire warehouse urban area, settled in the beginning of 20th century The intention of careful recycling the former structure led to the decision not to touch the existing concrete construction at all The architects wrapped it in a light artificial skin, consisting partly of glass, partly of ethernite boards and steel mesh - like a porous skin the façade opens wherever the function needs Strictly used lightweight partitions avoid any confrontation with the mass of the concrete The design also prepared all infrastructure and facilities for future extension The public space of the entrance vestibule detaches from the service background with a reflective metal wall with stainless steel strips surface that mirrors the street traffic Project is public! 2003 DUM Architekti Nazar 9

11 photo: ml_m photo: ml_m Main Point Karlín Rohanské nábrezí Prague The new dominant feature of the Prague 8 skyline with its 10 aboveground floors offers 22,000 m2 of variable rental space and 347 parking places in 3 underground floors The building employs the most up-to-date cooling and ventilation methods using induction units The building façade is also exceptional, with its dominating French windows across the floor height interlaid with 3D columns of glass-fibre concrete The building combines a number of environmentally friendly features, such as the use of water taken from a Vltava flush channel located under the building for cooling The architectural design of the building combines the harmony of organic, soft curves within an otherwise straightforward and systematic architecture The untraditional round shapes of the building allow for a new approach to the use of the interior and the smooth curve of the facade allows for placement of fully fledged workspaces along the whole perimeter Project is not public! 13 photo: Ondrej Polak photo: Ondrej Polak Oskar mobile office Vinohradská Prague Oskar's design brief landed the idea of the "home project" trying to blend the notion of work within the domestic environment It suited their relaxed but business minded work ethic Cloud boards of employee wishes for their new home were polled, collated, organized and presented to 4a for interpretation Open plan "H" shaped offices with a compact centralized spine of associated meeting rooms, informal spaces, kitchens, landings, phone booths, copy corners, bathrooms and technical rooms formulate an area of about 2000 m2 per floor The design of the sixth floor at 1800 m2, acted as the prototype template for the rest of the building The interior design sums the various personal and professional 'wants' arriving at a fairly interesting atmosphere, mixing the office work station with graphics, pictures, soft domestic fabrics, textures and home features Together it gives enough space to breath, hang out, talk, get the corporate message across and hopefully inspire employees photo: Ondrej Polak Project is not public! 14 O2 Arena Prague Ceskomoravská 2345/ Prague O2 Arena (formerly Sazka Arena) is a multi-purpose arena, in Prague Built in time for the 2004 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships, O2 Arena is the home of HC Slavia Prague of the Czech Extraliga and part-time home of HC Lev Prague of the KHL In the season, three Rytiri Kladno home games were also played there, one of which attracted an Extraliga-record crowd of 17,182 Project is public! 2004 Main designer, Vladimír Vokatý Jirí Vít Martin Vokatý Nazar 14

17 photo: Viktor Tonner photo: Viktor Tonner Prague National Technical Library Technická Prague photo: Viktor Tonner In 2000 Projektil Architekti won the competition for the National Technical Library on the Czech Technical University's Dejvicka campus The library features six floors above grade and three floors below The latter houses parking, storage and other non-daylight functions, and the former's mass sits behind a pleasing double-wall glass façade, softened by the doughnut-shaped building's rounded corners Approaching the stand-alone building from the surrounding campus, the library veils its content behind the finely proportioned glazing A prominent horizontal band and matching vertical marks break up an otherwise homogenous façade Access from any of the four sides is via recessed portals that give way to a central atrium It is this space that is the heart of the project, a colourful space not anticipated by the exterior's formal treatment or lack of colour (text from wwwarchidoseorg) Project is public! 20 photo: UNIT architekti photo: UNIT architekti Housing complex Vackov Na Vackove Prague The design integrates a variety of demands placed on urban housing today: services and comfort which correspond to the traditional urban density, but also a level of privacy and the pleasure of living in a private house with garden The main emphasis was put on creating a legible environment with an intuitive layout The overall layout consist of three clusters each comprising of 3-4 buildings (30-40 units), whose size, character and spatial organization create the potential for neighbourly living The core of each cluster is formed by semiprivate space with garden characteristics Permeability of the complex is achieved through semi-public paths in-between clusters The paths meet in a central commons which serves as an informal center of the complex The design of the buildings contributes to defining variety of characters of the common spaces While the wood facades of the courtyards convey a sense of home, more formal brick facades present the 'front' of the buildings outward Project is public! 21 photo: Piotr Krajewski photo: Piotr Krajewski Restaurant Praha Expo 58 Letenské sady Prague The restaurant Expo 58 was built together with an exhibition pavilion, in order to represent former Czechoslovakia at the World Expo in Brussels in 1958 After the huge success at the exhibition, the building was dismantled and transfered back to Prague The building was then used for its original purpose The restaurant was sold in 1991 to a private owner and further changes of owners, problematic managment and vandalism almost led to its destruction In 2001, the building was restored On the one hand, the restaurant was saved, but its purpose was changed as well Also, the interior of the newly reconstructed building has nothing to do with the original one Currently, the Expo restaurant is the domicile of an advertising agency (text from Public access unknown! 1960 Main designer, Frantisek Cubr Josef Hruby Zdenek Pokorný pkrajewski_pl photo: Piotr Krajewski 21
