4 1. Introduction The following report provides a range of insights in regard to the NSW Clubs Industry based on the NSW State Gaming data. The purpose is to provide PKF clients and potential clients in the industry with information relevant to the conduct of their Clubs for the benefit of their communities. 2. Executive Summary NSW State-Level Insights Annual growth in total NSW Club Turnover was 0.5% and Net was a decline of -0.2% in the 12 months ended 30 November This trend likely reflects the combination of key changes impacting the industry, including higher RTPs, MTGMs, Links and demographic and technological developments. The November 2017 quarterly turnover decreased by -1.0% and Net decreased by -0.8% relative to the August 2017 quarter. The November 2017 quarterly turnover increased by 1.7% and Net increased by 1.1% relative to the November 2016 quarter. Net ($) continues to lag the growth in Turnover due to the impact of higher RTP(%) and the increasing penetration of MTGMs and Links. Machine numbers continue in long-term decline across NSW. The Average Net Per Machine Per Day for the November 2017 quarter for the Top 25 Clubs was $275 and the overall NSW Average was $158. Club Ranking Movements Refer to sections 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 5.2, 6.1 and 6.2 for the largest increases and decreases in key rankings for the current quarter and the annual average for the year to November Club Machine Movements Refer to section 7 for the largest individual increases and decreases by venue in machine numbers for the current quarter. High-level Industry Insights 3.1 Annual Total NSW Turnover and Net Hold Trends (12 Months to 30 November) 3.2 Quarterly Total NSW Turnover and Net Hold Trends The observed historical quarterly seasonality pattern appears to have changed in FY16 and FY17, such that the May quarter no longer rebounds strongly after the seasonal low in the February quarter. 6 3.3 Total NSW Turnover and Net Hold ($) Quarterly Changes 3.4 Total NSW Turnover and Net Hold ($) Quarterly Changes to Prior Year Quarterly growth in Turnover relative to the same quarter in the prior year increased in November to 2% after a number of subdued quarters. Page 6 of 36
7 3.5 Annual Total NSW Turnover and Net Hold ($) Change to the Prior Year Growth in Net ($) continues to lag the growth in Turnover due to the impact of higher RTP(%) and the increasing penetration of MTGMs and Links. 3.6 Annual Total NSW Turnover, Net Hold ($) and Net Hold (%) Trends The annual Net Hold (%) has now dropped below 7.2% for the first time.
