Welcome to the Gables. We are excited to have you here! This semester our staff (page 2) is working on some great events for you including GABLES BBQ, APPLEFEST, BUS STOP BREAKFAST CARTS, CHOCO- LATEFEST AND CHANCES TO GIVE BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY. This edition of the Gables Gazette is also jam packed full of information to help you thought out the semester. 4 GABLES POLICIES AND STATS IMPORTANT APARTMENT POLICIES If you are 21+ you may consume alcohol in your apartment. Please do not consume alcohol in any common areas (stairwell, outside, etc) or in a dry apartment (i.e. where all residents of the apartment are under 21). If you are under 21, please do not consume alcohol at the Gables or come back intoxicated. This could lead to probation and eviction. Drugs and violence are absolutely zero tolerance in this complex. You may be evicted upon first violation No smoking inside the building. Smokers must be 20 feet from the building at all times. QUIET HOURS Monday - Thursday START at 11p Friday - Saturday START at 1a GABLES STATS THERE ARE 950 RESIDENTS LIVING IN 196 APARTMENTS. 93 APARTMENTS ARE WET [MEANING AT LEAST ONE RESIDENT IS 21+.] 103 APARTMENTS ARE DRY MEANING NO RESIDENTS ARE % OF RESIDENTS (260 PEOPLE) ARE OF THE LEGAL AGE TO DRINK. 5 WHAT IF... LOCKED OUT? Stop by the Mail Desk during office hours to borrow a key for free. For all other times please call lock-out First time let-ins are free. Additional let-ins costs $25. Maintenance request? Visit my.unh.edu and search housing Click on the Housing Living in Wildcat Country tab to direct you to the portal. Sign in using your standard information. Once you are logged in, you will find the Maintenance Request tab up at the top. You will be able to start a new request and edit old ones here with very basic info. YOU VE GOT MAIL? Your mail will be delivered to the Mail Desk in the Gables Office in B Tower. Community Assistants, student staff, and your Apartment Manager also work out of this office. 8 DO YOUR PART... Gables is proud to be part of the UNH composting program! The Gables compost bin is a bright yellow bucket and is located next to the North Tower Dumpster. All leftover food scraps that do not contain meat or dairy can be placed in the compost! It s easy, and saves nutrient-rich food from ending up in a landfill. Here are some tips about what is/isn t compostable, and how to make composting manageable for you Compostable:: veggie & fruit scraps Egg shells, crushed Coffee grounds & filters Tea leaves & tea bags Hay Grains, rice, flour, wheat products Flowers & plant leaves Small amounts of shredded paper Non-meat, non-dairy table scraps Non- Compostable:: Meat, Fish, Dairy (these items take a LONG time to compost and they re smelly!) Colored paper Diseased plants & flowers Inorganic material (plastics, metals, etc.) Human or animal waste Fats & oils Gables Page 8
