2 about the awards In 2011, AZURE launched the AZ AWARDS, an international competition open to architects, designers, manufacturers and students of design-related disciplines. Recognizing excellence and innovation, the AZ AWARDS showcases the best architecture, landscape architecture and interior design projects, as well as products, concepts, experiential graphic design and student work from around the world. International Reach In 2017, the AZ AWARDS received over 800 entries from 41 countries. Of this impressive number, 70 finalists were selected and 20 winners picked up a trophy, designed by Philippe Malouin, at a gala celebration in Toronto. Top Tier Environment The AZ AWARDS attracts entries from some of the most highly innovative firms around the world. Over its seven years, the competition has grown in impact and stature to become a significant benchmark for excellence. Every aspect of the competition is curated and professionally executed from the submissions campaign to the AZ AWARDS Gala, attended by industry leaders and winners and finalists from North and South America, Europe and Asia Winner Best Architecture Single Family, FAHouse by Jean Verville Architecte Awards are incredibly important. 4 The az awards process Jury Entries are submitted in January and February, and the jury meets in March. In April, AZURE runs a People s Choice campaign inviting the public to vote in each of the categories. In June, the finalists, People s Choice and jury winners are promoted in a variety of print and online media and are showcased in the AZ AWARDS Annual, published to coincide with the AZ AWARDS Gala. The AZ AWARDS jury is made up of architects, landscape architects and designers at the forefront of their professions, from Canada and around the world. 5 GLOBAL MARKETING CAMPAIGN The 2018 AZ AWARDS marketing campaign kicks off in the Fall 2017 Run of Network The launch of the AZ AWARDS is promoted through the communications channels of a variety of architecture and design media partners, such as Architonic, World-Architects, The Architect s Newspaper, Archilovers, Archinect / Bustler, Archello, Dezeen and Core77. It s also promoted through Canadian and American professional associations for architects and designers. 6 the gala Taking place in June, the AZ AWARDS Gala is the design event of the season Over 500 top architects, designers and industry-related professionals come together to mingle with the finalists and winners at what has become an internationally renowned event. Finalists travel from as far away as Japan and Brazil to join in the festivities. The 2018 AZ AWARDS Gala will be held at the stunning Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto. The impressive historic location provides a spectacular backdrop for a visual presentation, where the finalists projects take centre stage. Winners receive a one-of-a-kind trophy to commemorate their achievement, and the A + Award for best student project also carries a $5,000 cash prize. The celebration affirms Toronto s position as a significant hub in the international design world. Every year, a special Guest of Honour appearance is one of the highlights of the Gala.
