The Taystee Building is the next phase in the development of the Manhattanville Factory District created by the Janus Property Company. The award-winning architectural firm, LevenBetts, started with a site plan that creates a unique mid-block urban passageway and open plaza that extends from West 5th Street to the main entrance of the building on West 6th Street. This broad light-filled green space will feature beautiful landscaping and numerous places for tenants to gather, hold an outdoor meeting, or relax and enjoy a work break. The facades of black steel and large expanses of glass evoke the area s industrial architecture, while bringing the transparency of st century architecture to the block. The Taystee Building is unequivocally modern and efficient. Its cores and column spacing have been designed to assure flexible tenant layouts. The high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass provide the spaces with abundant natural light, creating warm, inviting and productive work spaces. 12 DEVELOPMENT TEAM 3 taystee team The Taystee Building is being developed by a joint venture of affiliates of The Janus Property Company and Monadnock Construction. Together, Janus and Monadnock bring long-term track records of success, deep local involvement and support, and a commitment to quality and value. the janus property company monadnock construction developer co-developer and general contractor SCOTT METZNER founded Janus over 5 years ago. With his partner, Jerry Salama, their development work together has included extensive rehabilitation and new construction of market rate and affordable rental and condominium housing, mixed-use projects, large-scale commercial buildings, and the master-planning and rezoning of the largest non-institutional assemblage of privately-owned property in West Harlem. Mr. Metzner was one of the earliest developers involved with Harlem s current re-birth. In addition to his New York projects, Mr. Metzner has been active in both national real estate markets and international capital markets in senior positions at Roseland Property Company, Daiwa Securities America and as a partner at Eastdil Realty, a precursor to Eastdil-Secured. Mr. Metzner received a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Architecture professional degree from the University of Maryland. He serves on the Executive Committee of the board of Phipps Houses, New York s largest affordable housing developer/ owner, is a board member of Phipps Neighborhoods and is Vice Chair of the Real Estate Committee of the board of the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. JERRY SALAMA has been a Principal of The Janus Property Company since 998. Prior to Janus, Mr. Salama was Deputy Commissioner of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, Acting General Manager of the New York City Housing Authority and Counsel to the Deputy Mayor of New York for Finance and Economic Development. Earlier in his career, Mr. Salama was a real estate attorney with the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.
