To communicate the Lexus ethos in a visible and tangible form, we are proudly hosting LEXUS DESIGN AMAZING 2013 MILAN, an exhibition full of unexpected and exhilarating encounters which also allows visitors to experience two approaches to design. The -amazing flow- exhibition reflects not only the concrete manifestation of concepts by world-famous designers, but also a belief in design that breathes life into the new Lexus worldview. Outstanding design is fundamental to mankind s continued coexistence with the environment. Lexus has created the exhibition space as an example of our engagement with great design to provide a brighter future. The Lexus Design Award is an international competition intended to solve pertinent issues through design. By continually discovering, supporting and nurturing new talent, Lexus will foster the potential of design in the generations that will build the future.

3 EVENT OVERVIEW -amazing flow- An experiment in exploring new perceptions of the value of design, the exhibition focuses on various manifestations of flow as they relate to both people and nature. It features an installation inspired by nature, designed to simulate the natural motion of the wind. Surprising and intriguing visitors, the space envisions the possibilities of a rich design future that works in harmony with nature. The LEXUS DESIGN AMAZING 2013 MILAN exhibition is staged at Milan Design Week, the foremost international event for the world s design industry*. Presented under the theme of design that inspires and builds the future, the exhibition is part of a coordinated effort to further reinforce the image of Lexus as a truly global premium car brand that has design at its core. The event creates an opportunity for Lexus to present a vision of the future by which design moves the spirit and surpasses conventional notions of car design. * Milan Design Week - also known as Salone Del Mobile- is the world s largest design exhibition. Furniture makers and fashion brands stage a variety of related events throughout Milan during the week to highlight the appeal and originality of their designs. The Lexus Design Award is an international competition that aspires to nurture and support a new generation of designers from around the world, whose contributions can enrich society. This year, the broadest possible spectrum of designers was invited to give form to their ideas on the theme of Motion - a word and concept directly connected to everyday life. * The award ceremony takes place on Tuesday April 9 th at 7:00pm. 4 CONCEPT - amazing flow - By viewing design from the perspective of flow rather than the typical focus on individual objects, we can understand the connection that unites the distinct entities of cars, humans, wind, water and living creatures. Cars run along the ground, but they and humans are not the only things that flow across the surface of the earth. The wind, water and a wide variety of living creatures are also part of the flow. And, while the process can take centuries, even the surface of the planet flows as it changes form. As an extension of this premise, one could say that cities people build are also part of this flow. Extrapolating further, the human body itself is an organism comprised of a variety of small flows. The exhibition space has been designed to present a dynamic scene inspired by an awareness of the flow of the wind in nature. Our desire here is to create a design that allows visitors to experience the image of nature and humans joining to create the flow of life in the future, explain designers Toyo Ito and Akihisa Hirata.

5 INSTALLATION STRUCTURE WIND FLOW Floating up within the 330m 2 space is a phantasmagorical path born from the wind as found in nature. Visitors become one with the flow as they stroll through the natural wood installation that brings to mind visions of a future urban environment. Within the hall in which the dynamic installation rises to heights of up to 5.5m, a giant fan and an illuminated spray of mist deliver a visual and tactile wind flow experience to visitors. Natural wood components were made at Venice in Italy.

After completing postgraduate studies in Engineering at Kyoto University in 1997, joined Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects, then established Akihisa Hirata Architecture Office in Awards include Japan Institute of Architects New Face Award (2008) and ELLE DECO Young Japanese Design Talent (2009). In 2012, he won Elita Design Award at Milano Salone for the installation Photosynthesis, the first place in the architectural competition for Post-disaster Restoration Housing and Kindergarten in Kamaishi, Japan and his solo exhibition Tangling was held at Architecture Foundation in London. 7 LEXUS DESIGN AWARD LEXUS DESIGN AWARD Targeted to attract the world s next generation of creators, the Lexus Design Award is an international competition established to promote designs that will enrich society. 1,243 entries were received from around the world during the submission period of October 30 to December 31, After thorough consideration by six judges, the twelve winning designs were announced on February 28, Two innovative entrants from among the twelve selected winners then worked with world-famous designers as mentors in preparing prototypes from their ideas. The two prototypes and ten winning works are displayed as part of LEXUS DESIGN AMAZING 2013 MILAN. A press preview and award ceremony took place at the venue on Tuesday April 9 th, Judging criteria: Designs that display a deep understanding and original interpretation of Lexus design Originality of the entrant s approach and solution in response to the challenge Theme: Motion Bodies move objects. The heart moves consciousness. Information and society move the times. Their actions reverberate. They trigger a chain reaction. The competition called for DESIGN that applies Motion to provide solutions to various issues in daily life.

This technique gives rise to new possibilities for porcelain. Calm Kayak is not designed for use in extreme sports. Its main purpose is for floating comfortably on a calm river, lake or city canal while reflecting on one s own thoughts.

The concept began with seeking the meaning of proper motion in our lives, so the design utilizes the most basic and natural motions to function without any user education.
