2 present Otto Rudolf Salvisberg Otto Brechbühl Jakob Itten Motor Columbus Peter Staub Nick Gartenmann Nine partners Otto Rudolf Salvisberg and Otto Brechbühl establish an architecture firm in Bern in They have their breakthrough with the competition for the Lory spital 1924/25, which is followed by the neo-natal hospital in the Elfenau quarter, the institution buildings of Bern university, and several buildings for Roche. After Salvisberg s death, Otto Brechbühl takes over the Bern office with six employees. He is a pragmatist, implementer, and technician, and achieves remarkable success after the war with large hospital buildings like the Anna Seiler Haus and the institute for dental medicine of Bern University. Jakob Itten joins Brechbühl and lends support with the major project Inselspital Bern. The firm now firmly establishes itself as a specialist for the health sector, is renamed Itten+Brechbühl in 1967, and soon employs a staff of over 200. The oil crisis causes a sharp decline in business. The expansion strategy hospital projects abroad is costly and forces Itten+Brechbühl to lay off employees and sell to project partner Motor Columbus. Peter Staub, Managing Director since 1979, takes over Itten +Brechbühl jointly with Hans Eggen in a management buyout. With a team of young architects, the firm enters about 50 competitions and emerges with twelve 1st prizes, among them the Technopark, the treatment tract of Zurich University Hospital, and the Bern Pathology wing. The office is taken over by Nick Gartenmann, wins two competitions (Forestry Centre in Lyss, Suva Clinic in Sion) and intensifies the firm s cooperation with international architecture firms, for example Nicholas Grimshaw during the competition for the fifth stage of the expansion of Zurich airport. Long-term team members take over the firm in a management buyout and continue the company s success story by focusing on complex construction projects, such as the SBB Operations Centre in Olten. Today, the firm has roughly 300 employees and is owned by nine partners and about 60 other colleagues.

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT Every month across Europe we turn planning results into real buildings to a value of around 30 million Swiss francs. We organise, coordinate and manage the entire construction process. The standards we set ourselves in terms of efficiency and quality represent our top priority and we pay special attention to logistics and to the critical path when we have complex projects to handle. PROJECT MANAGEMENT We plan, monitor and control the entire process from the initial planning stage to completion and commissioning, and we keep a constant eye on the critical trifecta of schedule, cost, and quality. The experience we have gained from hundreds of complex construction projects has been distilled into practical tools. Our project managers regularly share their best practices, ensuring that all of their combined vast experience is on tap for all our projects. PLANNING Planning for us means more than merely drafting the construction documentation. Thanks to our comprehensive experience based on intensive dialogues with technical experts and with the authorities, we are able to cover every aspect relevant to the project. CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION Construction administration is a matter of trust for us.
