From'Your'Leadership'Team + Welcome+ to+ another+ ECA+ year.+ The+ State+ Leadership+ Team+ met+ on+ Wednesday,+ July+ 21 st +in+raleigh+to+ jump+ start+ the+ year We+ had+ a+ great+ meeting+ with+ all+ Sive+ Districts+ represented.++ + Each+ District+ President+ gave+ a+ report+ on+ what+ they+ have+ done+ and+ will+be+doing+in+the+months+to+come.+ Sounds+like+the+District+Days+will+all+be+awesome.+We+hope+a+lot+of+you+ will+attend+your+district+meetings+since+we+are+making+plans+to+try+and+ update+counties+through+their+districts+and+need+this+information+to+get+ to+all+members.+ + The+Leadership+Team+had+a+lot+of+discussion+on+our+programs,+ Sinances+and+reports+and+we+are+working+on+solutions.+They+too+will+be+ shared+through+this+newsletter+as+well+as+through+your+county.++ + As+ most+ of+ you+ know+ I+ have+ gone+ through+ a+ time+ of+ cancer+ surgery+ and+ treatment+ but+ am+ getting+ a+ lot+ better+ now.+ Thank+ you+ all+ for+your+prayers,+cards+and+calls+during+this+time.+it+has+meant+more+to+ me+ than+ you+ will+ ever+ know.+ I+ want+ to+ thank+ Geri+ Bushel+ and+ Wanda+ Denning+for+coming+along+side+of+me+during+this+time.+ + I+am+so+proud+to+be+your+President,++ + Faye+W.+Lanier+ Tar'Heel'Homemakers'Update' + For+the+past+few+years,+four+issues+of+the+Tar+Heel+Homemakers+ (THH)+ newspaper+ have+ not+ been+ printed.+ + Sue+ Glover,+ the+ Appointed+ Editor,+has+done+an+outstanding+job,+but+each+deadline+receives+less+and+ less+information+for+the+paper.++the+last+issue+printed+was+november+of and+the+cost+to+print+and+mail+that+issue+almost+doubled More+and+more,+counties+Sind+it+easier+and+are+opting+to+ + their+news+to+geri+for+inclusion+in+the+enews.+ + Your+ Leadership+ Team+ at+ the+ beginning+ of+ each+ year+ looks+ at+ Sinances+and+policies.++With+all+things+considered,+the+decision+has+been+ made+ to+ print+ one+ issue+ of+ the+ THH+ in This+ will+ be+ a+ Year% in% Review% % issue+ and+ printed+ after+ State+ Conference.+ + Counties+ are+ encouraged+ to+ submit+ highlights+ of+ their+ year+ to+ Sue+ Glover+ + for+ inclusion.++this+issue+will+supplement+our+annual+report.,+so+you+still+ need+to+prepare+your+annual+report+due+in+july!% % With+ this+ decision,+ it+ is+ more+ crucial+ that+ counties+ ensure+ that+ ALL+their+members+receive+the+eNews via+ ,+snail+mail+or+as+a+ handout!!+

Northeast Beaufort, Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Edgecombe, Franklin, Gates, Halifax, Hertford, Hyde, Martin, Nash, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Pitt, Tyrrell, Wake, Warren, Washington Currituck'County' was+ a+ banner+ year+ for+ the+ Corolla' ECA.+ They+ held+ a+ fundraising+ fashion+ show,+ titled+ High+ Tea? High+ Fashion,+ in+ May+ at+ The+ Currituck+ Club+ which+ was+ attended+ by+ approximately fashionistas.+ + Almost+ everything,+including+the+use+of+the+currituck+club+facility+ and+ food+ and+ decorations+ was+ donated+ by+ Outer+ Banks + businesses,+ the+ Currituck+ Club,+ Harris+ Teeter+ and+ Food+ Lion.+ Ten+ club+ members+ served+ as+ models,+ wearing+ fashions+ from+ Mustang+ Sally s,+ a+ boutique+ in+ Corolla.+ Mustang+ Sally s+ also+ provided+ door+ prizes.+ + The+ club+ raised+ $3,600+ through+ ticket+ sales,+ a+ rafsle+ with+ merchandise+ donated+ by+ Daniels+ Homeport,+ The+ Cotton+ Gin+ and+ Alice s+ Craft+ Shop+ and+ cash+ donations+ from+ Towne+ Bank,+ Sunshine+ Pharmacy,+ Village+ Realty,+ Twiddy+ Vacation+ Rentals,+ Corolla+ Classic+ Vacation+ Rentals,+ Lighthouse+ Bagels+ and+ Carolina+ Shores+ Vacation+ Rentals.+ + Since+the+Fashion+Show+was+so+successful,+enabling+the+club+to+support+so+many+programs+for+the+needy+in+ Currituck+County,+it+has+been+decided+that+the+second+annual+ High+Tea?High+Fashion +will+take+place+in+april+ of In+ September,+ the+ membership+ decided+ to+ allocate+ the+ funds+ raised+ as+ follows:+ + (1)+ + adopting children+ through+ Operation+ Santa+ Claus+ and+ allocating+ $100+ for+ gifts+ for+ each+child,+then+shopping+to+ +fulsill+each+child s+wish+list;+ +(2)+making+cash+ donations+ to+ Operation+ Backpack,+ Blankets+ for+ Seniors,+ Senior+ Christmas+ Baskets,+ WEVS??Corolla s+ local+ charter+ school;+ and+ (3)+ reserving+ funds+ to+ send+several+needy+children+to+currituck s+4h+summer+camp.+++ Hostesses at Albemarle Craftsmanship Fair Sent 110 Christmas cards to Support Our Troops The+ Circle' ECA' was+ busy+ in with+ recruitment+ and+ community+ service+ projects.+ + Three+ past+ ECA+ members,+ whose+ club+ had+ previously+ disbanded+ were+recruited+to+join+our+club+in one+of+those+members+had+served+as+ her+club+president+for+many+years+and+was+an+eca+member+for+34+years.+ +All+ three+members+attended+at+least+one+circle+eca+meeting+in This+club+participated+in+twelve+different+ community+service+projects+in in+october+they+served+as+hostesses+at+the+albemarle+craftsman's'+fair+by+ assisting+the+vendors+with+their+booths,+distributing+programs+and+helping+as+needed.+ +November+was+their+ month+to+show+their+appreciation+for+the+many+men+and+women+who+serve+in+the+armed+forces+as+well+as+ show+their+patriotism.++members+donated+$85+toward+the+purchase+of+two+mp3+bible+sticks+and+20+bandanas+ to+be+donated+to+service+men/women.++they+also+wrote+110+christmas+cards+to+the+support+our+troops+and+5+ Christmas+cards+were+mailed+to+Recovering+American+Soldiers+at+Walter+Reid++Hospital.++They+also+enjoyed+as+ their+club+program+a+documentary+entitled+ America,+a+homes+tour+and+lunch+at+a+local+restaurant.+ 2

3 Currictuck'County,'cont d' In+ December+ the+ Currituck+ County+ ECA+ sponsored+ the+ 62 nd +annual+ Christmas+Tree+Lighting+Program+and+co?sponsored+the+county+Christmas+ Parade.+ + Members+ donated+ and+ packaged+ cookies+ + for+ the+ refreshments+ following+ the+ lighting+ of+ the+ tree.+ + They+ also+ donated+ six+ blankets+ to+ the+ Senior+ Center+ which+ would+ be+ delivered+ to+ elderly+ shut?ins+ in+ our+ community.+ +6+blankets+for+elderly+shut?ins+ Tyrrell'County' Tyrrell+ ECA+ continues+ to+ utilize+ grant+ funds+ from+ the+ NC+ ECA+ Foundation+ to+ enhance+ and+ market+ the+ local+ ECA+ program.+ + A+ "Dine+ and+ Learn"+ session+ focusing+ on+ Leadership+ Development+ is+ scheduled+ for+ February We+ are+ very+ excited+ about+ a+ localized+ ECA+ brochure+ being+ developed+ by+ Creeks+ ECA+ member,+ Christy+ Maready!+ + She+ is+ working+ on+ the+ Sinal+touches,+but+here+is+a+sneak+peek!+ +We+feel+sure+this+will+create+conversations+about+ECA,+ which+will+result+in+new+members!+ Wake'County' At+the+January+Wake+County+ECA+meeting,+members+donated+30+Sidget+aprons+to+ Alzheimer s+ Association.+ + At+ right,+ members+ model+ a+ few+ of+ the+ aprons.+ + The+ contribution+was+valued+at+$ Southeast Bladen, Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Duplin, Greene, Johnston, Jones, Lenoir, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Robeson, Sampson, Wayne, Wilson Craven'County' The+members+of+Krafter s+katch+eca+were+busy+little+elves+in+the+month+of+december.+several+members+spent+a+ day+making+breast+pillows.++as+they+were+completing+them,+a+former+member+who+volunteers+at+the+local+hospital+ came+in+asking+for+breast+pillows.+the+hospital+had+none+in+stock.+ +The+members+were+happy+to+give+her+pillows+ that+they+had+completed.+in+total+21+pillows+were+made+that+day On+December+5,+another+group+from+Krafter s+katch+met+for+lunch+at+a+local+eatery+and+afterward+they+went+to+ the+new+bern+convention+center.+ +For+the+past+5+years+this+group+has+made+and+designed+homemade+Christmas+ ornaments+for+the+breakfast+with+santa,+that+carolinaeast+foundation+organizes+every+year.+the+ladies+were+there+ to+ decorate+ a+ tree+ with+ over handmade+ ornaments.+ Each+ child+ that+ attends+ breakfast,+ gets+ to+ choose+ an+ ornament+from+the+tree+to+take+home.++the+tree+is+completely+silled+and+extras+are+placed+in+baskets+under+the+tree.+ The+Foundation+had+started+with+200+seatings+and+is+now+up+to+500,+and+is+delighted+to+see+the+ideas+these+ladies+ come+up+with+each+year.+the+group+has+already+started+on+2015+batch+of+ornaments The+December+meeting+was+short+because+everyone+was+waiting+to+play+ Dirty+Bingo.+Every+member+as+they+ played+had+a+unwrapped+gift+in+front+of+them.+as+someone+called+bingo?+she+got+to+trade+gifts+with+anyone.+funny+ a+snow+globe+with+a+skunk+was+the+gift+everyone+was+stealing The+New+Year+brings+a+busy+calendar+for+the+Krafter s+katch.+blankets+will+be+made+for+project+linus,+receiving+ blankets+will+be+sewn+for+the+hospital s+nursery.+and++we+will+be+sewing+large+christmas+stockings+for+the+uso+for+ next+december,+in+addition+to+our+500+christmas+ornaments+for+carolinaeast+foundation. 3

4 Duplin'County' + NCECA+held+its+annual+conference+recently+in+Asheville+where+we+had+members+recognized+with+state+ awards.+ + We+were+small+in+attendance+numbers,+but+the+awards+and+recognition+for+the+Duplin+ECA+was+grand, + said+club+president+theresa+bowles.+members+attending+the+conference+from+duplin+county+included+club+ President+Theresa+Bowles,+Doreatha+Roberts,+Patricia+Wilson+and+Duplin+County+Extension+ECA+liaison+Bridget+ Huffman.+ + As+a+long?time+member+of+the+Duplin+ECA+Club,+Ruby+Brinson+received+an+award+for+outstanding+ leadership.+club+member+mae+bell+satchell+was+recognized+with+an+outstanding+volunteer+award.+in+addition,+the+ club+received+an+award+of+excellence+for+excellence+for+educational+and+organizational+achievements+in+fulsilling+ the+mission+and+purpose+of+the+nc+eca+organization.++ + One+of+the+several+local+projects+the+ECA+club+has+done+this+year+and+will+continue+into+2015,+is+making+ simple+dresses+for+needy+children.+the+dresses+work+best+made+from+a+cotton+or+cotton+blend+material+and+the+club+ received+many+donations+of+fabric+earlier+in+the+year.+however,+according+to+ms.+bowles,+the+supply+of+this+kind+of+ fabric+is+getting+low+and+club+members+are+appealing+to+the+public+for+additional+donations,+which+can+be+dropped+ off+at+the+duplin+county+cooperative+extension+ofsice+at+165+agriculture+drive,+kenansville.+ + The+ECA+state+conference+offers+club+members+from+across+the+state+an+opportunity+to+participate+in+ educational+workshops,+leadership+training,+and+a+cultural+arts+competition+is+held.+ Duplin+ECA+members+show+their+state+recognition+award+ announced+at+the+annual+meeting+of+the+nc+eca+group.+pictured+ above+(l+to+r)+mae+bell+satchell,+doreatha+roberts,+ruby+brinson,+ Annie+Mae+Williams,+Catherine+Lovick,+Annie+Lou+Williams,+Annie+ Ruth+Picket,+Club+President+Theresa+Bowles,+Nicie+Williams,+Olivia+ Williams,+Eloise+Coston,+Willie+Mae+ Williams,+Delilah+Gomes,+and+Anna+ Jones.+ Duplin+ECA+members+(l+to+r)+Ruby+Brinson+and+Mae+Bell+Satchell+were+recognized+at+the+ state+conference+of+the+eca+organization.+ms.+brinson,+who+has+been+a+duplin+eca+club+ member+more+than+35+years,+was+recognized+for+ Outstanding+Leadership +to+the+eca+ organization+for+her+service+at+the+local+and+state+levels.+mae+bell+stachell+received+an+ Outstanding+Volunteer +award.+ North Central Alamance, Alleghany, Ashe, Caswell, Chatham, Davidson, Davie, Durham, Forsyth, Granville, Guilford, Orange, Person, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Vance, Wilkes, Yadkin Person'County+had+a+two+craft+workshop,+attended+the+Barn+Dinner+Theatre,+collected+items+for+the+Boys+&+ Girls+Home+and+presented+to+Gary+Green.++They+will+visit+the+Home+in+the+summer.+They+also+had+a+pinto+bean+fund+ raiser+to+help+with+community+projects.+eca+members+also+help+with+the+snap?ed+nutrition+program.+ Alleghany'County'helped+with+the+Red+Cross+Blood+Mobile+,+the+Angel+tree,+food+closet+and+pregnancy+center.+ They+also+made+some+dresses+for+Haiti.' Davie' County' sponsored+ a+ trip+ to+ Samaritan's+ Purse+ Disaster+ Relief+ Site+ in+ North+ Wilkesboro+ and+ donated+ hygiene+bags+and+blankets+to+the+davie+domestic+violence+program+and+to+the+broughton+hospital+christmas+' 4

6 January 2015 Volume 5 number 1 Lee'County'' Hearts+&+Hands+ECA+Quilt+Guild+enjoyed+it's+annual+Holiday+Party+the+Sirst+ Saturday+ in+ December.+ The+ 34+ guests+ enjoyed+ a+ great+ meal+ from+ Mrs.+ Lacy's+Tea+Room.+ Pictured+are+the+3+winners+of+the+Fat+Quarter+ShufSle.+ Ann+Hayes+holding+up+a+pillowcase.+Ann+contributes+regularly+to+our+Pillowcase+ Challenge.+ + Pillowcases+ have+ been+ given+ to+ Ronald+ McDonald+ House+ and+ The+ Haven.+ These+three+members+are+enjoying+the+Show+and+Tell+part+of+our+guild+meeting.++ Ann+Tomko+is+showing+her+Sirst+Grandmother's+Garden+piecing+project.+ Stanly'County' Fairview+ ECA+ Club+ in+ Stanly+ County+ was+ awarded+ a+ Blue+ Ribbon+ for+ its+ entry+ in+ the+ Stanly+ County+ American+ Legion+ Fair+ held+ the+ last+week+of+september.++the+title+of+the+booth+was+ Make+Time+to+ Unwind + and+ included+ a+ clock+ beside+ the+ title+ banner+ as+ well+ as+ numerous+ other+ clocks+ among+ the+ various+ components+ of+ the+ booth:+exercising,+needle+work+examples,+books+to+read,+painting+ pictures+ with+ brushes,+ meditation+ examples,+ gardening,+ stained+ glass,+etc.+ +The+booth+was+easy+to+set+up+as+we+thought+of+various+ things+one+can+do+and+the+members+brought+selected+items+to+sill+ the+ given+ categories+ which+ were+ labeled.+ + We+ also+ had+ two+ handouts+for+fair+patrons+to+take+home:+ + + Stress+Relief+ +Chronic+ Tension+ Harms+ Your+ Health + and+ Make+ Time+ to+ Unwind+?+ A+ Closer+Look+at+Stress.+!Jennifer Ames, Miriam Cranford, and Ruth Cotton getting popcorn and water prepared for student. ECA+ members+ are+ always+ a+ vital+ p a r t+ o f+ t h e+ A g r i c u l t u r e+ A w a r e n e s s+ D a y s+ e v e n t.+ Extension+counts+on+members+to+ help+ with+ various+ stations+ and+ providing+ lunch+ for+ the volunteers+on+the+sirst+day+of+the+ three+ day+ event.+ + This+ year+ ECA+ members+planned,+prepared+and+ served+ a+ delicious+ lunch.+ Each+ day+ of+ the+ three+ day+ event+ Oakwood+Park+members,+Miriam+ Cranford+ and+ Ruth+ Cotton+!Geraldine West, Judi Coen, Tyson Club; Ann Duckwall, Daytimers; Liz Nichols, Fork Club; and Louise Miller, worked+ alongside+ 4?H+ parent+ Daytimers Club prepared and served lunch on Tuesday. volunteer,+ Jennifer+ Ames,+ in+ the+ 6 Nutrition+ station+ preparing+ popcorn+and+water+for+students+and+teachers.

H+ Agent,+ in+ the+ Nutrition+ Station.+ Their+ lesson+ focused+on+the+classroom+curriculum+ Farmer+Grows+ a+rainbow +provided+to+each+school+by+farm+bureau.+ Kayla+Shomaker+and+her+husband,+Clyde+volunteered+ on+ Wednesday.+ Kayla+ was+ busy+ all+ day+ in+ the+ NC+ Soybean+Station+helping+to+serve+students+samples+of+ food+ products+ with+ soybeans+ as+ one+ of+ the+ main+ ingredients.+! Geraldine & Louise making those delicious Rosemary Chicken Salad sandwiches.
