ORDER (Reference RGO NZ death registration 1854 folio and web reg. 1854/180) Inquest into the death of Mat Maria NEWPORT the later evidence shows she was so ill and had so many medical complaints it was a wonder she had not died long before also she refused to eat and family tried to force her. The last week of her life in hospital would not eat either and post mortem showed only half a bowl of oatmeal gruel in her stomach. They had starved her when she would refuse food. Doctor was also the Coroner at the first inquest and blamed death onto husband Samuel to try and stop blame being attached to hospital staff see paper on inquest. Susan WHITING was born about 1825 England. Her parents were Ann and James WHITING who came to New Zealand on the Inchinnan.
