There were nine candidates for seven seats on the board. The following were elected - George Isaac Benge 90 - Richard Henry Williams 87 - Alex. Gordon Martin 83 - William R. Keys 81 - Job Harrison 78 - John Thomas Craig 79 - Frank Wilkie 73 - The defeated candidates were Messrs P D Davis and T F Boyd who polled 60 and 28 votes respectively. The newly appointed commissioners meet for the first time tomorrow night. (Reference RGO NZ death registration 1945 folio website 1945/29546 age 74 born about 1871) Evening Post newspaper 16 February 1945 Obituary - Mr Francis H Wilkie - The death occurred recently at Upper Hutt of Mr F H Wilkie at the age of 74 years. Mr Wilkie was a well-known New Zealand rifleman having joined the Upper Hutt Club over 40 years ago. He was champion shot of the club for six years and first represented New Zealand in He was a member of the New Zealand team that visited Bisley England in 1905 where he won the "Daily Graphic" Cup with a score of 158 out of a possible of 160 his last seventeen shots being all bulls. Mr Wilkie toured "Australia with the New Zealand team in 1906 where again his shooting was remarkable. At one time he was secretary of the Trotting Club when the races were held at Quinn's Post. As a cricketer he was a prolific scorer with the bat in his young days and was also interested in Rugby. He was a foundation member of the Upper Hutt Town Board and served on that body for some while. He leaves a widow and two daughters.
