3 photo: Mieke Vullings photo: Mieke Vullings Killesbergturm Beim Hohenfreibad Stuttgart Germany This over 40 meter high belvedere is situated at the highest point of the Killesberg Park and offers a terrific view over the city of Stuttgart and its surroundings Two light spiral staircases, with each 174 steps, connect four platforms with levels of 8, 16, 24 and 31 meter To separate the traffic streams of people one leads the visitors up and one brings them down The structure consists of a prestressed cable-net 48 cables with a diameter of 18 mm are spun around the mast and platforms At 34 metre the cable net is connected to a compression ring and at the bottom at a ring basis Because the mast pushes the ring and connected net up, the net becomes prestressed and in the cables only the pulling strength is working Thanks to that trick the cables could be formed so very thin! 18 photo: Tom Scott photo: Tom Scott St Mary's Garden Hall St Mary's Road 30 SW19 London United Kingdom This project grew out of the 's need for additional flexible space that could accommodate both large social or community events, as well as smaller groups such as the Sunday School The result is a new hall of 100m2, which is divisible into two, with a direct visual and physical connection to the churchyard The site is in a conservation area and by sinking the new hall into the site, the architects have achieved an internal height of 4m, whilst keeping the profile of the building low to respect the scale of buildings in the immediate vicinity The contrast between the white ashlar and the darker rusticated dry-stone also reflects the materiality of the listed St Mary's Church photo: Tom Scott Project is not public!
