3 SPEAKERS Andreas Strauß Knauf Gips KG, Germany COMFORT STARTS WITH GOOD PLANNING You don't perceive good acoustics, but you will certainly notice bad acoustics immediately. In today s world, you are exposed to stress and hustle and bustle. Rooms with poor acoustics add their own negative contribution. Good acoustics doesn t just happen, it must be planned. It contributes to the feeling of a comfortable room atmosphere and thus to a relaxing setting, which provides us with a pleasant perception of the room. Nowadays, there are technical and visually appealing solutions at hand that frequently offer an easy technical approach. Andreas Strauß, Knauf Gips KG, has been working in the building materials industry since 1994 as a market and sales manager. His experience includes 2 years in China where he was engaged in the introduction and application of ETICS systems. He is a co-founder of the ETICS association in China. He is a certified acoustics solutions specialist.

4 Nicolas Pomränke gmp/christian Gahl, Germany ARCHITECTUAL APPEARANCE AND ACOUSTIC DEMANDS On the basis of the following projects the interdependency of architectural appearance and acoustic demands will be shown: - New Tempodrom, Berlin, Germany - Qingdao Grand Theatre, Qingdao, China - Kulturpalast Dresden, Germany Each project shows a different approach to connect detailed acoustic design conditions with architectural appearance while considering the technical conditions of material, construction and budget. 5 Rachid Abu-Hassan ARUP, Netherlands ACOUSTICS FOR NONE ACOUSTICIANS A quick guide to acoustic consulting for none acousticians covering all facets of acoustic design in the built environement. Rachid Abu-Hassan the founder of Platform 78, an experienced designer and buildings engineer, a musician, and an adamant long distance runner. Rachid has over 18 years of experience in the construction industry. Rachid started his career with Shen Milsom & Wilke in 2000 as an Acoustic Consultant in New York City and within 4 years, he transferred to Dubai to develop and lead the Middle East Office. In Dubai, Rachid expanded his expertise into the fields of Audiovisual,Telecommunications, and Security systems design. By the end of 2007, Rachid returned to New York City to join Arup's Acoustics, Audiovisual, and Theatre Consulting practice. He shortly joined the New York leadership team and later became an active member of Arup's Consulting Practice which includes, amongst other design disciplines, lighting design, fire engineering, and sustainability. In the beginning of 2012, Rachid transferred to Arup's Amsterdam office where he established the Acoustics, Audiovisual, and Theatre Practice. 6 Erik Ipsen Knauf A/S, Denmark ACOUSTIC GYPSUM - THE NATURAL CHOICE FOR INDOOR ENVIRONMENT Part 1. Structures: the storytelling of aestetics; Part 2. Properties: way to a good indoor quality; Part 3. The sustainable choice. For more than 25 years, Erik Ipsen has been the head of R&D at Knauf in Denmark. He has built up the design and acoustic profile of the Knauf Danoline portfolio as it is today. Erik has a professional background as a boat builder and architect, and has a strong passion for furniture design. As a member of the European, Swedish and Danish acoustic standardization committees, Erik has played a major role in moving the acoustic requirements towards a more holistic, in-situ approach.

7 Gintarė Privedienė & Viktoras Mekas UAB Akustika plius, Lithuania ACOUSTICS. FORM. ARCHITECTURE" A space with good acoustics is for its creator an instrument: a feeling, not just an object. Architectural acoustics is not just substance, it is first and foremost form. Acoustic-influenced expressive form can become an advantage and a characteristic of a space. The influence of form on acoustics and its interplay with architecture are presented in the following projects: Events hall of the Juozas Tallat-Kelpša Conservatorium in Vilnius; Sound recording studios and music-making spaces of Lithuanian National Martynas Mažvydas Library; Hall of the dance theatre of National Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis Arts School. The team of Gintarė Privedienė and Viktoras Mekas believes in the power and potential of architectural acoustics. Since 2003 this team of architect plus engineer has carried out projects that have become increasingly involved with sound insulation and noise control and the specialty of architectural acoustics. Progressively this has become a passion, with the goal being to achieve not just good acoustics, but also visual aesthetics, and over all a feeling. Since 2003 the team has created acoustically sensitive premises for many different functions: universal arenas, cinemas, concert and function halls, theatres, sound recording studios, administrative buildings, etc. For them, the most memorable of their completed projects have been: Lithuanian National Martynas Mažvydas Library; Music Innovations Study Centre of Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy; the Quadrum Business Centre; the hall of the dance theatre of National Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis Arts School; the hall of the Vilnius Arts Press Theatre. Projects they are currently undertaking include: Klaipėda State Music Theatre; Juozas Tallat-Kelpša Conservatorium in Vilnius; Lithuanian National Drama Theatre. Photos by Audrius Priveda
