To include; - the development of nine new apartments within existing first, second and third floors! -addition of rooftop infill volume at rear of building Demolition (and then replacement of) existing flat roof Mr Simon Chappell Mr William Burges We very much favour the principle of bringing the upper floors of retail premises in the town centre into residential use, and commend this scheme on that account. We think the idea of the flats having windows overlooking the church is a good one, and we generally favour this proposal. 3. Application No: 14/02262/FUL 54 Lansdown Crescent Lane Cheltenham Erection of 3no. 2/3 bed mews houses and 1no.1 bed studio following demolition of all existing buildings on site at Lansdown Crescent Lane and 24 Lansdown Place Lane Castellum Mr Bevis Stanley We regret the loss of small industrial units in this areas of which this is only one example. But we recognise the demand for such housing and have no objection to the design. 4. Application No: 14/02227/FUL 29 St Stephens Road Cheltenham Demolition of building and erection of block containing 7 apartments We think this is a good design which relates well to the context, though we do note that the footprint at the ground floor extends beyond the current footprint at the rear. 5. Application No: 14/02122/FUL 14/02257/FUL Proposed dwelling to rear of 12 Tivoli Road Mr & Mrs W J Jukes Mr Ralph Guilor We accept that there is a precedent for development here. But this is a mediocre proposal, and something better could be done. 6. Application No: 14/02296/FUL Land At Junction With Warden Hill Road Castanum Court Cheltenham Change of use of land to residential and construction of single storey dwelling. including landscaping of site and grass verges. Mr J Winson We welcome this proposal. It is an interesting and idiosyncratic proposal for an unusual site.
3 WEEKLY LIST 16 JANUARY Application No: 14/02228/LBC 4 North Place Cheltenham Change of Use of Public House with first floor managers flat and letting rooms to A3 Ground and Basement Floors and C4 HMO on upper floors. Extension to first floor and creation of second floor within new mansard roof. New staircase extension. Mr N Sinclair Mr Peter Marshall This is an attractive building, which deserves appropriate use. We are concerned that the number of washing and other facilities may be inadequate for the number of rooms, but it is difficult to be definitive without more knowledge of the intended use. 2. Application No: 14/02242/FUL 5 Vernon Place Cheltenham Provision of four one bedroom starter homes Mr Jamie Fergus Mr Mark Roberts We do not think the design here is appropriate for the context. More account needs to be taken of the proximity of the High Street and Sandford Park. 3. Application No: 14/02262/FUL 35 Selkirk Street Cheltenham Formation of three one bed apartments (formerly one two bed and one one bed apartments) at Selkirk Street Winnens Ltd Ian Johnstone Associates This is a satisfactory restoration of the former shopfront to make it appropriate for residential use, with the slight recess providing a memory of its former life as a shop. 4. Application No: 14/02271/FUL Cheltenham Gas Club Arle Avenue Chelte Demolition of vacant former Gas Club and erection of 14 apartments Castanum Ventures Ltd We would be sorry to see this quite attractive and shamefully neglected piece of vernacular architecture demolished. As a building on the banks of the Chelt it should be cherished. The design for the proposed block of flats to replace it is totally inappropriate for this site: it looks as if it has been borrowed from the prospectus for a 1980's apartment block in a cheap holiday resort.

Application No: 15/00058/FUL 9 Copt Elm Road Charlton Kings Cheltenham Erection of single storey dwelling Mr & Mrs Thornton Mr Simon Firkins We commend this proposal, which is discreet and appropriate for its location. 4. Application No: 15/00076/FUL 22 Dowty Road Cheltenham Demolition of existing single storey rear outshoot and replacement with new twostorey extension with additional bedroom and extended bathroom Ms Fiona Walker Mr Paul Rogers 5. Application No: 15/00092/FUL 21 Eldorado Crescent Cheltenham Part demolition of the building and erection of a part two storey part single storey extension. Ms Jennie Bore Mr Philip Taylor The style of these proposed railings seems Regency rather than Edwardian, which would be more appropriate in this location with its Edwardian-style houses. Fencing with brick piers might fit in better. 6. Application No: 15/00032/FUL 28 Painswick Road Cheltenham Demolition of existing single storey rear outshoot and replacement with new twostorey extension with additional bedroom and extended bathroom Mr Martyn Durrant Mr Rob Ellis We do not like the plastic windows for this location, and would hope that this development could provide the opportunity to install more appropriate fenestration throughout.
