2 2 P age 2013 Melbourne Cup Carnival The Melbourne Cup Carnival is an unparalleled four day celebration of racing, food and wine, fashion and glamour. For one week in spring, fabulous Flemington becomes the corporate, social and sporting epicentre of Australia. With the best thoroughbreds from Australia and increasingly, around the world taking centre stage throughout the world s most vibrant racing Carnival, it is a celebration not to be missed and never to be forgotten. AAMI Victoria Derby Day Considered one of the most prestigious days of racing in Australasia, featuring a card of nine Group races, four at the elite Group 1 level. The feature Group 1 AAMI Victoria Derby worth over A$1.5 million is Australia s premier staying classic for three-year-olds. The fashion stakes are equally high with the commencement of the Myer Fashions on the Field competition. This is the day for classic elegance, which sets the pace for the entire week. Traditionally, black and white has been the prominent colour scheme for women, while men often chose to wear a grey morning suit, top hat, peacock vest and pin-stripe pants. Emirates Melbourne Cup Day The $6.2 million Emirates Melbourne Cup is a truly spectacular event and the focal point of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. While most of Australia stops to watch or listen to the race, there s nothing like being there amongst the 100,000 plus crowd to experience this truly unique event. The excitement slowly builds to its 3pm fever pitch when everything at the track comes to a stop for 200 heart- pounding seconds. Crown Oaks Day Known as the ultimate style day of the Carnival, and commonly referred to as ladies day, women of all ages come together dressed in their most feminine ensemble. The winner of the national competition of Myer Fashions on the Field is announced on Crown Oaks Day, reinforcing its importance on the fashion calendar. The racing highlight is the Group 1 Crown Oaks, the A$1 million classic for three-year-old fillies over 2500m. Emirates Stakes Day The Melbourne Cup Carnival concludes with Emirates Stakes Day, featuring Victoria s premier 1600m event, the Group 1 Emirates Stakes. Emirates Stakes Day is the fastest growing race day for the four day Carnival with crowds topping 80,000 in recent years. It is also recognised as the Carnival s family day, with the focus on family fun and an abundance of free activities available for children. 4 4 P age Room Selection Options: With all our packages it s vital to establish which property + bedding will suit your needs. Here is a guideline to most options; Twin / Double: Hotel room or a one bedroom apartment. A double is a queen or king and a twin is 2 singles or 2 doubles. Triple: All hotels and one bedroom apartments have a king or a queen and a rollaway bed. Many apartments have a double sofa as the second bed. If you require 3 separate beds you need to take a two bedroom apartment triple rate. Quad: Use a 2 bedroom apartment and all have queen/queen or queen/2 singles accommodating 4 guests. On request we can ask for a rollaway bed at extra cost for the 4 th or 5 th guests but this can be limited. Trains operate every few minutes from all city CBD stations via Southern Cross Station and North Melbourne to directly behind the Members Grandstand and the Hill Stand for your convenience. Trams operate along Elizabeth Street and Flemington Road to Racecourse road and Epsom road with a short walk into the course.
