While many local Realtors entering the business look to go to work with the biggest, best-known firms, Key West Realtor Michael Spirnak has taken a different approach and has thrived. While I started out in larger firms in the 1990s, I love walking into our smaller, family-owned, operated and highly respected office everyday. I still work closely with my broker, who has been my mentor for years. I have always enjoyed bringing buyers and sellers together and that in the end, everyone is happy and that I ve helped create a dream that some folks never thought possible, Michael continued. I cannot imagine doing anything else. Michael was born in Los Angeles and raised in Northeast Ohio. He first visited Key West in 1990 and never left. By now, Michael has spent almost half his life here. Like many grateful transplants to the Keys, Michael has never looked back to his former life on the mainland. Michael s first job in town was working for a local reservation service that helped vacationers find homes to rent, along with various hotel rooms and guesthouses throughout the Keys. During that time he began working as a real estate assistant and after being licensed, went on to become a sales coordinator for a local real estate firm. He also worked for a local law firm, mostly handling real estate closings for five years. Currently, Michael has been involved in real estate in one way or the other since 1994, when he was originally licensed more than 12 of those years spent working for Richard Padron and Associates, Inc. I like the small town feel of Key West, and that everybody knows everyone, he said. I love our architecture and the beauty of all the island. After all these years, I m sometimes still surprised at many of the paradises created behind so many doors, gates and fences. Along with his passion for real estate, Michael s other interests include traveling, theater, architecture, interior design, cooking, gardening and entertaining family and friends, many of the latter being former clients with whom he developed a personal rapport. For eleven years, he owned a home in Old Town, but currently owns and lives at the Key West Golf Club, in the second of two homes which he and his husband, Mark Englehart, have renovated over the past nine years, along with their aptly named little dog, Tiny. Michael enjoys his days off on the island, but even in his down time, real estate remains his passion. I truly enjoy my career, said Michael, who handles transactions from Key West to as far as Big Pine. I ve been doing it a long time, but I still love seeing my buyers and sellers happy with their experience. I hope that I can continue with what I ve been doing all these years, making people s dreams come true.
