Dave Hegarty has been performing duct tests, energy consulting and Title 24 expertise since He officially founded DuctTesters, Inc. in Dave is licensed and certified by CalCERTS, CHEERS, BPI, LEED, HERS, HERS II, GreenPoint Rated, NGBS, and Thermographer. Dave s certifications include: 2016, 2013 & 2008 Residential and Non-Residential New Construction, Residential and Non-Residential Alterations, Whole House Rater, RCA 2, RCA 1, EnergyStar, EEM, undefined, and Photovoltaic (Solar Electric). Dave is a past recipient winner of being the GreenPoint Rater of the Year. Dave began his energy consulting career active in the RCP Program (Residential Contractors Program) and continued further by obtaining CHEERS (California Home Energy Efficiency Rating Services) Certifications. A few years later, he began participating and training with the CBPCA s (California Building Performance Contractors Association). Dave has trained and taught Title 24, HERS, and Energy Consulting classes for contractors, developers, municipalities, and other jurisdictions. His deep passion for learning about building compliance and energy efficiency shows when he guides Chapter Corporate Sponsors: others to understanding and meeting/ exceeding compliance. Prior to DuctTesters, he was manager of a HVAC contractor, including management of the sales and the installation crews. Dave worked with wholesale equipment suppliers and manufacturers. He has a strong passion for professional energy consulting, quality testing, and building compliance. He takes pride in helping others interested in understanding their contribution and how it fits into the larger picture, now and for the future. Dave is continuously active in several Building and Energy Associations and Organizations, staying up to date and knowledgeable about ongoing and future regulations, rebates, products, and technology. Dave also sits on the California Energy Commission s (CEC) Code Compliance Planning Committee for the 2019 energy code. The 2019 Code is the energy code standards to meet our 2020 Net Zero Energy goal for all new residential construction. Dave will also touch on what is coming for 2019 Energy Code Compliance. 4 2016 AIA/SFV and AIA/SFV Endowment FUND Scholarship Awards at Woodbury University, for the School of Architecture Students The Grand Critique Presentation was held on November 8th, 2016 at the Woodbury University Campus in the Ahmanson Main Space, School of Architecture Building. Interim Dean of the SoA, Ingalill Wahlroos-Ritter, Marc Neveu Ph.D., Chair of the Architecture Department will also be present during the festivities. The scholarship awards are presented to the three fifth year Grand Critique and eight additional winners selected based on Portfolios submitted by the grad and undergrad students. Short presentations by each of the three Grand Critique winners will be followed by a question and answer forum from the student and faculty audience. This year the AIA/SFV awarded five $500 scholarships and an additional three $500 scholarships reserved for grad students finishing their Woodbury University Architectural studies. Members of the American Institute of Architecture, San Fernando Valley Chapter (which extends from Mulholland Hwy. to the North Los Angeles County Line and the Antelope Valley), have a mission to serve our profession and our community. To further our mission, the AIA/SFV has committed to recognize and encourage architectural students in our community and at Woodbury University by funding scholarships through the school s Grand Critique Awards program. We view the education process integrating both the value of design and problem solving to encourage the students as young professionals, to be an integral part of that mission. We believe that architectural students will assume their roles as the future stewards of our built environments and will be called on as visionaries for sustainable environments accommodating social and cultural forces throughout the United States and the world. The AIA San Fernando Valley Chapter has established an independent endowment account expressly to fund these named scholarships which are being awarded consisting of $1,000 scholarships, We are accepting additional contributions from individuals, companies, design corporations and other sources to further the growth of the endowment program. 1. The Directed Fund was initiated within the California Community Foundation in 2001 with the balance transferred to the AIA/SFV FUND in The AIA/SFV Fund has now been transferred to Woodbury University bearing the title of AIA/SFV Endowment Fund, to be managed with other university investments but reserved for awards to the School of Architecture students. It is expected to remain a depository for donations received through the chapter office including specific endowment fund raising activities. 6 DESIGN THE COMPETITION: The competition involves the design of a neighborhood park in Los Angeles to be built by the city. It will include a playground, sports facilities and related buildings. This competition meets all new AXP guidelines as outlined by NCARB. It will include mandatory requirements which will gain participants 160 core hours. Optional electives can also be earned up to an additional 75 core hours. Everyone wins in this contest! Participants receive core hours and juries will be held to select the best submissions: Meet program requirements and add design creativity and sensitivity to win the following prizes. PRIZES: Interns Students 1 st Place: $1, st Place: $1, nd Place: $ nd Place: $1, $ rd Place: $ rd Place: $ WHO IS ELIGIBLE?: The competition is open to all NCARB/AXP participants. The project submissions can be from individuals or teams. Credit for IDP hours is available to all participants working with a mentor. Each participant will be responsible for self-reporting hours as detailed in the AXP Guidelines. A maximum of 235 hours are available. Intern and student submissions will be judged separately. Please attribute to AIA Chief Executive Officer Robert Ivy, FAIA. The AIA and its 89,000 members are committed to working with President-elect Trump to address the issues our country faces, particularly strengthening the nation s aging infrastructure. During the campaign, President-elect Trump called for committing at least $500 billion to infrastructure spending over five years. We stand ready to work with him and with the incoming 115 th Congress to ensure that investments in schools, hospitals and other public infrastructure continue to be a major priority. We also congratulate members of the new115 th Congress on their election.
