1 Call for Entries The AIA Cincinnati Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN) is pleased to announce the Call for Entries for the 2019 Cincinnati CRANawards. The CRANawards is the annual design awards program of the AIA Cincinnati's CRAN chapter. The purpose of the awards program is to celebrate the best professional residential design in the Cincinnati region. Winners of CRANawards represent the highest level of architectural design for the most intimate of architectural spaces. Eligibility Projects must be completed by a registered architect. Entries are open to both AIA and non-aia members. The submitting firm must have a local office in the Cincinnati region. Projects must be completed after January 1, Projects may not be previous Cincinnati CORAward or CRANaward winners, but may be previous non-winning submissions. If the submitting architect is not the sole author of the submitted work, all substantial participants must be given credit.

Projects will be granted awards based on merit at the discretion of the Jury. The 2019 project categories are: New Custom Home New client-driven residence. New Market Home New market-driven residence. Architectural Addition Residential addition to an existing structure. Architectural Interior An interior space within a multi-family or single family residence. Multiple Unit Housing Multiple attached housing units and mixed-use residential projects Architectural Detail A custom designed element, ornament, application, fixture or furnishing associate with residential design Exterior Environment Exterior feature associated with residential projects (patio, pergola, outdoor kitchen, pool structure, landscape design)

Their work has been published nationally and internationally, and the firm was recognized as one of the top 50 residential firms by Residential Architect Magazine, receiving an RA Leadership Award in The firm's work is the subject of a book entitled Transforming the Traditional: The work of Cohen & Hacker Architects published in Stuart Cohen holds a Bachelor s and Master s degree in architecture, and studied under Colin Rowe. Before returning home to Chicago in 1973, to open his own architectural practice and to teach, he worked in New York City for Richard Meier and Associates and for Phillip Johnson and John Burgee. As an educator, Cohen was a faculty member at the University of Illinois, Chicago from 1973 to 2002 and is currently a full professor of architecture emeritus. In 1985 Cohen was elected to Fellowship in the American Institute of Architects in recognition of his contributions in the areas of design and education. Julie Hacker, FAIA and Stuart Cohen, FAIA Jury Co-Chairs Julie Hacker holds a Bachelor s of Arts from Wesleyan University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a major in Psychology and a minor in Dance. She then studied at the Merce Cunningham Studio in NYC while choreographing her own work. She returned to Chicago, her hometown, and received her Master s degree in Architecture in 1985 from the University of Illinois at Chicago where she received the Chicago Women in Architecture Award. She lectures and serves on architectural juries nationally, mentors young architects, and is now a Preservation Commissioner for the City of Evanston, Illinois. In 2011, she was made a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in recognition of her contributions in the field of design.
