LIKES Separate washer/dryer area Having and knowing neighbours A safe and big yard Having my own room Access to a close safe common outside space (like a park or school yard) Having a place to independently visit as a kid (like neighbours or family close by) 2 sinks in the kitchen a bathtub 2 bathrooms a split bath/shower and sink areas able to walk to school close library a walkable distance from most things safe outside area a garden. DISLIKES Living above people who don t have kids The neighbours kids Chain or wire fences Sharing my bedroom Being told not to run inside (especially because of noise) Lack of storage space Too many stairs No kitchen space High maintenance costs Small size of apartment Little hot water supply Cold and musty basement Mould Insulation problems and always being cold. No backyard 2. Our dreams and requirements for the INSIDE COMMON spaces. A common meeting room A kids playroom with possible daycare space A common kitchen big enough to have many participating cooks. Safe windows in the halls and common areas. Safe lighting in the halls and common areas for security. Mailbox slots directly on each apartment door. Big storage area. Parking garage with communal vans. Cheap washer/dryer possibilities. A tight security system with two locked doors. Storage area for strollers at the entrance. An adult-only space. 172

Our dreams and requirements for the INSIDE APARTMENT spaces. Large and wide balconies with sliding doors. Safe balconies. French windows, to make it look fancy. Maybe French doors. Double paned windows for heat insulation. Washer / dryer outlets in the apartments for those who want them. Dishwasher space for those who want them. Lots of cupboards and storage space. Big windows. Good sized bedrooms with closets. 3 was the suggested number. Big kitchen: lots of counter space and table space. Separate dining room space. Big bathtubs with big bathrooms. Cupboards under the bathroom sink. Wood floors. Child-safe heaters (i.e. behind a screen to prevent burns). Double sinks in the kitchen. A pantry. Alarm system. Central air. Air conditioning and air heating. Good ventilation. In-wall oven, dishwasher, and counter-top stove. Master bedroom not right beside the other bedroom(s). Bedrooms not beside the living room. 3. Our dreams and requirements for the OUTSIDE spaces. A big fenced area. A wooden fence. Space for animals. A kid s park with jungle gym and slide. Trees and grass. A wading pool / fountain. Community garden with vegetables and flowers. Parking. A courtyard area with buildings on-looking. A rooftop garden or terrace. An adult-only rooftop space. 173
