2 BIZ ZWEI Vorgartenstraße 206 B-C The office building BIZ ZWEI designed by architect Martin Kohlbauer continues the significant spatial figure of the office building PLUS ZWEI The dialogue of the soft shores of the lake with the hard, but full-scale building edges, is extended to the new building site where the height differentiation of the building is supported accordingly For the visual relationship between the main open space and the sea, the ground floor area of BIZ ZWEI has been accordingly designed in transparent materials Due to the intelligently planned its spatial structure, BIZ ZWEI sets new standards in terms of work quality Its clean lines create a lot of space for efficient usable office space photo: Agron Deralla Project is not public! 3 Hoch Zwei Trabrennstraße 6 Hoch Zwei is the name of office tower in the second district of Vienna The 80-meter tall building was completed in 2008 Since 2009, oil and gas group OMV uses the skyscraper as corporate headquarters and the main tenant Floor area/size m² Developer Henke Schreieck Architekten IC Projektentwicklung 3

4 Otto Wagner Pavilion Karlsplatz Vienna Karlsplatz Stadtbahn Station is a former station of the Viennese Stadtbahn The buildings above ground on Karlsplatz are a well-known example of Jugendstil architecture These buildings were included in The Vienna Secession, as they followed many of the artistic styles of that movement They were designed by Otto Wagner, adviser to the Transport Commission in Vienna,and Joseph Maria Olbrich and are, unlike the other Stadtbahn stations, made of a steel framework with marble slabs mounted on the exterior 1899 Main designer, Otto Wagner Joseph Maria Olbrich 4

5 Departmental Building Welthandelsplatz 1 No less striking, though less colorful, the Departmental building by Estudio Carme Pinós plays with rigid geometries Windows and casements in gray metal flow in a zig-zag pattern over white walls These patterned volumes alternate with solid gray orthogonal sections, all joined by a curved central form Stepped and circular cut-out shapes are used throughout the interior, demonstrating some of Pinós? trademark attention to quirky details To help maintain internal temperatures, window shutters open and close automatically according to solar conditions 2013 Estudio Carme Pinós 5

6 Teaching Center Welthandelsplatz 4 The new academic space, located at the north-east of the new Campus of the Vienna University of Economics and Business is as a venue for multiple networking More than a mere building, the Teaching Center is a learning platform that promotes spontaneous communication while also making it possible to undertake the classes and activities that occur within This quest for spontaneous exchange has different levels and scales sharing one common denominator: the path is the goal According to the architect, a contemporary Teaching Center should encourage curiosity in the everyday routine of those who teach as well as those who learn, becoming a place where moving about and getting on stage does not lead to experiencing spatial boundaries by instead giving free reign to the imagination 2013 Supplier BUSarchitektur GIRA 6

7 WU Executive Academy Welthandelsplatz 1 The distinctive black and silver Executive Academy building for researchers and mature students anchors the western end of the campus promenade Designed by Madrid-based NOMAD, the building appears as an irregular stack of blocks The facade is covered in glass and aluminium, materials used to create degrees of transparency and reflection Window patterns appear to follow the lines of a maze, or a circuit board, but were calculated according to an algorithm program Windows all have thermal protection and light-filtering systems Inside, soaring window sections and pure concrete contrast with mirrored panels so that some rooms have a stark, cathedral-like atmosphere The seven floors offer 18,000 sq m (194,000 sq ft) of teaching and learning spaces

9 Plus Zwei Vorgartenstraße For Plus Zwei, Martin Kohlbauer focused on transparent architecture and eye-catching shapes In total, OMV has roughly 41,000 m² of state-of-the-art office space at its disposal The grounds of the Viertel Zwei project are located directly along the new section of the U2 metro line, between Vorgartenstraße and the Krieau racing track, and are right next to the Messe Wien convention centre The city centre is just a few metro stations away, and several main motorways are in the direct vicinity 2009 Developer Martin Kohlbauer Architekt IC Projektentwicklung 9

10 photo: Lucian Ilica Hundertwasserhaus Kegelgasse Vienna The Hundertwasserhaus is an apartment complex in Vienna,, designed by n artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser It was built between 1983 and 1986 by architects Joseph Krawina and Peter Pelikan Hundertwasser was not paid, stating that it was worth it, to prevent something ugly from being erected The house features a very organic design, with its uneven floors and plentiful flora Its roof is covered in grass and trees are grown from within, their limbs extending from the windows There are 52 apartments, four offices, 16 private terraces and three communal terraces, and a total of 250 trees and bushes There are also artificial trees; the columns that can be seen reminded Hundertwasser of trees The windows and mosaic tiles are laid out not in a grid, but in a more playful organic way, with crooked angles Project is not public! 11 photo: Markus Kaiser photo: Markus Kaiser Comida Welthandelsplatz 1 The cafeteria and the restaurant Comida y Pan and Comida y Luz are set in the "Executive Building", which was designed by the Spanish architects NOMAD As part of the selection procedure we were commissioned by the Comida-Crew to develop and create a project idea When this happened, the architecture of the building was already completed and the rooms for the cafeteria and the restaurant were appointed Because of that the first thing we did was to focus on the space dedication again So the flat roof on the 6th floor became a smoking terrace and the WC facilities planned on the Ground Floor became a private room Previous door frames were used as bottle racks, which separate the private booth space from the rest of the cafeteria and still maintain a connection by being mostly transparent It was also important to place user-specific logistics such as the kitchen and the bar as well as refrigerators and storerooms photo: Markus Kaiser Client Soehne & Partner Architekten Comida Gmbh SoehneParnter U2 11

13 Library and Learning Centre Welthandelsplatz 2 The new Library and Learning Centre of the University of Economics in Vienna rises as a polygonal block from the heart of the new University campus The interior of the LLC is informed by the external landscape of the masterplan which maps out the different levels The straight lines of the building's exterior separate as they move inward, becoming curvilinear and fluid to generate a free-formed interior canyon that serves as the principal public plaza of the centre, as well as generating corridors and bridges ensuring smooth transitions between different levels Floor area/size m² Zaha Hadid s Building opening hours when classes are in session: Mon Fri 7:00am 10:00pm; Sat 7:00am 6:00pm These opening hours also apply during the semester break The Library & Learning Center (LC) is located between the 2 U2 subway stations Messe-Prater and Krieau, roughly the same distance from each of these 2 stations (5 10 min) The underground parking garage is located under the main boulevard, the entrance is on Trabrennstrasse Cycling is prohibited on campus grounds Appr 1,000 bicycle parking spaces are located along the bike path circling around the campus Citybike sharing stations are located at the south entrance of Campus and at the subway 13

14 Departments Of Law And Central Administration Welthandelsplatz 1 This 200 meter long pair of buildings snaking west to east in a series of brightly coloured streaks cheer up the often grey skies of Vienna's Prater district They fold out to form a series of roof decks, they zig in and out to create "sunshine corners" and are occasionally eaten out to create balconies for smokers or others who are needing a break There are routes under that run from the University courtyard to the Prater Park on the south - diving through the red base The building is designed around Cook and Robotham's strongly held belief (based on many years as University teachers) that a lively and successful college building should have generous and engaging internal spaces that are not just seminar rooms or offices, but places to "hang out" and possibly encourage you to stay around after class: so these are carved out of the interior and slither around in a similar way to the building as a whole 2013 CRAB Studio 14

15 Hotel Zwei Trabrennstraße 4 The sweeping form of the 9 storey high building complements that of the planned office high rise, situated directly opposite and marks the entry to the new city quarter "Viertel 2" The building is divided into two zones: A transparent ground floor and the 8 storeys of the hotelrooms The floor-to-ceiling glazing of the buildings basis provides smooth transitions between interior and exterior demonstrating the hotels open and communicative architecture 2008 Developer Zecher & Zecher IC Projektentwicklung 15
