Born in China, he studied engineering at St. John s University in Shanghai, China before receiving his undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture from the University of Michigan (B.S. 1938; M.S. 1939). He came to Louisiana in the 1940s, working as a draftsman for Baton Rouge architect A. Hays Town. He then worked for New Orleans architect William R. Burk as an architect and engineer. 2 established his own practice in the early 1950s. Of note are the supermarkets he designed for John Schwegmann.
