1 April 2017 WOMAN S FORUM MIRROR W O M A N S F O R U M P R E S I D E N T C A T H Y A U N E Hello, Ladies. I cannot believe that this year is almost over. It has passed so quickly. As we ramp up to the end of this year and to the beginning of the next, please remember that your department can join the Arts Council for $50. That will give you one meeting per month at the Kemp at the Forum or The Kemp Center during the day for no additional charges. That s better than a setup fee each time. Also, I would like to encourage people to step up to those leadership positions in your departments. Often it is hard to fill those. We are all so busy, but most of us can find time. Historically, we were organized in 1925 and incorporated in We are 92 years old. Most of the organizations from the 20s have fallen apart and no longer exist. That means we have stamina and are able to change with the times. I would love to see us last for a good many more years. Kudos to our Senior Juniors who just completed their 13 th Red River Wine and Beer Festival. This is a well-run event. The community enjoys it. I personally love working it. Every year it seems to be better and run smoother. Thanks ladies for all your hard work. 2 A special thanks to all my board members. You are a sweet group of ladies that make my job easy. I have enjoyed getting to know the officers from our different departments. Our special committees have kept you informed. Thanks to Cal Edgemon for willingly taking on the presidency next year, to Diane Dockery for keeping our minutes, and to Cheryl Opie for handling our finances. On a light note, there is a combined social for Senior Junior and Woman s Forum coming up on April 28 th. (See the flyer attached to the ) Hope you will consider coming. We will vote on the Woman s Forum slate of officers for next year at this event. Cathy Aune A L P H A F O R U M C H R I S T I E B R O W N I N G The Alpha Girls are springing into spring with lots of community service!! This month the girls are all hands in, hearts for giving, and a little sweat on the brow!! Our first big project of April is to help the food bank collect food and organize it for distribution. The last project of the month is the game changer, the Alpha Girls will be serving a meal at the Faith Mission with warm hearts and the spirit for helping others in need. After April we will be wrapping up the school year, and preparing to start next year with a big bang!! J U N I O R F O R U M - L A U R A B A R N E T T The Junior Forum has certainly been busy the past few months. Our 70 s themed Style Show was a Huge Success and so much fun! In March, our members Painted with Artist Soozie, and our 2017 Debutantes had their group photos taken. Our Annual Mother-Daughter Luncheon was full of such bittersweet moments we will all cherish forever. Now, spring is in the air, which means Debutante Presentation is just around the bend! Please join us as we present 26 beautiful Ladies at the Eighty-Ninth Annual Junior Forum Debutante Presentation Saturday, May 6 th 2:00 pm & 7:00 pm at The Kemp at The Forum. Contact J.F. Sponsor, Laura Barnett for tickets

B R I D G E C L U B - G E O R G E A N N B L A N K E N B E C L E R The Woman's Forum Bridge Club meets the first Thursday of each month (September - May). At the March meeting we discussed meeting at the Country Club for April and May. We will meet at 5:15 for drinks and dinner and play bridge from 6:30 to 9:30. Most of us feel that bringing refreshments, setting up, and vacuuming has gotten to be too much for us. A change to the Country Club would allow all of us to enjoy an evening of fellowship and bridge. There were 20 members present at the February meeting. Hosts were Johnelle and Barry Donnell. Winners were: 1st - Marie Donnell and Susan Jardine, 2nd - Carl and Lana Winfrey, 3rd - Earlene Reaves and Diane Pelsue. There were 12 members present at the March meeting. Hosts were Don and Charlotte Johnston and Lois Fullerton and Marilyn Spitsnaugle. Winners were: 1st - Carl and Lana Winfrey, 2nd - Bunny Kennedy and Barbara Baird, 3rd - Georgeann Blankenbecler and Cherry Stewart. Our next meeting will be April 6, 2017, at the Country Club. Please call Georgeann Blankenbecler, to make a reservation to play with us.
4 C U L T U R E C L U B - D E B I F A R R E L L The Culture Club attended its first event on April 1 st. Several members attended the dinner theater at Backdoor Theater to see the comedy Moon over Buffalo. We enjoyed it greatly. Our next event will be Saturday, June 3 rd. (See the flyer attached to the ) We will caravan to the Kimball Art Museum to view A modern Vision: European Masterworks from the Phillips Collection and then enjoy lunch in the Fort Worth area. A Modern Vision presents a selection of the most iconic European paintings and sculptures from The Phillips Collection, America's first museum of modern art. Ranging from the early 19th century through the mid-20th century, the incomparable collection of "modern art and its sources," as its founder, Duncan Phillips, characterized it, includes distinctive Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and Expressionist masterworks. If you would like to join our department and attend with us please contact Debi Farrell at or debifarrell@sbcglobal.net. If you are already a member you may RSVP with Joyce Capron at or joyce.capron@alumni.mwsu.edu. G A R D E N C L U B G A I L W H I T E & E L I S A B E T H W E N G E R The Garden Club had two wonderful programs within the last two months. On February 23 rd Dr. David Spencer talked with our group about his and Carrie s Adventures in Pecan Ranching. He has wonderful photographs and a great sense of humor. Dr. Spencer s dream all began with his desire to have a pecan pie make with pecans from his own orchard. So now he can after putting in a lot of work, with help from the Nobel Foundation on proper pruning instruction. His orchard located near Nacona has survived fire, flooding and even feral hogs. On March 23 rd Blair Ramon, with Gilbert Creek Gardens, told us about her flower garden farm in Burkburnett. Blair was a delightful speaker and is part of the Slow Flower Movement. She and other US flower growers are trying to use less of a carbon footprint by growing flowers locally instead of having the shipped from overseas. She is practicing organic methods and waters with drip irrigation. She and her husband have planted flowers on over an acre of her grandfather s land and is hoping to sell them to local florists. Our next meeting is April 13 th. Town and Country will hear a talk from Anne Dohrer, a master gardener, on companion planting. It will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Gail White s home. On April 27 th Beth Trammell, a master gardener, will present a program on Drought Tolerant Plants. We will meet for lunch at the Wichita Falls Country Club at noon. If you are interested in attending, please give Elisabeth Wenger or Gail White a call. Our department is thinking of stopping our monthly Garden Club meetings and just have the two subsidiary clubs, Town and Country and Pat Ferguson. We will discuss this further at our last meeting of the year.
5 G O U R M E T C L U B M A R G E C O L L I N S & E L I S A B E T H W E N G E R The Gourmet Club will be cooking together in the homes of Carrie Spencer and Pam Ayers on April 11 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This year's menu is "Cooking with Herbs". Each dish from appetizer to dessert will include herbs. Prospective members are invited to join in the fun. Call Elisabeth Wenger ( ) or Marge Collins ( ) for more details P U B L I C I T Y - L O I S A N N E N E A L If you would like spotlight your club or an event, I would be glad to help you submit a picture to the Times Record News. There are some specific guidelines for submission.
