1 Rotary Club of Los Gatos Cat Tale District 5170 Club #487 Chartered 1924 Volume #28 Issue #50 December 13, 2016 ANNUAL LOS GATOS HIGH SCHOOL CHORAL CONCERT Maricel Riley has been teaching vocal and choral music for 22 years. She earned her Bachelor in Education in Music, P.E., and Health, graduating cum laude in 1991 from the University of San Agustin, Philippines. In 1993, Mrs. Riley was chosen as a youth diplomat and traveled around Southeast Asia and Japan to promote friendship and mutual understanding among nations, serving as music director of the delegation. Maricel went on to earn a Doctor of Education degree from the University of LaSalle, Philippines, and was awarded the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation for her experimental study entitled The Effects of the Gestalt-Centered Approach in the Learning of Students in Music. She served as a professor for eleven years in the College of Education in the same university and in 1998 received its Thomas Award for outstanding contributions as an educator. Mrs. Riley joined the Los Gatos Union School District as a music teacher in 2006, teaching general and vocal music in grades K-5 and serving as Choir Director of R. J. Fisher Middle School for seven years. Her audition choirs have received no less than Unanimous Superior ratings at CMEA festivals and Superior ratings at Music in the Parks festivals. In her current role as Choral Director of Los Gatos High School, Mrs. Riley teaches Choir, Orchestra, and AP Music Theory. She is married to James Riley and has a preschooler, Gabriel. Voting to approve the incoming officers, directors and chairs will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the regularly scheduled meeting.
