Summer Street Area(s) FormNo. I [269 I (Mr*. 2J^ ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: The residence at 92 Summer Street was built c as a Greek Revival cottage. This 3x4 bay, wood frame, 1-1/2 story building sits on a granite block foundation. The building is clad with wood clapboards. The side gable roof is covered with asphalt shingles. A brick chimney is located in the center of the ridge. The entrance is off-center and contains a 6 panel wood door flanked by half sidelights and pilasters with a full entablature. The cornerboards are thin. A bay window is located adjacent to the entrance and on the south elevation. A rear ell has contemporary doors and windows. A large 3x2 bay, 2 story barn is toward the rear of the property. The center bay contains a large center door. HISTORICAL NARRATIVE: The house was occupied by Christopher P. Drew by 1876 and through the early 20th century. Christopher Prince Drew and Thomas Bailey started the C. Drew & Co. Auger Works on Maple Street in 1837 on Stony Brook. It appears that it was popular to build a residence on Summer Street and have your place of business to the east, on Maple Street or Landing Road. BIBLIOGRAPHY: Melville, Doris Johnson.
