Description Inventory No Condition excellent good fair deteriorated ruins altered Prepare both a one paragraph summary and a comprehensive description of the resource and its various elements as it exists today. The John O. Etchison House is located on Long Corner Road near Damascus Road in an area once known as Bootjack. The structure is a five bay side gable form with a Gothic Revival style center gabled wall dormer. A hipped roof porch extends across the width of the front (south) façade. Interior end chimneys mark each gable on the standing seam metal roof. Cornice returns embellish both gable ends. The house has been altered with artificial siding and replacement windows. A one story shed roof extension was appended to the rear façade. Another one story section on the east side may be an enclosure of a wraparound porch.

John Osborne Etchison ( ) is believed to be the grandson of Ephraim Etchison, born 1774, in upper Montgomery County when it was still part of Frederick County. John O. Etchison was the son of James Madison Etchison and Caroline Etchison. He married Mary Virginia Penn in In 1880, John, his wife Mary, and one child were living with his father Madison Etchison. Madison s property is shown on the 1878 Hopkins Atlas as being east on Long Corner Road from the subject property. 2 Between 1881 and 1882, John O. Etchison assembled 73.5 acres of land. 3 He likely built the house about that time. By 1900, John and Mary had 11 children, six of whom were still living at home. John O.
