The small scale of the structure, its air of simplicity and its rusticated quality seem appropriate.for a small town parish church, The massing consists of a transept, nave, small entrance vestibule and tower. In an unusual arrangement, the short, blocky tower rises on the east elevation of the church in the angle of the joining of the transept. to the wing,.the nave is covered with a steep gable roof with the traditional placement 05 the entrance in the gable end. The ground at. the entrance is raised in a berm so that the visitor walks up a short flight of stairs to the double leaf solid door which is framed by a stone segmental arch with similar segmental arch paxapet with stone coping above. Stone crosses appear at the peak of the entrance parapet and above at the gable apex. Centered in the gable end wall above the entrance is a Inrge,blunt,pointedarch,stainadglass window. Statement of Siqnificance St. Paul's Parish Church in the historic N.ostheast Arkansas city of Batesville was designed by Charles L. Constructed of rockfaced native lime stone, the church is indicative of.t\e variety of structures in the area of stoneconscruetion. The simplicity of design adds to St. Paulms Church's lanzmarh status in its location. Small in scale, the massing of the church consists of a transept, nave, small entrance vestibule and tower.
