5 Burroughs, New Center This loft is located within The Graphic Arts Building in the New Amsterdam Historic District. Built in 1926 by Murphy and Burns, the building served as residence for a number of graphic art professionals, including photographers, commercial engravers, and art studios. Jonna Construction purchased the property and has redeveloped the building into 40 lofts which are popular with architecture buffs and students. According to Jonna, New Center is an incredible up-and-coming area. We are really looking forward to business coming in. The people have already started. 5

6 Washington Blvd, Book Cadillac This condo is located in the Westin Book Cadillac that opened in This particular unit has been designed with a respect for the Italian design of the hotel, but it was given a modern twist. Tom Verwest Interiors of Royal Oak decorated the unit. Tom Verwest Interiors specializes in converting classic and vintage spaces into modern locations. Many famous Detroit architects contributed to the furniture designs. These architects include Eero Saarinen, Harry Bertoia, and Mies van de Rohe. Local photographer Lyn Curtiss and painter Darcel Deneau completed all of the artwork. This condo highlights gorgeous views of the city, including Campus Martius. In 1957, Wayne State University converted the building into the mortuary science program for the university. In 2004, the building sold for redevelopment into the 10 Springfield Loft Condominiums. 12 Woodmont, Grandmont One of the first custome homes in the newly developed Grandmont subdivision, this English Tudor was built in 1925 in the St. Mary s of Redford Parish. The home was purchase by the Mulherm family in the early 1930 s. They remined the sole occupants until the early 1970 s. On Easter Sunday of 1975, Richard Berlin moved in and began a 38-year renovation and modernization to both update and keep the home true to its orginal architectural feel. The 4 bedroom home is built conveniently with all room radiating from the centrail staircase and hallway. It features hardwood floors and wet plastered walls with decorative moldings. The home is 3600 sq. ft. and includes a natural fireplace in the living room and a gas fireplace in the master bedroom. A large wrap around deck and second floor sitting porch have been added to enjoy the ever-growing gardens. The gardens include a variety of perennials and annuals, vegetable garden, fruits, flowering trees and bushes, and surprising little creative additions. 12

13 Lincoln Street, Woodbridge Built on the former farm of William Woodbridge, territorial governor of Michigan in , the Woodbridge area is a rare survivor of the Victorian era. The intact neighborhood boasts historic homes with original architecture and was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, assuming the name of Woodbridge Neighborhood Historic District. This beautiful home is roughly 100 years old and has been fully restored. 13

14 E. Ferry Street, Midtown This home was built in 1915 and is currently being used as a local Moishe House, one of only 37 in the world. The Motor City Moishe House is a group of six young Jewish adults living together to create a communal hub in the city with the goal of retaining and attracting young adults back to Detroit. Located in the East Ferry Street historic district of midtown, this home has a Queen Anne architectural style and is only a few blocks from the beautiful Inn on Ferry Street. 14

15 Avery, Woodbridge This arts and crafts home was built in Since 1909, the home has only been purchased by 5 separate owners. The home was remodeled back to reflect it s historical roots. The front porch was rebuilt in summer, Also, a color specialist helped choose paint colors that were traditional choices back in This is a very family-friendly area! Interesting fact- While working in the yard to expand the kitchen, workers found prohibition-era bottles. 15

16 Dwight, Berry Subdivision Our home, a Georgian Colonial on the Detroit River, was built in 1920 as part of a five-home compound for Joseph Weber and his family. The other four homes were occupied by the Webers adult children. Originally, the homes had a common heating plant, a shared 20-car underground garage, a boat house, and a children s play house that was a scale replica of one of the homes. All five of the homes are currently occupied and well-maintained, and one home is the Detroit s official mayoral residence. 16

17 Seminole, Indian Village This historic home was built in 1908 with wood construction on a brick foundation. Each room in this renovated home has artwork created by local Detroit and Michigan artists. 17

18 Chicago Boulevard, Boston Edison The house is an interesting example of the American vernacular style. It is a two story, symmetrical, hipped roof house with parallel front gables. The centrally placed door with cast stone surround, extensive masonry detailing, and the tile roof add to the substantial presence of the facade. In the entrance hall is the first of six pairs of beveled glass doors that segregate the major first floor rooms. Ornate plaster beams decorate the living room ceiling. A wall of built-in leaded glass bookcases and windows leads to the solarium with its uniquely canopied ceiling. The sink and counters are Corian and a commercial range and central chopping block help make the kitchen as functional as it is attractive. The second floor is replete with a bedroom suite, sitting room, guest bedroom, and master bedroom suite including his and her vanities. The master bathroom and custom built double shower/steam room of green tile with decorative Greek-style masks. The first and second floors are open for viewing. 18

Layfayette, Fort Shelby (A) The Fort Shelby Hotel took its place in history in Renowned Detroit architect, Albert Kahn, was engaged to design and build the hotel s 22-story expansion in In classic Beaux-Arts style, the tower addition features cut stone, face brick and terra cotta crowns. 23 Witherell, Broderick Tower The David Broderick Tower was designed in 1926 by Louis Kampber, architect, and his son Paul L. Kamper. This was not the first building on the site. Three hotels, a Turkish bath and several small office buildings had existed on the site. In 1896, the Gladwin Building, a six-story office biulding, was there until it was demolised for the Eaton Tower in At 34-stories tall, it was the second tallest building in Detroit when it opened in The Broderick Tower was first class office space for doctors and dentists in private practices. Also, for several decades, radio station WJLB was located on the 31st floor. 23
