Additional opportunities have become available at some of New York City s prestigious design firms. Please read the material below and if interested follow all instructions given. 2 February 1, 2012 Dear Educator: The ACE Mentor Program is a free after-school program for high school students who are interested in careers in architecture, construction management, and/or engineering. It is also a wonderful opportunity for students who are uncertain about their future or for those who have yet to be introduced to the world of design and construction to explore new possibilities. The benefits to all include career advice, high school-to-college guidance, skill enhancement, and scholarships for college bound seniors. Interested students should be highly motivated and able to attend team meetings located at mentoring firm offices throughout New York City. Meetings are typically held every two weeks for two hours starting at 4 or 4:30pm beginning in October however we have an accelerated team beginning February 6, 2012 at the office of Ted Moudis Associates at 79 Madison Avenue. The team will meet most Mondays through May We also have a team that already started which meets on Thursdays at KPF Architects on 42 nd Street and they are willing to accept new students. We have more room on the Monday team and students must send an to Annika@acementorny.org with their team selection. Please distribute the attached program fact sheet to students and let us know if there are other ways to share information about ACE at your school. Representatives from the program would be happy to meet with parent associations, student organizations and/or school faculty. We also welcome invitations to career fairs and student activity events. 3 Become an ACE Student! What is ACE? ACE is a free after-school program for high school students who may want to learn about careers in Architecture, Construction, and/or Engineering. The program begins in October but late applications will be considered. Students are mentored by successful architects, construction managers and engineers who meet as a team at mentors offices twice a month during the school year for two hours starting at 4/4:30PM. Teams are organized like a real life project design team and include a developer/owner, an architectural firm, a construction management company, and engineering firms. What will I do in ACE? You will learn what it is like to work in the design and construction industry and develop a design project tailored to your interests. Sessions will include hands-on activities, use of design software, office tours and field trips to construction/project sites. You will also build a model and present the design project with your teammates at the end of the year. What are the benefits? Go to the ACE website at Scroll down to the bottom or top of the webpage and click on Student. 2. Select NEW Student or a Returning ACE student and complete general information form to become an ACE member. Click continue and complete the main application form. 3.
